Anyone using one of those Paypal security key things? The key fob sized device that changes it's 6 digit login code every 30 seconds. If you are, I'm curious what you think of it, and why you felt you needed it, and if you've got it linked to any other sites other than Paypal and/or eBay. No, I don't use one, I'm just curious.

I understand how it works and such. I'm just curious if anyone is using it. I agree, for me it would be a hassle too. I personally feel my account is locked down tight enough with it's random password, not answering phish mails, etc. I not considering it for myself, I was just seeing what others thought and if anyone used one.

edit: after reading some of those messages, it seems like a waste. It also appears it could get in the way of sniping programs and other 3rd party software that has to log in on your behalf.
I been using it now for a few months with no glitches.

Here is the thing, with all the phishing schemes out there it is a real comfort knowing that no one can get into my paypal account without it.

The only draw back is if you activate with your eBay account you cannot use a snipe program to bid on eBay if you use a snipe program like I do.

For what I do, snip is a necessity not an option for me.

So what I do is just use the key for my paypal account.

I am on my eBay every day so I am not really concerned about that account, if something happens I am going to catch it just like I did one time in the past and stopped the guy in his tracks.

Paypal gives you a back up measure if the key malfunctions, you can still gain access to your account without the key, but you have to answer a security question that you pick out.

So even if the key goes belly up you still can gain access to your account.

Trust me in these days of password thefts spyware and phishing schemes it is a really nice security measure to have.

Tell me is five bucks worth keeping someone from emptying your paypal account into their account or using your account to purchase things on eBay and having them sent to them instead of you?

Hum????
I wonder was it worth it for me?

YES!!!!!!!!! Big Grin
If you use smart email security practices, you won't get caught in those phishing scams. Neither my eBay nor PayPal account have ever been compromised. I always check the links in the emails I get to make sure they're legit, and if I'm ever in doubt I just go straight to PayPal or eBay and login.
Another reason that I didn't like it was that I log in from different locations, I could carry it with me but sometimes I have someone else log in and then they wouldn't have the key.

Yes they have a back up to get around the security key, but when mine gave out the stupid backup system gave out too.
Big GrinWell you must have gotten on board early on, I have been using it for about three months now and no glitches.

The super neat thing is that no one can get into the paypal account without this beauty and you know what?

Piece of mind is no small price to pay if I hit a glitch and cannot get into my account until I get the glitch worked out, because no one else can as well and if I need funds that are there I have a paypal debit card Wink
