Evidently Auctiva cannot come up with enough money to buy the badly needed bandwidth for image posting. It's a daily problem and so simple to fix: Charge the sellers a few dollars a month for this service instead of overcharging buyers for insurance; gain the revenue needed and hire a server with more bandwidth than you'll ever need. Of all the high dollar items I sell on ebay, only 1% opt for the Auctiva insurance. They ask for, and I happily provide, regular USPS rates. And I don't blame them. Only the newer, unsuspecting buyers realize how much they're getting ripped off with Auctiva's rates. The person that designed this site is to be commended for their programming genius but whoever came up with the insurance scam and provides management, is something FAR less than smart. Or ethical. It's a great listing site and I don't believe anyone here would be opposed to paying for it.

Excuse me, but how did you arrive at the conclusion that Auctiva is "overcharging" for their insurance? Aren't their rates the same as USPS? How is it a "scam"? If they follow through on claims, that is relevant, and something we need to know. By selling their own insurance Auctiva is generating plenty of revenue and doesn't need to charge a monthly fee. My only problem with it is that my sales aren't showing up in my transaction file in a manner timely enough to allow me to purchase the insurance (that I now require) from them. Because of this auctiva has lost out on at least 30.00 of revenue in the last two weeks, and that's a lot more than I would have to pay another listing service.
Modoneit, I ask this with complete sincerity:

Why do you continue to use Auctiva if you think it is a "rip off" and a "scam" designed by someone "FAR less than smart or ethical"?

Here's another question for you...

Do you think that all other insurance companies are not-for-profit? Because I am pretty sure that all insurance companies are profiting one way or another.
I don't understand why you think Auctiva is overcharging buyers for insurance?

The postal service rate has been the standard for years and that's what I've always charged, whether I purchased insurance through USPS or elsewhere. Many sellers do that.

I don't use Auctiva's checkout, so I could be wrong on this one, but doesn't it charge the insurance rate you choose? You could offer the buyers discounted insurance if it bothered you not to.
uh,, have you guys ever checked Auctiva rates as opposed to USPS???You'll find quite a difference! That's how Auctiva makes money, or did you think these guys do it out of the goodness of their hearts? What's even more questionable than the rates is how do you think they'll handle claims???I have a feeling that no matter what the cause of damage, Auctiva will deny the claim. They have no control over handling yet they are self insuring shipments??And you think this is on the up and up??If so, I have a car, a bridge and some land in Florida you can buy!
If you've read my other posts, you'd know that I don't use Auctiva! My wife does, bless her heart, but I will not buy into the whole charade.
However, I do check in to see what others are saying about the site. It's a great listing site but oh so poorly managed. If they would just get their act together, find someone with some business sense and provide people with a site that meets its' potential (and charge the sellers, not the buyers) I'd be a happy customer.

Don't be ridiculous. Do you really think that you are the only one who knows Auctiva's rate vs. USPS?

Also, do you really think that you are the only one who knows that Auctiva makes money from selling insurance. ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES MAKE MONEY. Auctiva explicitly says that selling insurance is how they are able to keep the listing service free. It's no secret.

Also, do you know that Auctiva is not the only independent agency who will insure USPS shipping? It is not uncommon and completely on the "up-and-up".

Again, I wonder why you are here if you are so darn miserable.
FYI, to whoever said my wife is smarter: She is! We disagree about Auctiva and know this is nothing worth actually fighting about. The items I list don't require more than 1 or 2 pics so the free image hosting doesn't matter to me.
To Auctiva Whoever: Not me! I have owned several successful small companies, sold them a couple years ago and my wife and I enjoy a very nice retirement. We sell "stuff" on ebay as a hobby. It's fun( most of the time ) and a good way to share some of the many antiques we've collected and continue to but at auctions all across the land.

Instead of being so self righteous, maybe you could learn a little something from the many that offer you help and criticism. Your site is great, your attitude, however, shows why it simply won't work. The bandwidth problem has been ongoing for months now yet you refuse to do Whatever it takes to get the job done.
You guys must be from the liberal left media! Spinning a statement to your way of thinking doesn't make it true. I Never said insurance companies shouldn't make money. Everybody in business should make money, including DP, Halleburton, Exxon, etc. etc. What I said was that Auctiva's method of selling insurance to buyers is not working. The problem with their inferior image hosting bandwidth can be simply fixed with more money, which is evident they don't have.
Why, pray tell, is it that when someone offers to PAY for a service to make it right are they hammered by illiterates such as the last few posters???Makes ya wonder...
First of all... who's the one spinning stories? You were making some pretty bold and unfounded statements about Auctiva responding to claims earlier today.

Second of all... if you don't have a problem with Auctiva making money off insurance, why are you calling it "unethical" and a "scam"?

Third... Do you know what "illiterate" means? An illiterate person is one who cannot read. If I, or any of the other posters, were illiterate, we would not be able to respond to your comments. I am, in fact, very literate. I have a BA, a BS, an MS, and I'm 5 months from a PhD. I teach chemistry at a University and I have authored a textbook. I am a researcher for a quaint little organization - the National Science Foundation. Perhaps you have heard of them? Yes, I can read.

Fourth... If you do not use Auctiva, why are you offering to pay for it? And, oh, maybe you should know - WE DO PAY FOR AUCTIVA every time we use their insurance.

Fifth... If you don't use Auctiva, why are you offering it to your customers? That just doesn't add up.

Sixth... The saying actually goes: "And if you believe that, I have some swampland in Florida for sale." Nothing about cars or bridges. FYI, the bridges are in Brooklyn.
To MODONEIT, I'm a successful businessman with a BS and 2 AS's and I have to say thay you are completely unfounded, self-centered, and a fool to boot. Every post in this forum has utterly torn apart your claims and you have yet to fire back in a rational, well thought-out manner that would indicate any level beyond a 5th grade education.

To Auctiva Jeff: Do we really need to have someone in the forums like this? Might I suggest: ban?
Eekok doesn't it say also something about the seller makeing a % of the insurance ?i could be wrong and for your information ,it takes me sometimes up to four and sometimes more .was spending more on the listing then i was making !this is a god sent and i'm glade i found it,or i wouldn't be able to even list on ebay or anywhere else.i'm not the smatiest cookie in the jar,but i do know a good thing when i see it ,jeff & eveyone else at Auctiva keep up the good work!i need this sight myself.love ebay ,but can't stand too much moreon the fees.you must have alot more money in your pocket then i do.not to be rude ,but you can sped your money and i want to keep mine in my pocket please!!! Wink
I love Auctiva, and while I am willing to admit the occasional 'hiccups' sometimes want to make me pull my hair out, I just remind myself

IT IS FREE.

Thanks to Auctiva, I don't have to tangle with photobucket or html or worrying if my listings will sell because I can't afford listing designer and don't have time to list them on the high-selling periods.

The one thing I *do* wish they would do is offer a paypal link where thankful customers like myself can donate now and again. I don't use the insurance and I would like to contribute at least a bit now and again to show my support for this site and the guys running it.

1. you have no idea what you're rambling about.

2. This wasn't about a simple suggestion; you were quick to impune the service that you are so intent on using.

3. If you have a better way, method or business model, why don't you get going and offer your services to the planet.

Those who can - do, those who can't - bitch.

There are plenty of other auction services that are waiting with bated breath for your gems of wisdom. Check 'em out.

Whoa, champion. Dial it down a bit.

These replies aren't coming because you suggested that people pay for Auctiva. They are coming because you are an overblown, pompous, trouble-maker.

And before you go around criticizing other people's spelling, you might want to remember that the first word in a sentence is to be capitalized. Also, we put one or two spaces in between sentences. Either method is conventional.
If hes got money like that, he's sure not sharing with his wife. So why is she using FREE Auctiva? If it has all of the problems he states, why dont he pay for some other pathetic auction hosting service? I'm not saying Auctiva is pathetic. I like Auctiva. It's free, easy to use, and saves me money on multiple pictures and listing designer. Auctiva is not the best, but it's the best free auction host, right?
