OK, so I finally completed my first Profile-derived, template based listing and it has issues. Hoping that some kind person or persons can assist me with my difficulties.

First, here’s the link to the listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item...ageName=STRK:MESE:IT

So, from top to bottom:

1. The template is working against me here, at least when paired with the eBay generated headers and store directory (and I’m fond of those, so would rather not lose them if possible). This listings has become one of those annoying ones which must be scrolled left-to-right in order to see in its entirety. Obviously, were it not for the rather large borders in the template we would not have this problem, and so my first instinct was to go and try to find a borderless template. They all, however, seem to take up the same area (at least from the illustrations). Any ideas? I’m sure that this is one that others have faced.

2. Love the scrolling showcase. It’s a real Auctiva plus. How can I move it down to the bottom of the listing?

The next couple both have to do with formatting changes that occurred when I posted.

3. Under description, below the photo and the blurb, one can see two charts of description. The one on the left begins ‘Frame:...,”the second begins ‘Dimensions,’ and seems to have found its way to some phantom column on the left. I saw this in the original Item Description profile, and attempted to move it down below the first chart (where it was originally inserted) but it seems to have been a change that didn’t take. Any ideas as to why this would have happened?

4. Under Terms of Sale, my carefully formatted and enumerated list seems to have lost its form. I’m hoping that this is a simple matter of going back and inserting Paragraph tags <P></P>. Is there any other reason that anyone can think of why this might have taken on a paragraph form, rather than the list that I had it in?

Oh, and one more thing:

I cannot seem to figure out where to select Store Category in the profile area (nor the listing area). I'm sure this is just me being blind, but I've gone over them all several times. I would have expected to find it near the eBay Category selection, but it doesn't seem to be there.

Thanks again for all the help, on this and my previous questions.

Let's see if I can help a bit:

1) I frequently use a "generic" template called Liquid Red. It doesn't have any large visible border like the one you're using right now - but it might have an invisible margin that would still make it necessary to scroll left-right on your listing. Some more options would be for you to either scale down the image OR create a smaller version and use the supersize feature. (I see you're using externally hosted images. If you use Auctiva image hosting Auctiva automatically resizes your picture to fit in the listing, and gives it the supersize option so that visitors can view the full size picture also).

2) Go to the tab called "Store". Look on the right side. Click "Edit Scrolling Gallery."

3) The only I can think of would be to change the editor to text mode and check the code and see if you can figure anything out.

4) I couldn't tell you on that one.
Hi Shantyhag - I don't know if you have revised this listing since posting, but when I view it, I don't have to scroll left to right. My screen is set to 1280x1024 - don't know if that helps you.

Regarding your list, in Terms of Sale - I've just viewd the source for that area, and I cannot see any <li> code. Now I am no HTML expert (I have trouble spelling HTML Big Grin ), but I'm sure you need to specify this in HTMA as an Ordered List. First command is <OL>, and close that off at the very end of the list with </OL>. Then immediately prior to each entry, use <li>and immediately after each item use </li>. You will not need the digits you have there now, these will be put in for you. This is how I think it should read:

<ol><li>1. PLEASE BE SURE THAT OUR AUCTION OR EBAY STORE ITEM WILL MEET YOUR NEEDS BEFORE YOU BID. THE SALE IS CONSIDERED FINAL AND NON-REFUNDABLE. WE WILL ALWAYS WORK TO MAKE YOU SATISFIED, BUT IT IS INFINITELY EASIER TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. </li><li>2. WHILE WE ACT DILIGENTLY TO MAINTAIN CURRENT INVENTORY COUNTS, OUR EBAY SITE IS NOT THE ONLY OUTLET FOR SALES OF GREENLINE BICYCLES. OCCASIONALLY SOME COLORS OR STYLES MAY GO OUT OF STOCK BEFORE WE CAN ADJUST OUR LISTINGS ACCORDINGLY. WE UPDATE OUR EBAY LISTING INVENTORY DAILY, SO DO BID WITH CONFIDENCE. IN THE EVENT THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO MEET YOUR SPECIFIC ORDER, WE WILL OFFER YOU A SELECTION OF OTHER COLORS OR STYLES AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. IF WE ARE UNABLE TO SATISFY YOU WITH IN-STOCK INVENTORY, WE WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY IN ITS ENTIRETY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF THIS HAPPENING, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL WITHIN ONE BUSINESS DAY. </li><li>3. WE ACCEPT ALL MAJOR CREDIT CARDS EITHER VIA TELEPHONE OR THROUGH PAYPAL, CASHIERS CHECKS, PERSONAL CHECKS (MUST WAIT FOR CLEARANCE), MONEY ORDERS. </li><li>4. BUYERS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTACT US WITHIN THREE DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE. </li><li>5. ALL OF THE EBAY ITEMS MUST BE SHIPPED TO BUYERS. WILL CALL IS NOT AVAILABLE. CURRENTLY, WE DO NOT SHIP BICYCLES INTERNATIONALLY, EXCEPT TO CANADA. SHIPPING RATES ARE FOR THE 48 CONTIGIOUS UNITED STATES. ALASKA, HAWAII AND CANADIAN CUSTOMERS SHOULD CONTACT US PRIOR TO PURCHASE. </li><li>6. EACH ITEM WILL BE SHIPPED WITHIN 2 BUSINESS DAYS VIA GROUND GROUND SERVICE UPON RECEIPT OF CERTIFIED FUNDS. THE SHIPPING COST LISTED IS FOR THE CONTIGUOUS 48 UNITED STATES ONLY AND IS NOT REFUNDABLE. BECAUSE BIKES ARE TOO LARGE TO BE SHIPPED WITH USPS, WE DO NOT SHIP TO APO, FPO, OR P.O. BOX ADDRESS. Good Morning, Pete and Kbalona,

First, Wow! Thank you for the follow-ups on this.

Pete, I have gone through and put <p></p> everywhere that you have <li>. One is line, I think, and one is paragraph; though I admittedly know as little or less about HTMA (:-)) than do you. I'm going to go back through and try it with the Line tags. Thanks for that.

You also must have either incredible eyesight, a huge monitor or both. I'm also at 1024x768.

I have altered that listing to the extent that I was able to move that chart down below by hand in the list. I also resized the photo. That made a difference for me as well, but I still have some minor left-to-right scrolling. It's better, but it's not yet perfect. I'm going to keep playing with the templates this morning to see if I can get it right; but there comes a point of diminshing returns. Xmas is a bike season, and I'm probably not selling several a day while I humor my own perfectionism.

Thanks again to both of you. I appreciate all of your help. I'll post a link to a revised listing in a little while so you can see the results of your assistance.

Shantyhag
Hi Shanty, no problem, glad to help. Yes, <p> is paragraph, but that's not strictly what you want here I think. <OL> is Ordered List, i.e. numbered bullets. <li> means List Item. So if you put

<OL><li>One</li><li>Two</li><li>Three</li></OL>

You would see:

1. One
2. Two
3. Three

And I think (I stand to be corrected here) <UL> means unordered list, i.e. Bullets.

As for the screen size, interestingly I viewed another listing earlier and it was way to big for my screen, so I'm not sure what governs it. I don't know if it's possible to optimise it for a particular screensize, and whether that can be done using the HTML code, maybe someone clever will be along in a while Big Grin
