Item Description Find / Replace or Bulk Edit

I agree with you 100%. Am getting ready to loose 1000's of items because I don't have time to edit out that I took checks. One by one is just too time consuming. Looks like it should be a simple fix on Auctiva's end and really was hoping to find it in their new and improved site. Maybe I'm just not seeing it.

Exactly. That is what happened to me. Well, since I had some definite issues with my listings, I did end up having to edit some of them. This is what I did (which was VERY time consuming):

1) Edit item details profile
2) Go into saved listings that needed editing and opened them one by one
3) In each of them, I would Copy (CTRL-C) the title, load the new edited item details profile, and paste (CTRL-V) the title back into it (since the item detail profile doesn't have a title)

Had to do that for about 1000 listings. VERY time consuming. Doesn't seem like it would be very difficult for the engineering team to program that into the Find/Replace options.

Just added it to the Requested Features page but seems like it will get lost in there with so many other requests. I think it's still pending...not posted yet. Look for it under "Find / Replace Item Description and vote for it. Hope we can get Auctiva's attention that way.

Another option would be to add an option in Find/Replace to load a new seller detail profile MINUS the title (so that the title in the saved listing remains the same).

Thoughts?

I still have not heard anything about this. Any updates on whether this will ever be possible? This is one of the main things that is missing with Auctiva that many other listing managers have

Any news on this? Auctiva? Any little tidbit of information? I have 2000 listings now that I need to edit some small details on but have no time to do them one by one.

We introduced a bulk live listing revision tool back in September that allows you to edit up to 100 active eBay listings at a time.
In addition, we recently made it possible to fully edit a closed listing before relisting it on eBay.

Hi- keep in mind, when using this. It will change the LIVE listing. It does not change the original SAVED template. So you still will have to do this twice if you want a permanent change on the LIVE listing and SAVED template.

I originally assumed it did both at one shot but it does not. . so thought I would pass my experience along.

Thank you Rebecca. Yes, I was aware of the live listing edit but had never tried using it. I just tried it now and noticed that there is an option to edit the DESCRIPTION field of the live listing. That is very good but, as lookandbuyme mentioned, this only works for active LIVE listings.

For Auctiva users that have MANY listings though (which I imagine there are a lot of), this does not help much because the SAVED listings are what need to be changed.

Also, it is not always just a word here and there that needs to be changed. Sometimes the formatting needs to be changed, pictures embedded into the description need to be changed and even pictures in the gallery need to be changed.

We need a way to be able to REPLACE the entire description field in SAVED listings. Instead of replacing the entire Item Details profile to do it, we just need something for JUST the Item description. Either add that as a separate profile that can be created or as an option in the Find/Replace page.

We also need a way to add or remove pictures in bulk to listings (I know you can replace them but not add/remove them).

Rebecca, if there are any of these features that you know of that are coming soon, please let us know. If not, these are features that have been requested MANY times in the past several years.

I know inkfrog does most of this. I don't think it would be a very difficult thing to add.

Haven't had a chance to try this feature yet, might need it in the future though. I agree it would help with the saved ads. My point is, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. whatever their shortcomings may be, I'm quite please with the features and service here.

I, for one, came from the "pond" ...just be thankfull that you are HERE and not THERE. Nothing but problems in the last few months (if you can even access the site!!!) Come december, I won't have an account with them anymore.

At least here I have been able to LIST!!! And I can actually CHOOSE to put my pictures wherever I want in my listing!!!

Take it from someone who knows. I'm lovin' this place, and i'm plannin' on stayin' (said with a thick southern drawl)

I need to make money, and I can't do that unless I can list on eBay nuff said.

With respect to the request that Automotive Style and others have for us to support bulk revision of saved listing descriptions, we will take a look at it and see what we might be able to do in a future site update.

Thanks for the input here. We will give some thought to what we can do on a bulk revise to saved listing descriptions and also images in a listing.

A couple of things: First, we just introduced a new advanced edit feature that lets you edit the description, template, and almost any other detail about a saved listing when you go to relist it. This feature only works one listing at a time so its not bulk, but it is one lots of folks asked us for. I would be curious as to why you feel a 'bulk' capability is needed, so please do post back any thoughts you have.

Also...re images...you can edit a saved listing and we have recently provided a 'remove all images' link that will drop all the images from a listing in one go, and an 'add more images' link. Again this is one listing at a time and not bulk, but if we were to build a bulk feature that updates several listings at once, how would it need to work? If you have more thoughts on that, please post them.

Lastly, you had asked Rebecca about new features we may be working on. In general, we are working on new ones...and we have a preference for doing features that plenty of people have asked us for. The more people who have asked about a feature, the more likely we are to undertake building it. If you look at our new feature request center http://www.auctiva.com/products/features.aspx this is where we expose ideas as to what we are thinking about and ask for votes from our users. Check back on this from time to time...we update this periodically as features get done and as new ones come on the radar screen.

I just wanted to revisit these requested features. You asked why we feel a "bulk" capability is needed to edit SAVED listing item descriptions. Here is my situation which, I believe, many Ebay users have a similar situation (which they seem to be trying to remedy with the new listing variations for certain categories:

My Ebay store has about 2000 items listed. They are vehicle accessories like floor mats, sunshades, covers, etc. These items have the same item description for each category but different titles (for each vehicle model, etc they are available on). For example, I have a profile for "Sunshades" on Auctiva. I would like to make a change to the item description to make it clearer, delete irrelevant information, etc. I can change it in my profile. But then I have to go to EACH SAVED LISTING one by one (about 300 of them) to load this new Item Details profile into it. This, then removes the listing title of the saved item and I then have to write it in again (or paste it back in if I had copied it beforehand). This is VERY time consuming.

I would imagine it would not be a very difficult fix. Having an option in find/replace that will allow you to replace ONLY THE ITEM DESCRIPTION from an existing ITEM DETAILS profile. Does that make sense? Not replacing the entire item details profile (ie. title, listing info, price, etc). JUST the item description.

The "Bulk Revise" option for live listings has something KIND OF useful. Allowing you to revise/change certain words of the description only is nice. But, if for example, I would like to change the formatting, color, etc of text I cannot do that. Or, if I would like to change the design of the entire item description. Also, why would this not be available for saved listings as well?

It may be useful for you to look at my saved listings to understand this better. Also, you can look at my Ebay store to see what I mean about same descriptions but almost 2 thousand different variations. Automotive Style

Another option could be having an option in Find/Replace to replace entire Item Details Profile with another one but NOT change the title (have a check mark stating whether it should replace title according to item detail profile or leave title as it is on saved listing). Make sense?
