Any time that I use a template this happens. If you take the source code from the listing and post it wherever you're listing directly and then try to edit it, the template look gets affected as well. What am I doing wrong? I get broken lines, picture loss, and parts of the template disappear. If for example you're posting on Google Base, there are all these strange x's and arrows. I've learned not to mess with them as they tend to make things worse, but it would be nice to know their function.

Am I going about this all wrong? Is there an easier way to take my items and post them other places?

Also, is there any chance that Auctiva could be a host to other sites listings? I don't have a website to put these items right now. It would be a lot of help.

Hi Cara,

I understand. But if you were to try it, is grabbing the source code probably the most reliable method of including the template and everything at the same time or is there a better way?

I do hope you'll expand out to other venues eventually. Many people are becoming disenchanted with ebay thanks to their high rate hikes and continuously evolving rules which tend to limit more than help members. Thanks for reading.
Hi, some things can be beyond repair whether built in hardware or software.

What I am saying is do you really need to spend so much time on a special template.

Have a look at the thread "Image Hosting -> To Supersize or Not?" my posting Posted 27 July 2007 12:50 AM and the follow up by ninth_wave.

Similar scenario, if templates and web pages were so easy to design there would not be a market for them.

I have also found that preview tools and HTML editors on eBay and Auctiva tend to get easily confused and do not exactly show what is going to appear on a live listing.

It also appears from postings from Auctiva support including in this thread that some special tags are used by eBay and Auctiva when they display or process your HTML.

So why make life so difficult for yourself unless you are more interested in an HTML challenge rather than selling.

The choice is yours, I know what I prefer. Smile

P.S. don't list it broken, you may end paying ebay fees and it looks a mess or fails to load on buyers PC's, not very impressive Frown

If you're talking about a standard template, perhaps, depending on how standard they are and how you've constructed your listing.
For example, just tried Auctiva's Liquid Blue Template on Google Base and it worked fine except it didn't like this unsupported code:
<STYLE> a.imagelink {color:#24478F;}blahblahblah </STYLE>

Deleted it and all was well.
My listing, however, only had a picture and a table in the editor box and that was all good with Base because it supports those tags.
From Google:

What types of HTML tags can I use in my item's description?
You may use the following HTML tags within your item's description:
A, ABBR, ACRONYM, ADDRESS, B, BDO, BIG, BLOCKQUOTE, BR, CAPTION, DD, DEL, DIV, DL, DT, EM, FONT, H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6, HR, I, IMG, INS, KBD, LI, OL, P, Q, SAMP, SMALL, STRONG, SUB, SUPCODE, TABLE, TBODY, TD, TH, TR, TT, UL, VAR
Please know that all tags will be checked to ensure they're valid. At this time, we're only supporting HTML in items posted individually through the Google Base form.
