HA...no one will apolagise. Some folks will just grumble thier way through life.. Me myself and I just took the day off and I needed it. I had complete faith that the issues would eventually be resolved and that the auctiva staff would resolve them.... This kind of thing is bound to happen and does happen and auctiva has been just great and I have never had an issue and they sure didnt deserve the kind of poop slinging that was going on today Roll Eyes... I am sure they were stressed out as it was... Confused and even with no images to view I still made some sales Wink....I really dont know if I can ever do ebay without auctiva... anyway. Happy selling
I just sat back and watched it all as I do understand things happen. However this has brought on a lot of questions. I'm curious how auctiva decided Amazon was a good place to back our pictures up to. Considering this is ebays competition it seems to open possible doors to fowl play. Im not saying it did and I am not saying it would but just the fact it could and the fact it happened today makes you open your eyes. As much as this hurt the sellers this also hurt ebay and possibly auctiva. Realizing auctiva is free and a great site I still feel on edge with the fact Amazon is the image backup
I hear what you are saying but ebay playing shenanigans on that level would be met with legal action by a few watchdog groups. I am confident that it would take only one more foul act by ebay to be met with a stack of monopolizing papers similar to the netscape/microsoft mess. Anyhoo, rock on we're back baby!

They're to busy uploading photos and eating sh** pie right now.. Or, maybe they have packed up all their photos and moved them to ebay. Oh Wait! They have to pay for multi-photos. Silly Me!

Rock on Auctiva! WTG!
Amazon S3 is the storage contractor for a lot of sizable online operations, with a very high reliability record. Auctiva was not the only service affected - this outage also took out my photo backup service, SmugMug.

Thus, I don't buy into any 'conspiracy theories' on this outage. It was JUST an outage, pure and simple - which will happen on occasion to ANY service.

That is not to say, though, that I won't be waiting to read the findings of Amazon's investigation, with more than a little interest. I think a lot of us would like to know what really happened - which, given the length of the outage, was pretty major I'd say.

And I will join the call for all the 'griefers' - many of whose b****in' and moanin' I read today - to step up and apologize. After which, they should wash their mouths out with soap, learn a LOT more about what they're talking about, and get a life!
As I said I made no claim there was any intention to disrupt ebay listings. It is only that considering Amazon & Ebay are the biggest that Amazon is hosting such a huge amount of pictures that are being used for ebay. Its amazing that they even agreed to this. I didnt realize just how many auctiva users there was until yesterday when it went down. Throw in the fact that ebay rules read that listings can not be ended within 12 hours of end of listing it was a mess for big item sellers. Auctiva had no control what so ever and definitely not to blame. The point was its strange to see 2 sites like this with one having such power over the other. As for seeing what happened? Amazon can say whatever unless a 3rd party is doing the work.
Me Ive always defended auctiva anytime there were technical problems. Free is Free and like someone else said I dont mind what so ever to pay for the service because Its been extremely good to me.
Anyone that came in here and blasted auctiva for the pictures down I dont want to buy from and probably should find a new hobby besides selling on ebay. Free to some just isnt enough anymore.
Amazon S3's Preliminary Report:

7/21 7:19 PM PDT We wanted to share a brief note about what we observed during yesterday's event and where we are at this stage. As a distributed system, the different components of Amazon S3 need to be aware of the state of each other. For example, this awareness makes it possible for the system to decide to which redundant physical storage server to route a request. In order to share this state information across the system, we use a gossip protocol. Yesterday, we experienced a problem related to gossiping our internal state information, leaving the system components unable to interact properly and causing customers' requests to Amazon S3 to fail. After exploring several alternatives, we determined that we had to temporarily take the service offline so that we could clear all gossipped state and restart gossip to rebuild the state.

These are sophisticated systems and it generally takes a while to get to root cause in such a situation. We're working very hard to do this and will be providing more information here when we've fully investigated the incident. We also wanted to let you know that for this particular event, we'll be waiving our standard SLA process and applying the appropriate service credit to all affected customers for the July billing period. Customers will not need to send us an e-mail to request their credits, as these will be automatically applied. This transaction will be reflected in our customers' August billing statements.
