I seem to be having a major problem accessing the auctiva website.

I have been using Auctiva for years and other than an odd glitch and listing something twice I have had no problems - I am IT literate and have read some of the suggestions left for users who have had similar problems. So I have cleared the Temporary internet files and rebooted the PC, amongst other things but no joy!

I cannot seem to get a connection via the address bar or links and I get the standard 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' messages every time.

What am I doing wrong - it has prevented me listing my eBay items for over a week, and I had thought the site was down but I doubt it has been out of action this long!

HELP & SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!!

Tracert. That should answer all your questions and more. Copy and paste the results form the command prompt here please. I'd also like to see what nameservers your computer is using. So perhaps copy and paste the ipconfig results here as well.

We've been up the whole time. You likely have a virus, spyware, bad DNS, or a problem with your ISP.
I have been having the same problem since last Thursday. I've tried everything - cleared cookies, deleted temp files, adjusted browser settings. I think it is my ISP that is causing the problem. My ISP is Karoo and they are currently having a problem with their Internet Router - could that be the cause of me not being able to access the Auctiva site? Someone advised to me click the help button on here, but that won't load either.
This is driving me nutty.....
Hi fromalisonsattic & SaintBernardsslobber, an ISP router or domain name server(DNS) problem would probably affect access to many other sites not just Auctiva.

(To de-jargon this reply - The domain name server translates a string like "Auctiva.com" into a numeric address for the nut & bolts of the system to connect your PC to the site you want to access. So if the translation does not happen the site will not be found.

And the ISP is your Internet Service Provider - the one you pay to connect to everyone else)

It is also possible for your PC to be hijacked if unprotected to be diverted to a rogue DNS first to allow dubious files to drop on to your PC and even prevent you from accessing the sites you really want.

I hope this helps Smile
Thanks Auctiva Mike for your response - but your advise didn't help as my problem was that I couldn't connect to Auctiva in any interactive way - if you had read my cries for help you would have realised that was my (and other peoples)problem. No worries, I'm back on now and the site is super. But the problem at the time was that I couldn't access Auctiva via any media, even the help site on these Community boards were not available to me or others. Turns out my access problem was due to my ISP (Karoo) and their lack of communicating that they had an internet router problem to their customers. I've come back to these boards to tell of the outcome for me, in the hope it helps other people in the future who may experience similar difficulties. Many help areas tell people to clear this that and the other, reduce security settings etc - which I did and spent many hours doing - when all the while the problem was a simple ISP issue. Frustrated does not cover it. Silver lining is thanks to the many on these boards that offered constructive advise:thanks to you all. Problem is I live in an area where Karoo has the monopoly on all telecommunications and I don't have the luxury of switching supplier.
