Once I get a bid, the Buy It Now does not go away

eBay is experimenting in some categories with a 'semi-persistent' Buy It Now where it will remain in place until the showing bid reaches 50% of the Buy It Now price. The following is a link to ebay where they explained what they were doing...

:::scratching my head::: Okay, I read the announcements on the link in the last post, but I can't really figure out exactly how this would "enhance" the buying or selling experience. It seems like Buy It Now will become Buy It Eventually?

I almost understand (I think) how this might help a seller, but if I'm a buyer and I choose to <b>Buy It Now</b> ('now' being the key word), I should be the winner of that item.

Maybe I need to read it again? Or maybe not - me head still hurts from reading it the first time!

The way I understand it, if you bid on an item, the Buy It Now option will not go away unless your bid is at least 50% of the Buy It Now price.
If you choose the Buy It Now option, you win the auction right then at the BIN price.
