Hello all, I've been selling on ebay for a long time, nearly 8000 feedback. Here's the loophole and what to do about it: Customer buys item. Item is shipped priority mail with delivery confirm tracking. Customer goes on vacation (so they say). They set up the Post Office with gone on vacation card. All items are held at Post Office. Pink cards are left at their mail box for items to be picked up. Here's the Loophole. The Post Office does not require signature on pink card to pick up item. Item is given to customer at some point in time after the item is sitting at the Post Office say for 5 days. The post office can and does mark the item on the delivery confirm as sitting at the Post Office or is being sent back to the sender. So if you do not get the item back and the customer did pick it up and the Post Office did not mark the item in the delivery confirm as picked up, then the customer can go to Paypal and file a claim that they did not get the item, because the delivery confirm says that it will likely be sent back to the sender. Paypal has no choice but rule in favor of the buyer assuming that the items were sent back and the customer has a valid claim..............This is a major loophole that needs to be fixed by the Post Office actually. What can you do as a seller: When they file the paypal claim, you escalate the claim, then go to your Post Office and file a complaint of nonreturn of the item, or that the P.O. did not mark the item picked up at the customers Post Office and demand an investigation at the customers Post Office. There is an 800 number you will call to get this going. You may get positive results by either the PO showing that the item was picked up on the delivery confirm or the item being sent back. Sure would beat the item missing, or the customer getting the money and the item and then, their sending you an email dancing on your head how they beat you in the scam like this customer did to me. Hope this helps in closing the loophole for other sellers.

We had 3 Pay Pal Claims in the past 2 months for that very reason. I've complained to Pay Pal with no response, of course. I ended up refunding the customers..who knows if they ever got the items. Frustrating. I will follow your suggestion and see if that will help. Thank you for posting your message.

Hi all, I just can't believe you lost in this situation that sure sounds like a scam to me. I noticed that you shipped priority mail, with delivery confirmation. You did not mention if you had signature confirmation. As far as I know, using signature confirmation requires the post office to get a signature from the recipient, as long as you do NOT checkmark the waiver of signature boxes. Did you have sig/confirmation on the package? You should check it out with your postal service if the name on the signature confirmation slip is the only person that can sign for the package, even if picked up at the post office.
