I'm sure someone has stumbled upon this before and discussed it.. but a few weeks back while RE-listing an item for the "umpteenth" time I thought about how unfair it was that eBay.. when implementing their "free relist" policy (NOT really free.. unless of course your item DOES sell on the FIRST relist [i.e. 2nd listing].. and even still.. you're only refunded the second listing fee.) ONLY applies it the 1st relist. In other words.. If you initially list something and it doesn't sell.. then you relist it again.. either sticking to your original price ot lowering it.. and it sells.. you get a refund of the second insertion fee.

The catch is.. if you go and relist that item from within eBay again.. a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. time.. you never get a refund again. Something eBay really doesn't emphasize (for obvious "eBayish reasons Wink ) and most people don't notice or give thought to. This.. of course.. adds up. If you use Auctiva's new internal relist function.. the same applies because it's submitted to eBay AS a relist (a function all of you screamed for.. but a double edged sword).

Sooo.. I came acrossed this idea. Everytime I want to relist an item.. or I should say.. every OTHER time.. if I want that free relist option to go in effect on the EVEN listings (2nd,4th,6th,etc.) the solution is simple. Make a NEW listing on every ODD one (on 1st.. of course.. 3rd,5th,etc). Of course.. then they obviously aren't "relists" in the truest sense.. and you may be thinking.. "Isn't that a lot of extra work?".

Nahhh.. instead of going through the entire creation process again.. simply go into your "saved" listings folder (provided you haven't deleted the original one) and use the "create similar listing" button on the right. From there.. you can even re-edit the listing.. lower your price, etc. The difference being that when you submit it to eBay this time, they will see it as a new listing (provided you don't "save" the similar listing over the old one first and then submit it) and therefore.. you'll get a relist credit offered you again!

Remember.. just DON'T use the "relist" function EVEN within Auctiva (works for the first relist though.. obviously).. or it won't work. You must simply create a new, but similar listing from your original saved one.

well, that was obvious to me at least, but after the second time I give up on the item, have a garage sell or something. But the relist refund doesn't make any since to me, why waste your time on relisting a un-sucessfull item 4-5-6-7 times, it would probably be worth more if you break the item apart and glue it to a cardboard and call it art. But what Im saying is its stupid to relist if you its not selling

Hi scorch - You are right, you do have to repost as a new listing every other time in order to stay eligible for the credit. However, I see no problem if you 'save' your revised listing over the old one, or if you just repost your saved listing without changes. I see no need to 'save as new'. Why wouldn't ebay see it as a new listing no matter what? Your caveat seems to imply that ebay tags your SAVED listing with the item number when first posted and is thus able to recognize it the second time around, treating it as a relist, rather than a new post. In other words, I thought the item number only attached to the active listing, but not the saved listing. Isn't this why we have to 'relist' from either ebay or the CLOSED folder, rather than from the SAVED folder? Smile

Hi winkelstore - Unfortunately I have had more than one occasion to relist an item multiple times before it eventually SOLD. Depending on many factors - it may be necessary to lower the price until it sells, or change the category, pictures, description, or any number of things. Or maybe the sell-through rate on a particular item is just naturally low due to the market for that item. My point is that scorch makes an important point about how to stay eligible for ebay's elusive "credit", for those who might not be aware of ebay's 'first relist only' policy, and are stuck with that pesky item beyond the second listing. I do however acknowledge your point about knowing when to quit. Smile

Actually I had forgotten about the extra $0.10 when I asked the question. That would certainly deter me when it is just as easy to schedule it from your saved folder. Thanks for reminding me. Of course this only applies to a 'repost', not a 'relist', since if you want to SCHEDULE a 'relist' you still have to do it through ebay. What a confusing mess, I'll be glad when Auctiva finally allows scheduling relists through their site.
