Hi all,

So the new editor is so time consuming it's ridiculous... I format everything the way I want it, then when I preview it there are SOOOOO many spaces between paragraphs, it arbitrarily changes the size of my font on some sentences, and I have to keep going to the source to add and remove paragraphs... Is there something configured wrong on my computer or a system-wide issue?

VERY FRUSTRATING AND NEED HELP PLEASE!!

Hi!

I just went into my item details profile and changed the format to paragraph and saved the profile. I went to a new listing and it seems to have saved the format to paragraph. I signed out and back in to make sure it was still saved and it seems to have fixed the double space issue. yeh!!

Just thought I would post back and let you all know, in case you wanted to try it. I hope I'm not just imagining things. Wink
Great in theory Whiz. Unfortunately, I've found the most valuable information here on the discussion board, often from the Autiva support people themselves. Mike is especially helpful and handles our frustrations in a professional manner. I will pass along and appreciate any information gathered from experience with the new listing editor. It has been a very difficult experience. Support is also in a learning process and I have found that they also appreciate additional information picked up from the board. With our help and theirs, I'm certain we'll all reach a stage where the new editor is comfortable and less time consuming. Looking forward to that day. Great to hear of your progress Gail8180.
For those pasting text to Auctiva from Microsoft Word, make sure you are using the "Paste From Word" button in the description editor.

There are two paste buttons and only the one that says "Paste from Word" when you hover over it should be used for pasting your descriptions over from Word. The button has a blue "W" on it.

Let me know if that helps things out. It should definately resolve the "extra space" issue a lot of people are having.

Hi leahyrlw,

I agree that alot of information can be gathered from the forums, I offer as much advice and help as I can, but in the case of the New Editor it is plainly not working correctly. There are still many bugs in the programming that need to be fixed.

Rather than everyone trying to find a way around the bugs and becoming complacement with a faulty programme, we as users of this software should let the programmers know that there are serious issues with it.

If we do not contact the help desk with problems that arise they will imagne that NO problem exists, and so goes the cycle that frustrated users trying to make a faulty program work will be constantly ranting and raving in the forum as to "why it isnt working correctly."

You mentioned that Support is also in a "Learning Process" are you referring to the programmers of this software ? I hope not.

Hello Kevin,

I do not paste from word. I type directly into the description editor box.

I have custom templates with pre-defined font styles, text size, color etc... The editor does NOT pic up the font styles from the custom templates.

It also inserts extra html coding, creating a huge white space after the description ends. I looked at the source and it inserts 4 lines of breaks and centers for some reason. ?

It also makes huge gaps between words. When you press enter it gives you a paragraph space, rather than a line break ?

And sometimes it does not even see that you entered a paragraph and pushes the whole description into one huge mass of wording without any spacing.

Every auction I make I now have to spend at least 15 mins on, editing and messing around with the description to make it readable.

Can the programmers fix it by adding a br html code rather than a p for paragraph code, when pressing enter. That might sort out some of the issues.

Thanks

Carol.
Hi Everyone, Im no expert on the matter, but I will say this. I have yet to find a text editor that works well with copy and paste other than one I have placed & used on my own machine.

What Im saying is that I have never used one "online" that didnt have some kind of problem, except one's like ebay's little rinky dink editor that has almost no options and even when I copy and paste to ebay's editor it changes the text size and sometimes wont let me change it after I have pasted it.

It just been my experience so far, that any editor worth anything seems to have troubles when used online.
Are you sure your HTML you are pasting in from Turbo Lister is correctly formatted HTML? The times I have seen this the cause has been from bad HTML. The extra paragraphs are added by our editor when it attempts to correct the broken HTML.

The editor we use was programmed by a company that specializes in just that one product. I can only assume they've seen this before and the way they make the corrections is the best case for the HTML they are given as input.

Paste in a practiceboard.com link to the exact HTML you are copying and pasting. Or there are many HTML validators on the web, search Google. Or try pasting into another HTML editor like Frontpage and then saving it and copying and pasting it from there into our program. Frontpage or another editor may do a better job at correcting the bad HTML.
