I put up a post recently and was upset when I saw how washed out the colors of my item looked after creating my ad via Auctiva compared to how vibrant they were on my own computer. Not surprisingly, the item garnered zero interest so I decided to try to fix the photos and relist. The photos were jpeg files to begin with, and I made sure to save them with an embeded color profile this time, but every time I upload them to Auctiva, the colors get washed out again! I've never had this happen before. What's going on?!?

Hi,

I have a suggestion to try. Upload the photo(s) to www.photobucket.com and see if you get a similar result.

BTW...you can also use the URL link from photobucket on the one-page lister as a bypass until whatever is causing the problem is resolved.

I too have seen the washed-out image problem (on occassion), but I've also seen the images sometimes snap to crystal-clear after about 30 minutes in the system.

Which photo-editor are you using and what is the resolution of a typical picture before the upload? Also, are you using the new Auctiva Uploader or the old HTML? Note, the former does resizing of the image on the desktop prior to the upload transfer. With the later, you resize yourself to max of 1024 x 768 before uploading. I'd be interesting if the later gives you a better result.

Hi Dano, and thanks for you answer. I will definitely try the Photobucket route, hadn't even considered that. I haven't had this problem before and it so happens that on these photos it is critical that the colour remain as saturated as possible.

I use Photoshop as a photo editor. I do a "save for web" once I've got the image looking the way I want it to and sized down to less than 1024 x 78 at 72dpi then embed the colour profile before uploading via HTML. last time I used the new uploader there was some sort of kink and since I don't need my images any larger than that, I've stuck to the HTML method since.

The problem with the de-saturation didn't fix itself last time unfortunately. I looked at my listing several hours after it had been posted which is when I realized with horror that all the colours had been de-saturated, and it stayed that way for the duration.

I've also contacted the Auctiva people directly about this issue but so far haven't gotten a satisfactory answer. So as I said, I'll try uploading my images with Photobucket next time which should hopefully (probably) get my listing up and running much faster and in full colour!
