Hello

I am new to Auctiva. I have been playing around with Auctiva for a couple days. Today was the first time I tried to make a real listing and I have to say I am very frustrated. It seems you have to predefine everything you want to do into Profiles before you can create your listing. I find this extremely irritating and time consuming, switching from one area of the site to another.

As a suggestion, and for my personal taste, I would much rather have every aspect of a listing on a single page. As I build my listing, moving from section to section, I would like the opportunity to save that area as a template or profile if it will be used again. Also I would like the opportunity to save the listing as a whole if it will be used again without changes. I do not mean a page a mile long with everything visible. Having each section with a Show or Hide button so you can expand or collapse the are you need to work on as you go.

You have a good product I just feel it needs a bit more customization.
Thank you, David

Hi, you only need to use profiles if you are building many listings from common components.

Like having varying shipping details for various size of objects, or different checkout options for items with global or restricted to local postage.

It would be cumbersome to use profiles for the occasional listings but once you have set up a structured set of templates, seller details, profiles and master profiles it certainly speeds up the listing process.

Using profiles is really a very high level of programming and should be structured, casual creation of the building blocks is not a good idea, like having 100's of files in folder.

I for one find the set up very good but then I have been a professional software engineer. Cool
I agree with ChooChooGuy.

It did take me a few days and a lot of trial and error to get my profiles and seller details sorted. But once this is done it makes it so much easier and quicker to list new and similar items. I've also found Auctiva more reliable and much faster than listing on eBay which seemed to crash or take me to random pages quite often.

I would however like to suggest an improvement for the picture editing. That seems very cumbersome if you want to resize, crop, & rotate the same image you have to go in out of of lots of screens for no apparent reason. I tried doing all this in Adobe Photoshop first, but then my pictures looked grainy. I'm not a professional software engineer, I just did 'A' Level computer studies in Pascal programming which was an obselete language at the time I was learning it! Anyhow, I'm sure they could make this easier if they wanted to.
Hi Super_Flautist, Pascal still has its use at an educational level for youngsters for as a pro s/w engineer who grew up with it and moved on to currrent langauges and one who has a teenager who did the same A2 recently can atest

Otherwise most new starters will get bogged down to quickly in OOD techniques and Windows forms, J2EE and the like and sink without trace. Smile
Well it's nice to know that learning Pascal wasn't a complete waste of time. I did also meet my husband at college on the same course. So now I'm really lazy and get him to "sort out of the internet" when it stops working. He also knows HTML etc. One day when I not at the office, teaching, practicing or online I'll learn HTML myself!

You lost me on that bit Wink
