I ship some large and/or expensive items that need extra services like special packing or LOTS of insurance, or they are really big and I get big 'dimensional weight' charges. As the insurance charge is based on the sale amount, I would also like to be able to increase the insurance to account for the extra shipping charges I sometimes incur. I recently sold a clock for $2700 and that is the amount of insurance I get. However, should there be a loss, the cost of the shipping and special packing is not covered, and I think it should be. It cost $250 to ship this box. It only weighed 34 pounds but the box was big, so the dimensional weight was 139 pounds. This may be overlooked by many dealers.

For those cases you might want to check out these guy's.

I use them for all my Insurance as they are way cheaper tan Auctiva and insure the total sale including shipping and Handling. They will do a one time quote if you only need them once in a while

JeffInMonterey,

Because this question came up recently, I contacted UPIC, who is the carrier of Auctiva Insurance, to question them about whether the insurance purchased through Auctiva could cover shipments sent via LTL freight. UPIC had previously told us that we are not allowed sell policies that cover LTL.

However, after doing some research UPIC came back to us and advised that if you purchase a policy through us on a shipment via LTL freight through us, you will be covered, provided of course you meet the other terms they have (type of item, not shipped to restricted country, etc.) and that its OK for us to sell such a policy.

We are not out actively seeking LTL insurance business and don't plan to advertise it as LTL has a higher risk than USPS etc.

We would have given you a different answer if you asked a couple of weeks ago (and maybe you did), but this is the latest info we have.

Hope this helps clarify.
