How do I turn on Item Description word-wrap?

Background: For setting up my description/Details profile, I create a template for the common Item Description text line headers in Word. I copy that data ‘Control C’ to the description box in Auctiva. I click paste Word, and paste using Control V.

That’s all good. My Word data carried over.

Next, when I create a test listing, I pull up a New Listing template, using that profile.

In the *Item Description area, I type in the auction specific text into the description field, and the text on a line just keeps rolling to the right. The text does not do a Return, or word-wrap within the description box. The results, in Preview mode, are a listing that is as wide as the text is on the longest text line. I have to scroll right and left to see the template.

Question: How do I format my Auctiva text box so that any text that I enter does an automatic return, and keeps the Template width fixed?

I am using a standard Auctiva Template with no modifications.

Hi Quest Sales -

My first reaction is to have you take the text from Word and put it in a text program like Notepad before you bring it over to your listing. Microsoft does some strange things behind the scenes which might be causing your text not to wrap.

If you do that and it doesnt work, switch the Item Description box on the lister to Text Mode, drop in your text and wherever you need a line to wrap put <br> - that is just a bit of HTML to force the issue.

Let me know if this doesn't solve you problem!

I followed your suggestion to create the text in Notepad. That exercise did not control Auctiva Item description box's width.

I did not use the html suggestion.

My issue is with any text typed into the description area not wrapping, so a forced html break at the end of a line is no different that my hitting the return button in any other entry mode.

If I open a new listing window, go to Item Description box, and begin typing, *any* line just keeps rolling to the right, expanding that text box. If I want to keep my template width within a range where my auction doesn't widen, forcing viewers to scroll left and right, I have to manually hit the return button within the Item Description box. If I manually hit the return while typing, making sure to maintain the original width of the text box, my auction templates don’t widen. (and that’s a good thing)

My question is can the Item Description box be forced to word wrap, forced to maintain a set width?

I don't want the width of the text box you provide me to change. As it is set now, as a default, that width will just keep expanding as I type, and my entire auction layout widens, being driven by that text box. (and that’s bad thing)

I keep getting back to this being something within the Auctiva description box settings, regardless of what I paste, or don't paste, that box, just as it is, won't word wrap. (For me)

So, I am looking for constraints that can be applied to the Item Description box area, to keep my overall template width within a set of parameters where my viewers aren’t scrolling left to right when looking at the auction
Hi Quest -

Well when I research this myself I copied and pasted into the box and it wrapped just fine. When I typed out very long sentences it wrapped just fine, but when I just help down one letter key - the wrap didn't work. It just kept going.

So, it looks like it is time for you to file a support request (at the bottom of the help page) to have our customer support team see if this is a technical issue on our side or yours. For now, it will remain forced breaks Smile
