According to Jeanne, by way of Danno, to relist thru Ebay so you can get your relist credit, the instructions say in part: You need to be careful to replace all but the Scrolling Gallery code, which is marked with ASW tags at beginning and end.

I can't find that code in my item description. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Hi Linda,

I assume you are trying to Relist and replace the Description section with new HTML code to make updates, e.g. change to different Auctiva template. In doing a replacement of the code, you'd want to retain the Scrolling Gallery code, which is what the "be careful to replace all but..." was intended to mean.

If you can actually see the Scrolling Gallery in the item for relist, the tags should be there. You need to switch the Relist editor at eBay to HTML mode to find the code and Tags.

If that doesn't help, post back the listing number of the Closed listing you are trying to Relist. Note, if your old listing doesn't have the Scrolling Gallery, you actually need to add it (another copy and paste of HTML code from the Auctiva Store tab page).

OK, I found it. (It wasn't easy by the way!)
Anyway, now I've got the text changed and I want to delete some of the pics and add others.

I understand I have to do that in Auctiva, but if I do it in Saved Listings rather than Closed Listings (which I'm under the impression is the only way to do it), will the relist revert to the old pics or will it pick up the new ones?

Linda,

What you do with a Saved Listing doesn't make a direct change to an Active or Closed listing.

The way to do it using Auctiva, is to create or update a Saved Listing to get the Description section including pictures and layout correct, and then Copy and Paste the HTML code (feature on Saved Listings page) to eBay's Revise listing editor in HTML code.

I hope that answer makes sense. I know the procedure is somewhat complicated and ackward, so please don't hesitate to ask questions. In Danno's Book, smart people ask questions and there are no dumb questions. Wink

Thanks Danno.
Here's where I think I'm getting confused. I want to change the Item description in my relist. When I go into Auctiva to get the text to enter into Ebay's relist, the only html I can see is that which is under Item Description.

When I go to Ebay Relist, the html I see has everything in it including the template code etc.

Now, if I follow the instructions I referred to in my first post and delete everything except the scrolling gallery, replace it with my revised text copied from Auctiva, then I've just deleted the all the other stuff too.

I tried just deleting only the item description, but not being very html savvy I had a really hard time finding the beginning and end of just those 2 things. I didn't have a clue if it would turn out right or not. Held my breath, said 3 Hail Marys and somehow it worked.

BUT now, the next problem. How do I get the pictures changed? I still can't figure that one out.
I feel like a total idiot today. Thanks for your help.

I understand the confusion. What eBay defines as the description section is what Auctiva uses for all of its integration of features including pictures, layout, background, description text, etc. That's why you see all the code at eBay's editor.

The Auctiva Description section in their editor is actually a subset that only defines the text portion of the eBay description. The Template defines the background and structure for picture placement, description title and text, and Seller Details. Those work in combination to build the code for the ebay defined description section of a listing.

If you only selectively updated or replaced the text, that method would work to just do a text portion of the ebay description. To add/update pictures or change the layout, you'd need all the code from Auctiva that creates that section or work-through selective HTML code changes for the same effect.

There are selective methods to modify the HTML code to add or change pictures, but its a pain that's best avoided for early attempts. Once you've had some experience with HTML coding and understand how Auctiva's templates and images work, it's still a challenge, but doable.

Auctiva integrates the pictures, background (template), etc. in the eBay defined Description section of the listing. That's why you see everything there. In order to update the pictures and/or the picture layout, the simplest and best method is to cut and paste the entire set of HTML code from an Auctiva Saved Listing to the eBay Revise Listing editor. That way you get everything in that section except the Scrolling Gallery. I still frequently use this method, and I know how to code. Auctiva's editor is a sophisticated code builder. That's why it's a cleaner, quicker method than selective code change.

If you already have a Saved Listing for the original submission, just update the changes to the Saved Listing, Save, and use the <HTLM> feature to Copy the HTML code. The <HTML> feature is in right-most column for each Saved Listing on the Saved Listings page.

Danno. That one little sentence could have saved me hours of frustration. That tiny little html symbol is so hard to see I never would have found it on my own. Never even would have thought to look there.

So thank you for that. Whew. I just relisted it. I ended up deleting the whole thing because I couldn't find where the scrolling gallery html started. I found the ending but that didn't help much. I inserted it where I thought it ought to go, so we'll see. The item number is 230268843405 if you want to check & see how I did.

Honestly, I wouldn't have gone through all this just to save the $2 listing fee. I had an error in the measurements and had 18 people watching it. No way to correct it in the text so I just ended it. This way, when they click on the one I had to end, it will direct them to the relist.
