WTF? ebay Toolbar says the Auctiva site is suspicious?!

I occasionally get that warning from Microsoft when using Auctiva..."you are about to be directed to a non-secure site". I always click yes to continue, but that bothers me too. I filed a support ticket but didn't really get a satisfactory answer. You're not the only one

what i got wasn't the microsoft warning. i've seen that too. i'm talking about the ebay toolbar (something that you can download from ebay) that was warning me about auctiva being suspicious.

interesting that the auctiva folks have never replied to my inquiry. hmmm.

I really don't know the answer but personally I'd be more leery of the eBay toolbar than Auctiva...

Although I don't know if it's really any worse than visiting eBay itself on a regular basis.

i've heard rumours about the ebay toolbar being spyware in the past. but it's convenient enough that i'm willing to take the chance. i especially like the way it notifies me 10 minutes before a watched auction ends!

the links you gave imply that the ebay toolbar is adware and will spam me with ads. i have yet to see this happen (although that's not to say that it can't or won't in the future!).

i used to have spybot search & destroy on my computer. i'm told it's a good anti-spyware program. it's SO good, in fact, that it once deleted my ebay toolbar and i wasn't able to EVER get it back on that computer!

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure there's at least one eBay toolbar extension available for the Firefox browser if you happen to use that...

The latest version of the ebay toolbar has been buggy for many people -- I know quite a few people who have uninstalled it.

I have the had the Ebay toolbar for months. Spybot and Adaware both have never complained about it. I ran it first on XP now on Vista, no issues ever complaining about Auctiva. Again Spybot/Adaware on Vista along with Microsoft's spyware checker nevered marked Ebay's toolbar is as spyware.

If it works for you and you're happy then that's all that matters in the long run.

I personally wouldn't have it on my computer..it's discussed way toooo much on the internet and download sites such as cnet by reviewers to what it places on your computer as far as tracking and more.

I use the same software you do...(minus the eBay toolbar) Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Blaster and even the Spybot forums discuss the eBay toolbar and what all is running with the add-on.

I also use FF browser the majority of time...and I haven't checked (there's no need to) there is no eBay toolbar for FF for security reasons.

Hello Suthrnjewl, I'm very new to Auctiva and noticed in your post here that you talked about Google Checkout and No Paypal fees. Is that if you are selling on eBay? I am pretty frustrated by all the fees I keep incurring on paypal with a sale. Or is that just a fact of paypal. Cheers, Melanie

Just a quick note for those interested in the GOOGLE CHECKOUT feature, it's only "FREE" until 2008, then they too will be adding fees of some sort ~ just so you know

Personally, I like getting the notices from eBay so I use the eBay toolbar, BUT, I disabled the eBay toolbar helper so I do not have the toolbar up on top. All I get are the notifiers,and with the antivirus I have running constantly, it warns me if there are ANY spyware, ad-ons, viruses, etc... on any page that opens anywhere anytime and will tell me out loud even and shut down the browser if need be and hasn't yet with the eBay toolbar without the helper running. I think running it this way it's ok to use. I hope this helps , by the way , the antivirus I use is free and it is called Avast! Would'nt be without it!
