Geting Specific Items displayed in Showcase

I have a lot of short term BIN usually three days, up to 100 a day.
There are certain one I want to have displayed in the Scrolling Showcase, but I don't want to edit the items every day.

Do promoted items take priority over normal items? would it be possible to create say 15 shop items and set these as the only promoted items I have and have them show up everyday for a month? and the normal BINs not displayed?

Changes are limited to: Store window>edit items.

Thanks Tom,
That seems to work a treat.
I have featured about 15 of my listings with longest to run and they are shown in the feature showcase.
I'm really impressed with Auctiva so far
