New rates go into effect with eBay today

New rates go into effect on the 22nd for fee's.

As a reminder, eBay's 2006 fee changes, outlined in Bill Cobb’s letter on January 18th and highlighted below, will go into effect at midnight on February 22, 2006.

For core insertion fees for auctions and Fixed Price listings on eBay.com, the lowest tranche fee (i.e. for items with a starting price of $0.01 to $0.99) will be lowered from a quarter to twenty cents.

For feature fees --

Picture Show and Sales Reports Plus will be free for everyone.

Reserve Fees will be capped at a $50 maximum.

The fees for the second and third tiers of Picture Manager will be reduced and the storage levels you get will be increased.

Two new bundles of optional listing features will be available which can save you up to 39% per listing.

The final value fee for the middle tranche will increase from 2.75% to 3% for auctions and Fixed Price listings on eBay.com.

There are no changes for eBay Stores fees.

I still think this one is odd. I think I understand the reasoning behind it (lower starting bids should generate more revenue for eBay) but doesn't it further encourage fee avoidance?

I wonder what the percentage is of legitimate auctions that start for 99¢ or less?

That's a valid point, but still, as in my case, I offer realistic shipping on everything I sell, which often grabs much higher bids on my items when compared to my competitors. But still, your point is very valid...maybe someday (as eBay claims they will), fee avoidance will finally be addressed.

If I remember, I believe Bill Cobb claimed that shipping costs...i.e. the actual shipping and then the handling, are going to start being displayed this year. If that's true, than anyone who pays lets say 1.99 for shipping and charges 13.00 for handling would be standed in the waters when it comes to us sellers who would charge the 1.99 plus 1.99 handling, or something of that nature...I think that would be the most effective way to handle this issue........

That was my understanding, too.
Do a search and it pretty much evens out the field if persons would LOOK?SCROLL DOWN at all the items before placing a bid.
