Can someone please tell me how we get points towards our karma rating? Just curious....

By the number of posts you make here in the community.
I thought that was it, but it said I had 2 out of 8 points. I've posted more than 2, or even 8, times.
I get it now. 
So...basically, the dumber I am and the more questions I have to ask, the higher my karma.
