When I try to Save or Post a listing, the Item Description disappears! I get an error message saying "Invalid Item Description." I can't get any listings done! Is there an Auctiva problem or an ebay problem? This was happening yesterday and again today, I haven't been able to post a thing! Seriously affecting my business, so few holiday shopping days left, I'm sooo freaked out!

I have been having the exact same problem with my item description disappearing when I save a listing. Also, all the descriptions have disappeared in all the saved listings that I created before this problem started. This has been going on for about a week now since Auctiva made the UK changes. Both Opera 7.5 and Internet Explorer worked for me before last week.. but now neither work (I don't use a Mac for this) and I haven't been able to post any new listings for a week..
since you already posted some of my auctions on a discussion forum, may I direct you to 3 you missed: Antique/Vintage ART DECO HANDKERCHIEF HOLDER Hanky Case, VINTAGE ROMANIAN CHRISTMAS TREE TOP Topper Ornament, WEST GERMANY Vintage CHRISTMAS TREE TOP Ornament topper.
The ones you noted were in fact created before Auctiva's system changes.
I asked someone who's a little familiar with JS to have a look, and he advised that the listing page started out written OK, but now some of the Java hooks? are screwed up. In any case the page isn't W3C compliant, which is why I had to (always) switch to user mode in Opera I suppose. He pointed out that cached stuff or virii aren't an issue, since he got exactly the same result and is anal about keeping his PCs swept, and never used Auctiva before. If you can resolve the problem, that's great since I like the site & features (except a lack of IP logging), but I'm already shopping for a new one because all this speculation and on-the-fly system tweaking isn't getting my listings up..
To recap, the exact problem is that the create / edit listings page doesn't save the "item description" text.
Tom, I thought I mentioned it has the same problem when using IE as well, but at least the HTML editor shows up. Apparently people are seeing a suspiciously similar problem while using Firefox anyway. Since you're not familiar with Opera, "user mode" turns it into a dumb, open screen - in other words, if your server echos my text back, I will ABSOUTELY see it, hide commands notwithstanding. Up til last week it did~then you made changes~since then it doesn't.
I did discover that it will post my text into an auction blind as you've probably discovered, which further puts the onus on Auctiva, no? As far as trying to accomodate every browser/OS combination, any developer will tell you that OS is irrelevant, as long as it can support the browser & Java/BHO apps. Concerning browser type, there is a standards committee for such things, and if you're compliant you have the best chance of working with most, and usually all of them.
To check for compliance, you might consider pushing the listing page into this utility: http://validator.w3.org/
Try it, and you will find no less than 100 (that's a 1 with 2 zeros!!) errors. In other words, this is total sloppy code, and the only reasonable course for Auctiva at the moment is to return the site to where it was a week ago, then fix the code offline (and ask the Jolt Cola team to validate it this time?)
I too SEEM to have this issue (at least on my browser). Can anyone else verify this? FYI, I'm using IE6, and have reduced cache as suggested in the above link to 100MB.

It appears to only affect one current listing, which you can view at this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6826290115
Compare that to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6825582679

Do you see such a Description on my ad (the first above)? If not, can I edit the listing's description without having to cut & paste HTML (since I'm only editing the top/ headline description, not the actual ad body)? Please help as the auction closes shortly.

The trouble as I see it is that when I compare my item to others, theirs show a Description (Brand, Model, Processor, etc furnished by eBay), where mine only shows my Auctiva store banner, then jumps to my ad. Several users have contacted me about basic details that should have shown there....

THANK YOU all. THis is certainly a learning experience...

EDIT:
PS: I ran the Validator Code Check and my ad page produced the following:
Result: Failed validation, 421 errors.
Hmmm....
Mindfull99: Actually your "Item Description" is present in both those auctions. What is missing is the "Item Specifics", so this is a different issue then the one being discussed in this thread Smile Did you set up the Item Specifics from the link that appears underneath the category on the listing page for that auction before posting it?

Yes, I did. But they didn't appear to transfer. If I "Revise Listing" in eBay, will I have to somehow copy & paste HTML to fill back in the main body of the ad, or will that remain unchanged.... I cringe b/c when I opened the Revise Ad page, the ad body showed blank, and my only option was to Save or Cancel Changes... I'd hate to try to add Item Specifics only to lose the entire ad body...
Thanks for you prompt response.
