Well...maybe not! It must be a work in progress and I jumped the gun. At this point I can change my old templates so they use two identical image url tags e.g.
<a href="[IMAGE1_URL]"><img src="[IMAGE1_URL] width=140 border=0"></a>
It will "update" without giving me the red warning about two tags, but it doesn't save the changes. Making a new template from scratch with two tags will not save and gives me the red warning.
Oh, well. I told you I get anxious when Christmas comes in November.

I have just tried again to place more than 1 of the same image tag. BOO HOO it still gives me the error message. "You can not have more than one of the same image tag" blah de blah . Then the whole thing went poof ! and all my code was gone ?
Its now 6.42 pm EST time. Maybe I am jumping the gun to try this code so soon. I am just eager to try it out. Anyone out there managed to do it yet ? If you did, what image tags are you using ? maybe I did it wrong..

Avast! The first thing to jump out at me is that all your "img src" codes have the word "/listings/" ahead of the [IMAGE#_URL] tag. That won't fly, m'dear. The way to avoid getting that put into yer code, is to take yer whole template HTML code and paste it directly into the text editor, and save it right immediately. Don't switch to the design editor and don't try to preview it. After it's saved, you can go ahead and edit it **in the text editor** but don't never switch to the Design editor. It's that slab-sided barnacle-encrusted rotten sod of a design/html editor what puts the unwanted code int there.

There is another question I have on this subject. CB mentioned not to view the template in design view or preview. Otherwise it adds on extra code. I asume ? you mean when I am creating it Capt.
So, when I have made a new listing and connect the template with the listing, I press "save template " and it adds it onto the listing. Then I really like to PREVIEW before launching or scheduling my auction. I am having a hard time just listing without previewing anything.
Is it ok to PREVIEW at this stage ? just before you launch it to Ebay ? or will it mess up again and add on extra code ?
By the way I have just posted a new post about a major problem I have just encountered when creating a custom template. (see new post in custom template site.
And now I am going to hit myself with a limp noodle.. and go and cry in the corner ... sigh... I will not be defeated lol... try .try and try again..

Preview on the listing page cannot change your template code, so preview it there to your hearts content!

Well, I'm back again. Sorry to keep posting here but I just can not get this template to load the images.

Yep, like Dave says, the place to preview your listings is on the listing page when you're making a new ad. I probably didn't differentiate: It's the Design/HTML editor on the create or modify "template pages" that likes to put in extraneous text. This is not a problem unique to Auctiva. In fact I can't think of anyone else with a WYSIWYG editor that doesn't mess up your code to one extent or another. It's the nature of the beast. I know that SD, Vendio, and Poster Toaster all have that problem. For that matter, so do the big WYSIWYG web-page creators, including Front Page (horrible!), Dreamweaver, Trellian, and on and on.
(Climbs on soapbox) To me a WYSIWYG HTML editor is kind of like these do-it-yourself incorporation, last will and testament, and divorce kits you see at Staples. They are designed to attract those who know not what they do - and they do work: a. occasionally, b. to a certain extent. But, just like these legal shortcut kits, WYSIWYG HTML can come back to bite you in the stern sheets. And, just like a do-it-yousrelf last will, if you want to be really free from all worries about whether it will work right, ya gotta do it the old fashioned way, by hand. (Climbs down, picks up soap-box, attempts to explain to wife just exactly who he was just talking to down in the basement).

You would need to use the [IMAGE_URL1] type tags.
Then you'd need to do something like this:

That would show an image that is 140 pixels wide, and link them to the full size image if they clicked it.

I have just finished tweeking my 140 thumbs template and will most likely post it to share.
It took me some time to get it jusssstttt right.. wish I could remove the blue boarders though, oh well can't have everything. Great idea by the way on putting up a sticky for shared templates. !!
I am having too much fun making templates and not listing auctions ... lol maybe I should list templates for sale instead...
Wish you could fix that design view ! that would make life so much sweeter. I'm doing all my editing in the practice board.

Don't even need to do that, swabbies. Just paste "border=0" (without the quotes) somewhere in each <img> statement, like this, for example:
<img src="[IMAGE2_URL]" width=140 border=0>
Or, if ye wants to change to a fancy border, like this swanky cap'n, ye can do it with the following CSS style statement:
<img src="[IMAGE2_URL]" style="width:140px;border:2px outset #cccc00;">
In this case I jest added a 2 pixel wide border, of the "outset" style (has a mite o' a shadder to it) and the basic color is a gold (#cccc00). It will be a different shade of gold depending on what slab-sided ol' browser ye sees it in, because them bilge-water rats at MS and NS and Moe-Ziller can't see eye-to-eye. Well, it is hard, with this consarned eyepatch, I gots to admit.
Now, mind ye: them punkchyation marks are different between CSS and reglar HTML. SO...keep a sharp watch on the colons versus the equools signs, and setcher quotes like the Cap'n sets his. And avast that ye don't get yer colons and sem-eye colons mixed up neither.
Other bits ye can put in yer style statement include: margin:4px; to keep 4 pixels of open water around each image. Ahh. Arrrr. There's a bunch o' others too, but me doesn't wants to overflow your noggin right now. Actually -- I need a little shut-eye.
Now shove off. And turn to with some comely templates fer us to goggle at!

I don't know why but that only works in some of my templates and not others. I think one with regular HTML are fine but use CSS or java and it doesn't work.
I'm hand coding to make my own borders but it would be nice to have the option of using some of the other tags and not having the border

Ok, I may be a little behind..can someone catch me up to speed please. We can now list with the smaller thumbnails like SD? Can we still have one larger picture and the rest thumbnails? If yes, what would that code be? ALSO how would you go about writting text under the pics so people know to supersize them. I am just starting to understand this coding stuff. I can make templates but these picture codes I just can't comprehend. Maybe if someone could list a template on photobucket I could "see" what the code looks like. Thanks for all your help!! I am very excited to know we can use smaller thumbnails now!!

Tom was able to get the techies you let us use 2 image tags in the html editor. Before when you tried to put the same number image tag in the html it did all kinds of crazy things.
Anyway, this means we can now write our own image code and produce smaller thumbnails. You can have any size you want, but you have to hand write them into your custom template.
Here is one I made yesterday using the image tags. I posted it under the Free Template To share post. I made 2 ~ one blue and one green. Theres more there now.
