Invalid shipping cost-say what?

I'm trying to set my shipping costs. It worked before and now I can't get it to work. I enter my first item shipping fee and then I am trying to set additional items at 50 cents each and I am getting a message that says it is an invalid amount. It should work. I've done it before.
Now what?

You have to do it as 0.50 I kept getting the same thing and it was making me crazy.
That is what I have always hated about computers! They just tell you that your wrong but don't tell you how to fix it. Hope it helps.
