Just another example of how eBay doesn't care about the small seller. How on earth can there not be a simple way to obviate the need for the sense of hearing in order to become an eBay seller? How typical of them. Certainly there is technology out there eBay could employ to assist the deaf. What a shame this person had to go to this extreme length of filing suit, just to make some income.
I'm astonished. I would think ebay has a room full of lawyers. If they do, they're obviously incompetent. How could they allow this suit to actually be filed? It's a clear violation of the ADA. This would be similar to ebay having a rule requiring sellers to be white males, at least 5'8" to sell on ebay. There was such a simple solution of e mailing the information to her. Instead, ebay chose to treat "everybody equally." This will be a very expensive lesson for them. Ebay should be offering a massive settlement, not defending themselves against the indefencable.
OMG!!!! THAT'S HORRIBLE! I'm sorry, but this was coming to them, they just had to know soon that this would happen and for them to do this to this poor person, my gosh, they deserve what they get! What a darn shame!
I have received several phone calls from 'Hearing Impaired' individuals. They used a system that involved a translator, who spoke to me. I can't remember the system's name, but recommend this person looks into this service. I *think* the person typed their part of our conversation, and the translator read it to me.
I feel for this individual, and know 1st hand, since 1998, of Ebay's lack of customer service.
Lynn: The system you may be referring to requires the company on the other end to have the system also. So it would involve Ebay to spend money to accommodate the hearing impaired. This should not even be a problem and should have been thought of in the very beginning of starting up. I also believe there is a system with a translator, but knowing Ebay they probably would not accept that either since I think they record the conversation and what use is there to record a canned voice. I know there are ways for Ebay to do this, they just thought no one would notice.
