Hi,

Thanks again for the awesome free services which Auctiva provides. I have an ongoing gripe for which I would like to get some feedback.

I requested that the value pack be made part of Auctiva's Marketing Tools and was blown-off by a member of the staff who said that it would advertise eBay's template tool and that Auctiva shouldn' help a competitor.

I believe this kind of thinking is wrong, dangerous and self-defeating. You are focing me to have to manually revise every listing I post to get the value pack discount for the features I use namely Subtitle and Gallery Picture. It is a pain in the ass so I hate you a little bit more with every listing I needlessly have to edit. You don't want your customers to hate you do you?

Your assumption about helping eBay is just plain wrong as no one is forcing us to use eBay templates. And it's not like those templates are some big secret. The value pak is a good deal without templates because it discounts the cost of a subtitle and gallery picture.

Dangerous because Auctiva should be focused on helping their customers and should a situation arise whereby helping your customer might help a competitor then helping your customer still comes first.

And self defeating because companies which fail to heed this "customer first" message get pushed aside by those which do. Just ask Compaq computers how they lost their position to Dell.

eBay purposely does not automatically give its customers the discounts when all the features in a package are individually selected. Shame on them for being greedy bastards.

So here is a perfect opportunity for Auctiva to add value: when I specify a title and a gallery pic, pop a dialog box or make it a configurable option to select the value pack for me to save me money.

Please reconsider your position on supporting the value pack option.

Thanks you again for the great free services!

so you can select value pack and not use the listing designer?

if so, perhaps auctiva could do a "if subtitle and gallery are both selected, use value pack option w/o listing designer in order to get discount price" ?

i've never used the value pack option, only time i've used both gallery and subtitle at same time has been for a few store items. but if one can do that (submit listing with value pack without using template), might be an option worth considering if ebay's API will allow it.
Max,

The customer support staff don't always know the exact reasoning behind why the site has features and doesn't have features. Sorry for the confusing answers you received up to this point.

It's definitely not anything to do with the fact the listing designer is an "ebay thing" and hence a competitor. Our whole site is in somewhat of a "work in progress" state. While we've probably got 95% of the aspects that allow a user to list items on eBay, we're far from that on the Post Auction Management end. With the first release of our site, we really wanted to get users familiar with our templates. The templates are one of the main things that seperates out listings posted with Auctiva from others on eBay in the eyes of the buyers. And while, yes I feel our templates are better than the eBay listing designer options, our long term goal is to make sure that all the options a person has on eBay are available on Auctiva.

The pro and value pack discounts that eBay offers are available to sellers using third party sites. Even though we don't specifically have a user interface for selecting those discount packs on our site, if you select the exact same options of the pack in your listing, eBay will give you the discount. Unfortunately, since we don't have an option for listing designer at this point, that discount pack can't be used via Auctiva.

We will be determining how we can integrate eBay's listing designer with our current template system and make both available on the lister page.

Although that doesn't solve the immediate issue, I hope that does clear things up a little.

The new button is actually apart of item specifics. After choosing a category, you should see a link for choosing item specifics right below the category options. Click that link and the item specifics window will pop-up and should have the option for "new".

If you find a category you feel should have this, but does not display the item specifics link, please let us know.

so ebay wouldnt allow using all but the listing designer and still get the discount for the "pack"? If that's the case, then one could easily argue both sides of the picture and can understand why would would make it less desireable to have it on here than if could use only part of pack. I know you said it's not about competitor thing, but nonetheless...
Wayoutwest,

Correct, you have to use each individual feature of the pack to get the discount. So, without the listing designer, you can't get a discount for just using gallery and subtitle.

I believe there is a way to use the listing designer without actually having a "listing designer template". That could be a potential workaround to the problem. We would still need to provide a way for this to happen on our listing page though. Or perhaps just auto-send eBay the listing designer field if we detect the other two features, but specific "no listing designer template".

Hope that made sense. Kind of brain storming here and I think I have a good idea... will have to look into it more when I'm back at the office.

Thanks for clearing this up. It seems to me, however, that there is an easy workaround which involves far less effort than integrating the two template systems: when an Auctiva user selects both the subtitle and gallery pic options, Auctiva can automatically select the listing designer option behind the scenes. ebay will then see this as as a value pack and give the appropriate discount.

Edit: Upon posting I see that this idea has already been suggested by you. Great minds think alike LOL.

This would definitely solve my problem. Do you think it would be acceptable to the rest of the Auctiva community?
