If you sometimes sell more than one item to a customer, you will probably not want to use checkout. Auctiva's checkout is not yet capable of combining multiple items into one invoice, so customers will have to pay separately for each item, or you will have to generate invoices from PayPal for these purchases.

As far as insurance, you can make that decision on a per-item basis. When you sell something and want to use Auctiva insurance, go to the Sales tab. There you will see a list of your recent sales, and there will be a link next to each item which will allow you to purchase insurance. You can also email a notice to your customers which shows them insurance information for their item.

I use Auctiva insurance whenever I can - it is cheaper than USPS insurance. If you charge the standard USPS rate, you will make a little bit of money. And every little bit helps!
Hi, Personally I dont use either one. I love Auctiva, but I do not care for the insurance and check-out they offer, but many do.Search around the boards for issues regarding ins. & checkout,to form your own choice. I have seen people have some issues on checkout when Auctiva is upgrading,so this is why I do not choose to select, also some issues on insurance, although you can profit from the insurance, especially if you are a high volume seller. Welcome to Auctiva..and the boards are great..its the best way to get to know the site..at least I think so!!
We do combine shipping, we sell many christmas items so we do have buyers who will purchase more than one item. Just wanted to make sure we were doing everything right. I really like the boards here, everyone is so nice and helpful. Thank you cakethings for your help yesterday! After I got through one of my being dumb moments and hit the right preview I did fine! That's what happens when we try for hours to do something over and over. I love the added touch Auctiva gives my listings. Thank you
Hi vintagelady,

1) Auctiva checkout is a default setting on your account which can be enable/disabled at Auctiva -> My Account(tab) -> Checkout Settings. The main benefit of Auctiva checkout is that, if you have a merchant account with an Authorize.net gateway, you can accept payment directly to your merchant account through Auctiva checkout. The main disadvantage to using Auctiva checkout is that we're currently unable to accomodate combined invoices.

2) ...and here's a description of Auctiva's revenue sharing shipping insurance plan:

If you use Auctiva Checkout and have Auctiva Shipping Insurance enabled, which are default settings for your account, your customers will have the option of buying insurance for the prices indicated at Auctiva -> My Account -> Auctiva Shipping Insurance Settings -> Rates and Details, which are virtually the same rates as USPS, and also cover international shipments to most countries. Of each $1.30 you receive, we would bill you $1.05 and the insurance would be purchased by Auctiva on your behalf. This revenue sharing insurance plan leaves you with a profit of at least 25 cents every time a customer purchases insurance through one of your auctions, while the rate charged to the customer is no more than USPS would charge. Auctiva Shipping Insurance policies are honored by U-Pic and complete claim forms and filing instructions can be found at http://www.U-Pic.com .

Your Auctiva Shipping Insurance balance will be dispalyed at Auctiva -> My Account(tab) -> Auctiva Shipping Insurance Settings, and you can add funds to your account from that page as well. It is best to deposit some money in your shipping insurance account ahead of time so when insurance is purchased by one of your customers, the insurance charge will be deducted from your balance. We allow your outstanding insurance balance to go to - $5, at which point it becomes disabled, and it can be reenabled by depositing funds into your account.

If you're not using Auctiva checkout and would still like to use Auctiva Shipping Insurance, policies can be purchased after the sale by clicking the "Purchase Insurance" link next to the item on your Sales(tab) -> Transactions page.

I hope this helps=) Welcome.

-Mike
