Upload OK but Xs in Select Image

I uploaded 34 pictures, which showed fine. Did one listing okay. Went to do 2nd listing and half of the select image boxes have Xs.

As a test, I choose 4 pictures for a listing. Two of the choices were with Xs. When I Previewed, one picture showed correctly which was one showing an X when I chose it. The other 3 previewed showed Xs. I filed a support case.
