The amount they let us update is not on par with the size of Auctiva. Their quotas are built for midget sized developers. We need to work with them on that to find a solution, but keep in mind they move like snails so a speedy resolution isn't likely.

How does Vendio, Marketworks and Channeladvisor get by using these data quotas? Are they licensed for the API at a different level?

Nope. We are on a level playing field.

The API is ok for normal activity, but when you are behind (say from being down from moving) Wink, it becomes a bottle neck to keep up with normal/current activity AND to reconcile anything that was missed during the downtime.

Are there special API calls to deal with data lost or not collected during times of non-operation?

--------------

It seems then, if everyone (meaning the developers) is on a level playing field then there should be no reason to assume that functionality available to one developer isn't available to all.

For instance, items that I list through auctiva never get live bid updates in the Auctiva Store Window . There are other developers that seem to get that info into their "Store Windows" (flash galleries) and make that info available to prospective bidders right through the auction life-cycle. That is an area of functionality that would certainly enhance the user experience at Auctiva.
Anything that improves the user experience seems that it would tend to grow your user base .

There are no special calls, just the normal ones, but they are limited like everything else.

eBay limits our API calls, that is a 100% fact. I don't care what other companies do and I haven't asked them, and they probably wouldn't tell me anyways even if I did.

There are only 2 or 3 companies as large as we are to ask. Everyone else probably isnt limited because they're small enough that they don't need to update as fast as we do and they haven't hit eBays cap.

We completely understand Jeff. However, we do appreciate your replies while we are trying to wrok through any problems we may have.
Hi Jeff,
I'm relieved that you do not live on these message boards. I guess that would make me a little nervous.
I am glad to see that the Store Window now updates live bids.
Also, on the API quotas, I wouldn't have chased that one down- except for the blanket statement about midget developers. I do understand completely about how ebay does limit your data transfers; I only would like to see some of the same functionality that other services make available to their users. Maybe Phase II..
