I was notified of this by another seller (beth) and immediately emailed Dimitri.

Find his email below...it went live today.

Thought you all might want to know. I'm rethinking my ecrater stores. I don't know how this is going to work out. If buyers aren't registered couldn't they just bend me over by buying lots and never paying and then leaving negative. Yeah, yeah, big whoop..so what I can leave them negatives? Just doesn't work out right. You don't see this on commercial sites such as eddiebauer.com or crateandbarrel.com

Smells like yesterdays' dirty diaper.

Hello:

Happy New Year.

The feedback system is already live. It was launched today. Buyers can
leave feedback without need to be registered eCRATER users. Nothing is
changed in the check out process.

Sincerely,

Dimitri

If it isn't broken, don't try and fix it.

Foolish move on his part. If he wants to add a feedback policy, it should be one that works. Only registered buyers who have completed their sales (with a payment) should be allowed to leave feedback. To incorporate a 'free for all' feedback system that allows anyone carte blanche' to a seller's business reputation is more than 'unfair', it's irresponsible.

Cetainly, I will have to reconsider if I want an eCrater storefront which is open to a competitors attack, free or otherwise.

I have enough in dealing with the wacko buyers at eBay, let alone eCrater. Why not just 'pay' for a website? There are plenty of places that offer reasonable monthly fees. You're the boss.

I like, Dimitri and hope he reconsiders. Thinking this 'addition' through to its logical consequences and so forth.

Oh, by the way, happy new year! Smile
Happy New Year to you, too!

Beth (ironchick) and I have been buying from one another stores experimentally to try and see how this is supposed to work.

I had an invasion of buyers this past summer on ebay to the tune of over seven hundred dollars in malicious bids. They were all over my ecrater stores and that scares me what they could do, buy, leave feedback and then move on.

Will he pull malicious feedback? Will he follow through with Paypal tracking numbers? Will he actually want to follow thru with everything that an angry seller is going to be asking of him? Or an angry buyer that may send money, never receive product AND receive negative feedback for non payment..even if the seller did receive? (cash, personal check, money order, etc)

Opening up a can of worms. I just wanted a store..I didn't want another eBay.
<sigh>

Dirty Diapers I'm telling ya...I smell 'em how bout ya'll?

I hate it.

I heard back from Dmitri. He says that only buyers who have paid through PayPal will be able to leave feedback but I still don't like it.
The thing I liked about eCrater is that it gave folks without any html or programming knowledge the ability to have their own web store for FREE.

LandsEnd doesn't have feedback. I gave my eCrater customers the same service I give my eBay customers . . . and in return get repeat customers. I think adding feedback "cheapens" the site and makes it look like just another eBay wanna-be.

I already had plans to move my stores off eCrater to osCommerce stores this new year for other reasons (inventory control, merchant account integration, etc.).

I still hate to see this happen because I think it's just a bad, bad, bad idea.
