I have tried to find the answer to my query on this forum without success (I'm probably not looking in the right place)so if somebody has already posed this question - I apologise. First of all let me say that I'm a newbie. I have posted several items for auction on ebay. The first couple of times I did the listing through ebay itself (not scheduled) and then through Auctiva (scheduled). Why oh why when I do a keyword search for my item (which results in 639 items ranged on 13 pages) which has 3d 6h 45m to go till auction end, does my item not appear until you scroll all the way down to page 11, whereas other listings which may have longer to their end time (say 3d 6h 55m) appear on page 7! I always thought that what you got on a keyword search was items finishing soonest first, and then everything else followed from that, but I now see that you have listings from 1m to 10 days' duration on the first few pages and then whole thing starts again. In a nutshell, what do I have to do to get my listing in the first 10 day batch - does this make sense? - I hope so, because I really feel I'm being stupid and missing something really obvious! Any help/explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What you're seeing is Ebay's (unbelievably useless) Best Match search results...on the right of the page you see with listings, there's a little box that says Sort By..click the dropdown andd you can choose Time Ending Soonest, Newly Listed, Highest or Lowest Price, etc. If you use the Customize link next to it you can set it as a default for yourself. Unfortunately, when your potential buyers search, they are also seeing Best Match (unless they know how to change it).
IMO this is one of the dumbest ideas Ebay has ever come up with Smile
Thanks for that. I did have an inkling that the "sort by" box might hold the answer. As you rightly say, what a ridiculous set up - us small sellers don't stand a chance of our listings ever being spotted when they appear so far down the list, because as the default is "Best Match" unless you change it manually/customize it yourself, what you actually get are the high volume sellers listings in that first 10-day batch (sellers with sales in excess of 100+) so it's a "no win" situation for us "small fry" - rant over! Thanks again for helping me out. Mrs Grumps getting grumpier by the second!
