hi Pink_cherrypie I agree something needs to be done about the image system but I DO NOT agree with your wording! This is after all a community forum and I for one do not relish being subjected to your profane language.I am no prude but if I want to view excrement such as this I will go to a truckers forum(nothing against truckers BTW Smile)There is a time and a place for all things however this is not the place for offensive language posts. Thanks for the edit Mike D. Smile
As a suggestion for uploading images I have reverted back to the HTML uploader until Auctiva support hashes out the current bugs. it seems to work very well but is a bit more work than the other uploaders

Have you done your part by filing a support case? This is a community forum so even though Auctiva staff drops in, the easiest way to get something fixed is by filing a support case. They are very fast to answer complaints.

I've rarely had problems with images. Are yours too large? That can slow it down or cause problems.

Most posters on this forum are helpful and polite. I for one don't appreciate your language. Hopefully its a fluke due to your frustration. I hope things smooth out for you.

Also, I might add, make sure you don't try to upload anything larger than Auctiva's maximum size of 1024x768 or the extra processing it takes to downsize can take forever, or even cause a crash. That size or smaller should zip right through with the HTML loader. Also reducing your file size to about 100KB before uploading can speed things up as well. It's not necessarily all Auctiva's fault.

This forum can be a great resource for you. It may not be in your best interest to go off like an atomic bomb with your very first post. Wink
Resizing your images to 1024x768 before uploading them and compressing them would help a lot.

Digital cameras these days spit out 3-5 meg files. Even on a very fast connection that will take upwards of 2-3 minutes a photo. Another option would be to set your cameras image quality to "Web" or Medium or low. That should reduce the size down to a mere: 1600x1200 which is still bigger than we need and we'll shrink it more but it will also still upload faster than leaving the camera in high resolution mode.

If you'd like to use a desktop program to edit and crop your photos before uploading them then a free program such as irfanview will work good:

We're not doing any work on any of the uploaders. They've been pretty much the same for nearly the whole time the site has been around. The java and drag and drop uploaders are written by 3rd parties and are used on hundreds if not thousands of sites. So I'm fairly certain they're solid.
Hi! I've been having trouble uploading my images too! Drag & Drop gets an error code 12031. and Basic HTML uploader gets some error I can't read...shows up half behind a line. I was not having any problems til after Thurs. maintenance...since then everything's slow and my images are not uploading without re-trying and re-trying and only doing one at a time, sometimes over and over and over.
I'm using the same size photos, from the same camera, I used earlier and had no problem with.
Thanks!
Hi StormyKat - I just tested the HTML loader and it is definitely running slower than usual. I uploaded an 800x600, 100kb pic in about 20 seconds, three days ago it took 2 seconds. It was still sucessful however and I have never gotten an error message. I've got an old Dell, 930Mhz, Win98se, and a slow broadband setup.

What size are you uploading? As mentioned in the above posts, anything larger the 1024x768 is more likely to cause trouble. If you are getting errors with that size or smaller, I would try filing a support request and see if support can help. Just go the Help page. Or this problem may just go away on it own since it was working better for us before, although Thursday maintenence was almost a week ago....hmmm.
Hi Nith_Wave! I'm not sure what size my pictures are...3M is the setting on my camera. How do you tell? I really don't think it's their size tho, because I wasn't having this problem earlier.
I did file a support request.
Well, I finally loaded my 9 pictures...took awhile I had better luck with Drag & Drop tonight...only could D&D 1 or 2 at a time.
Thanks!
At least you are making some progress. The 3M setting on your camera probably stands for 3 megapixels which is way bigger than you need and will slow your upload a lot, if it goes through at all. If you have a 1 megapixel setting, use that. Even smaller would be better if you can. Auctiva's maximum size of 1024x768 pixels when multiplied out equals 786,432 pixels, or about 0.8 megapixels, so Auctiva would still have to downsize your pic even at 1 megapixel.

The ideal way is to use a simple photo editing program to control image size, file size, cropping, contrast, and all those other goodies before you upload. That way you are uploading the best image you can create, which will definitely pay off in more bids, higher prices, etc, not to mentions fewer upload hassles. If you do use a editor, then it is best to take the pics at your HIGHEST megapixel setting, and wait until you are through manipulating them in your PC before downsizing them for final upload. That will result in better images. Big Grin
