Lots of issues with image hosting today. In my Active Listings Folder so many are missing the thumbnail (again) but they show up on ebay.

Here is a new one, quite a few have a completely different pic in the thumbnail on Auctiva Active Listings, than what is on ebay. There is one pic of a woman in a bathing suit that didn't even come from my computer.

What's going on Auctiva?
All photos I uploaded to Auctiva on 9-12-2011 are a mess. Auctiva reduced the photo size to 36x36 on ALL THE UPLOADS on the 12th.

So all these 45 photos are sized at 36x36 in Auctiva Images and are a invisible on ebay. It must have been some Auctiva glitch as ALL the photos from that date are messed up.

I discovered the error yesterday... on 9-16-2011 when I noticed that 7 of my listings have NO photos. The photos are showing in my SAVED listings in normal size. And I usually check my completed listings on ebay for make sure there is a photo... so I wonder if the Auctiva glitch happened AFTER the listings were posted on ebay.

The other unused photos are in SAVED Auctiva listings and have not been launched to ebay yet so I canceled the 7 listings on ebay and will do those over again with NEW photos.

I am never a happy camper when I have to do more work through NO fault of my own. And I get annoyed when Auctiva does not take the blame for their errors too... just saying

So I have to DELETE all these 45 photos from IMAGES on Auctiva... and upload all 45 photos again to Auctiva IMAGE from my computer card. ... most annoying.

The tone of the HELP message I got from Auctiva made it seem as if it was "somehow" my fault. The photos all look good at my end... nice large size photos.

ItsJustMe...
you might want to check and make sure all your ebay listings that you launched on the 12th... or are using photos from and IMAGE upload of the 12th... have photos showing in the listing on ebay.

Check your IMAGE folder and look at the SIZE of your photos if you uploaded photos on 9-12. I have 45 save IMAGE files in Auctiva that are 36x36... and I have to upload these all over again. Frown
THIS IS THE REPLY I GOT BACK from Auctiva support... in case it is of help to anyone else.

========= Reply from Auctiva Support 9-16-2011

".... I have heard back from my manager regarding this issue and he has pointed out that the images uploaded to your Auctiva account are of an unusually small size (32 pixels x 32 pixels). We see this behavior every now and then when images are corrupted during the upload process. Fortunately, this behavior is rare so you should not see it again if you attempt to re-upload the images in question again.

That being the case, the only remedy for this behavior will be to upload new copies of the needed images to your Auctiva account, add the new copies to the listings in question and then to revise your active listings to include them.

You can use the following directions to add the images back to your active listings. The first set of directions will be for revising the images in the item description and the second set will be for fixing the header images:

In order to change the header/gallery image in an active listing, you will need to revise the listing using eBay’s “Revise your Item” form, which can be done via the following process:

Revise your item description images:

1) Locate your listing in your Saved Listings folder, make any necessary changes, and save.
2) Click the "<HTML> icon to the right of the item on your "Saved Listings" page
3) Select All and copy the html in the popup window.
4) Locate the item on eBay and click the "Revise Item" button.
5) Scroll down to the "Description" section and then click the "HTML" tab above the description editor.
6) Delete the existing description HTML, paste the copied HTML in its place, and save your changes.

Revise your header image:

1) Locate the image you would like to use as your header/gallery image on your Auctiva Manage Images page and copy the URL listed next to the image
2) Go to the "Revise your Item" page on eBay for the item
3) Click the "Add Pictures" button in the section labeled "Bring your item to life with pictures"
4) Make sure the "Self Hosting" tab is selected and paste the image URL you copied in the field labeled "Enter the URL (Web address) of picture to link to on a Web server"
5) Click the "Insert Picture" button
6) Save your changes.

I hope that this response has been helpful. If you have any further questions, concerns, or comments, please, don’t hesitate to contact us again... "
I am having picture issues too. Mine seem a little different and figured this is MY issue, but after resetting camera and new computer, am wondering. Some of mine Mine will not load on auctiva until I resize picture. Some do some do not say that, it is hassle to go in and guess which need resizing. Plus, why when taking pictures all taken same time some require resize and others not?

Seems like Just another issue to me. I have not written support but again, will on Monday.

I did have problem Tiger is having and got same solution for a couple. That is Pain to do if you have a lot of them for sure.

ARG.. .just another day in paradise!!

I went back and forth with what size photo to set on my camera. Ha! So... to avoid all the hassle of what is "optimal size" I always take photos at 2816 x 2112. I upload big photos to Auctiva.

Depending on which way I hold my camera... Auctiva reduces the size of the photo to one of two sizes.

Auctiva reduces my photos to:
768x1024 OR 1280x960

I have SD cards for my camera and rotate the cards. Since Auctiva will reduce the size of the photo, it made no sense to mess around with sizes. I want to make sure the ENLARGE feature in the template is working too. So my camera is set for 2816 x 2112 and that is the size I upload to Auctiva.

The photo loses detail every time it is messed with so why resize when it is not necessary? I might crop a photo but I never reduce or enlarge. The Auctiva software resizes all big photos to their optimal size during the upload.

My camera setting is the same for the MACRO photos and those come in at a smaller size. Smile
PS... I only use the Auctiva Uploader and NOT the other one.

I take a lot of photos from all views of the widget. Then I VIEW the photos on the SD card in Windows and double click to VIEW in my photo program.

Then I RENAME the photos I am keeping right on my camera card. (not in the photo program) I very seldom save a photo to my computer. I put the new name IN FRONT of the photo number too. I do NOT delete the photo number assigned by my camera... as it is easier to find if the photo arrives on Auctiva out of order.

So... after I rename the photos on the CAMERA CARD... then I DELETE the photos I don't want on the card.

Then I upload to Auctiva in the Auctiva Uploader. I ROTATE a photo when necessary in the Auctiva Upload Software... just before ADDING to the Auctiva Uploader.

Then I crop if necessary in the one page Auctiva lister... so simple Cool
WARNING WARNING...

THIS IS A BIG HEADS UP... to check any photos you uploaded tonight.

The SAME thing happened again!!! Auctiva said this seldom happens!

I uploaded 54 photos tonight and Auctiva made ALL THE PHOTOS a SMALL 32 pixels x 32 pixels.

I am very unhappy about this. Now I have listings on ebay AGAIN with a 32x32 photo that I have to close.

And now I have to upload all 54 photos again to Auctiva... and I have to DELETE the 54 photos in Images. And I have to check my Auctiva SAVED LISTINGS and replace any of the 54 photos I used in those listings too!

This is most annoying and time comsumming to take out and replace 54 photos. When will this be fixed? Frown
tiger it's monday so a good time to follow up on support tickets or escalate them or even file new ones.

I handle my photos differently. I edit each one and then save to my pc. I upload using auctiva as I do the ad. i always save the edited version because i have had software crash and it prevents a certain amount of rework. Given the instability of auctiva, everyone should be backing up photos.

plenty of times there is no thumbnail, a major pet peeve and the pic actually exists on ebay. so it is clearly not an ebay problem.
itsjustme...

I have a lot of SD cards so I just keep the photos on the card until these are showing on Auctiva in images, in SAVED listings and are on ebay.

I take the photos in natural light with light or dark backgrounds depending on the color of the item. So I am not doing a lot of photo editing.

It use to take me all day to work on a few photos when I first started selling. Then a long time ebay seller told me to just take extra photos as all I needed to do in most photos was to "rotate or crop" the photo. So I took around 150 photos on this last batch and I kept around 50 photos of the 150 to use for my listings.

I have mostly collectibles... mostly OOAK items... so once the item sells, I do not need the photos again. If I have more than one of the same item, then I SAVE the photo to an external hard drive too.

I never had problems like this with Auctiva Images. I have photos stored in Auctiva images that are over 2 years old. Some of these are OOAK antiques that might be rare and I just want to keep the photos for reference in case the item shows up for resale on the internet.

Also I always keep photos on a SOLD listing for over 90 days in case of a CLAIM or in case of a CHARGE BACK.

I wonder if Auctiva is up to date in their coding on the LATEST versions of Firefox and IE? For example, I was in the latest version of Firefox and the LINK to add an AVATAR was NOT there in the Community setup screens when viewed in Firefox 6.0.2

So I switched browsers and had a look using the IE 8 browser... and the LINK was in the Community Setup to add the Avatar in IE8. So obviously Auctiva did not program the Community user setup for the latest version of Firefox as there was NO "add an Avatar" link in the setup when viewing in Firefox 6.0.2

I always have BOTH browsers up when doing ebay so I can have 2 ebay ID's up at the same time. I don't remember which browser I used to upload these 54 photos last night to Auctiva but I think it was Firefox.

A long time ago I had a problem on Auctiva where I had question marks showing up in my listings on ebay when I used the QUOTE sign on the keyboard for INCHES. My ebay listing would display 6?x6?x6? instead of 6"x6"x6". Auctiva told me to switch to the FIREFOX browser to prepare my Descriptions in Auctiva... and the problem would go away. So I switched to Firefox and had no further problems at the time with QUESTION MARKS showing up in my ebay listing Descriptions.

So my point is that Auctiva might be behind in their coding if the user has updated browsers?? I have not received a reply back from Auctiva Support on the issue of Auctiva reducing the size of all my photos to 32 pixels x 32 pixels during the upload.

Also when the SAME reduction of my photos happened on the 12th... the photos were still showing in the SAVED listings after I deleted the bad photos in the IMAGE files. Auctiva said the photos would automatically disappear from the SAVE listings and that is NOT true. I had to take out all the bad photos BY HAND from the SAVED Auctiva listings too.

I checked my photos at my end... and all of my photos on my computer are still in 2618 x 2112 pixels. So the problem is NOT my photos.

So everyone should check the SIZE of their photos in IMAGES if they did an upload yesterday. I have not tried to upload photos this AM as I was waiting to hear back from Auctiva first.

But I did CLOSE the affected listings on ebay last night. I am not going to do all those loooooong STEPS Auctiva gave me to try and correct the ebay listings. I would rather launch a new listing than figure out all those various steps to correct the problem. Ha!

Is there anyone else with photo upload problems from last night? Cool
WELL... this is the reply I got back from Auctiva.

Hello xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for following up with us regarding this matter again.

We're not aware of any technical issues at our end which account to this behavior nor we're receiving any reports of such nature from other Auctiva users.

It seems to be a rarest of rare case and an unknown issue at your end which we cannot explain.

But we do recommend you to check the image resolution from Manage Images page after uploading them in Auctiva to avoid going through the all these revisions.

Moreover, you can replace an image in the description of an active listing through alternative and shorter way as well, check the box next to the image on your “Manage Images” page and click the “Replace” button. Then, click the grey “Browse” button that appears to select the image you would like to upload in place of the checked image from your hard drive. Once that image has been selected, click the blue “Upload” button. Once completed, the newly uploaded image will replace the checked image.

However, to replace an header/gallery image, you need to follow the steps provided by Todd.

If you have any additional questions or concerns pertaining to your Auctiva account, please feel free to let us know, and we’ll be happy to continue assisting you.

Sincerely,
Auctiva Support

I think they are saying that SOMEHOW it is my fault. This tech did not even bring the problem back to Auctiva development! I find it hard to believe that I am the ONLY one with this "RARE" problem.

I did a TEST upload of a photo this AM. There was NO THUMBNAIL photos when using Firefox 6.0.2 browser.

So it is obvious they have not done all the coding to optimize this 6.0.2 version of Firefox. There was NO PHOTO reference in the Auctiva Uploader and only FILE NAMES were visable. There was an icon image where the photo should be. So I did the upload on the TEST file name and it arrived on Auctiva in the correct file size this AM. BUT I need to see a PHOTO when I upload. So I hope they have all the coding done to optimize IE8.

It is annoying when Auctiva blames the USER for Auctiva software glitches!! And it is super annoying when I have to take extra time to correct the AUCTIVE errors and Auctiva Software glitches. Frown
SOMETHING has happened at auctiva. Things just have gone to you know where in a handbasket lately.

Seems there are a lot of issues I just work around (which is a pain) rather than go through pain of writing support.

I hate to say this, but found forums more active before they went to pay plan and can't imagine $10 ish knocking that many users off. Found generally speaking that the services were better and I am assuming more people on and feel auctiva was more tuned into the forums. Now, that being said some of this could be related to the change of ownership. but whatever it is, something needs to be done about the multiple issues going on (it makes me tired reading them) Not band-aids, not things where we are adding work to work to work! Picture issues and duplicate listing issues seem to be cropping up regularly now. Due to the fact that my last photo issue to support they gave me fix of how to fix that listing and was given this is isolated incident. I frankly do not write on them anymore for that even though I do have them. (going to fix in ebay and reloading is not the answer to solve the problem). It is a bandaid.

Notice commerce is having problems too.

Frankly, IF I were looking for commerce solution and read the forums before signing up I would run like a mad-man away from this site. While I do not have commerce store and have sure considered it many times, the more problem I read about the scarier it gets. For someone who has never been on auctiva, it must be extremely frightening.

Auctiva, is this going to improve before holidays?

I can't begin to imagine the confusion and problems then, especially when ebay runs listing specials!

Thanks

AGAIN... THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. I cannot upload any photos again today.

There is a BIG problem. I just uploaded 13 photos 2816px x 2112px in the Auctiva Uploader... using the IE8 browser... and Auctiva reduced all my photos to size 32px x 32px.

There are NO PHOTOS showing when I try use the Auctiva Uploader... using the Firefox 6.0 browser. Only the file names are showing and I need to see the photos to pick and choose which photos to upload.

This is has been a problem since 9-16. Your Auctiva Upload software is NOT working in IE8 and features in Firefox 6.0.2 are not working.

When will this be fixed? I cannot believe that I am the only one with the "RARE" problem of not being able to upload photos to Auctiva using IE8.

How can I use the Auctiva Uploader in the Firefox 6.0 browser if you have no photos showing?

I upload the BIG SIZE photo to Auctiva and then it is out of my hands. I have no control of your software after I upload the 2816 x 2112 size photo to Auctiva.

I cannot control what size Auctiva gives my photo and reduction to size 32x32 is NOT acceptable and useless on ebay.

What is Auctiva development doing about this MAJOR GLITCH PHOTO issue? Frown
I just got home after being away for 8 hours and still not able to upload photos. When I go to upload no photos appear. I have not changed anything I have been doing for 5 years. My photos are not too small, they are the same size as they have always been. I had problems on the day that Ebay offered free listings last week. The listings took forever to upload to Ebay. I have some many saved listings and photos related to active listings on Auctiva that I am virtually held hostage to switch to another auction management company. I pay my fees every month, please provide me with uninterrupted service. Is that too much to ask for?
This may or MAY not be related but figure will put here just in case it is related. I have noticed last few weeks that some of my pictures have this notice when trying to upload on auctiva.

quote:
You can not upload filed larger than 3.5 mb. Image files larger than 3.5 have not been added.

I am using same camera, taking pictues at same time and some will load and others will not. NOW, if I go back and resize the photos that it says this on it will work, but when viewing I can't see photo size difference.

I would assume if it were camera setting that it would require resize on all photos taken in that session.

Anyone know what could be happening here. Like I said, this may NOT be related to your issues. IF NOT I will be happy to start new thread. . if someone will tell me, as I do not want to hi-jack this one.

Thanks all for posting so that we all know to look through our listings.
