why can't i figure out how to use my custom template for an ad

Hello all!!!
I guess I'm kind of new, but I've never posted. It's just that I've spent so much time trying to figure out how to navigate my way around the Auctiva Sight. My problem is this.
I've created 2 templates. Inserted all of the shipping, payment, about me, info. and saved the template under a name. My question, is how in the world do you use one of these templates to post a new listing? I can make a listing with one of my exsisting templates, but I want to use the ones I created because they have all of the descriptive information on them. I sure hope you can understand my problem and you can help me. This is so confusing and time consuming! But I just love having a store without paying ebay $15.95 per month.....I can't see how that would be an advantage to anyone unless they have tons and tons of inventory. Thanks for your help!
