Where can I find information about this Auctiva shipping insurance? What agency is selling it? What company is the underwriter? Most importantly I have learned - I got to make sure that the agency selling me shipping insurance has paid the State of Colorado Insurance Commissioner the fees required here - otherwise the insurance is worthless.

Please directly to this information.

Thanks!

Hi BTPS,

The insurance provisder for Auctiva shipping Insurance policies is U-Pic. for more information on this company, you can visit their website at http://www.U-Pic.com .

Thanks I was afraid of that. I had a policy with them. Went from a flat rate of less then $10 to $100 effective June 1 - so now I am looking for other options.

One thing I will say - U-PIC is NOT registered in the state of Colorado and according to the Insurance Commissioners office here that is NOT ALLOWED. They being the insurance agent can not sell to folks that live in this state - not legally anyway.

Hi mission-surf,

That box is optional. It is just there if you want to charge your buyers something extra for the same insurance coverage beyond our regular rates and only applies to Auctiva shipping insurance.

Hope that answers your question,
Auctiva David

DID you know that it's against ebay rules to charge a little extra?
WOW pointed this out to me just the other day -

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-shipping.html
"Sellers offering insurance may only charge the actual fee for insurance. No additional amount may be added, such as “self-insurance”. Sellers who do not use a licensed 3rd party insurance company may not require buyers to purchase insurance. This is a violation of state law. "

Wrong. U-PIC holds a Marine license. Therefore; they do not need to be licensed in every State.

Wrong again. I found out about this last week. eBay has added this rule in their shipping area. You are purchasing insurance via a licensed agent, therefore; you are fine. This should actually bring us additional business. eBay is now saying they forbid sellers to charge for insurance and pocket the premiums if they do NOT have a license or do not buy through a licensed provider (which our sellers do when they purchase Auctiva Shipping Insurance).

I think people are looking for reasons why our business model will not work... especially our competitors as they are getting pretty concerned with our success.

Auctiva Bill B. - Yes, I am aware that it is a Marine policy and that the carrier itself is licensed in the state of Colorado. HOWEVER, call the Colorado Commissioner of insurance yourself if you wish, as I am only telling you what I was told. In the state of Colorado the agency is required to be licensed here.

As for folks that claim to self insure - I have been telling them that's illegal in most states for 7+ years now. I do have a clue as to what I am talking about hard not to learn something when you would in the industry for 20 some years.

"I think people are looking for reasons why our business model will not work... especially our competitors as they are getting pretty concerned with our success."
If that statement is referring to ME, I have to laugh. I am not a competitors of yours. I make my living selling online, ebay mostly. And yes, I think everyone knows that Tomas of SpareDollar stated back in 2004 that there is no way FREE Auctiva would last and he can't believe what you all have done and continue to do here for FREE. BUT that's a whole different topic!

I don't get how you are interpreting "Sellers offering insurance may only charge the actual fee for insurance." to mean that sellers CAN CHARGE MORE if they use a company like u-pic or others that are out there.
