PLEASE ADD your ideas to the list!

Promoting your store and making it popular in internet is not an easy process and it takes time. Here you can find some basic suggestions:

1. Submit to search engine directories

* google - http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

* Froogle - we submit all products to Froogle so there is no need to post your website there

* yahoo - browse through yahoo directories - http://dir.yahoo.com/ and when you find appropriate directory click on the link "Suggest a Site" (at the right top of the page)

* msn - http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

* dmoz - browse through dmoz directories - http://dmoz.org/ and when you find appropriate directory click on the link "suggest URL" (at the top of the page)

2. Join forums

Forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website. But another important note to look on is making sure the forum is somewhat related to your website. You will still get credit if it's not, but if it's related to your website then you will be accomplishing two tasks at once.

3. Google Adwords

Google Sporsored links are another excellent way of promoting your web site. They are paid but the good things are that you get "quality visitors" and that you pay only per click.

4. You can use the link below to list in many free non-reciprocal SEO Friendly Directories

5. Another link containing many free web directories

6. Create a blog. They're free and you can put anything you want on them. For a free blog; http://www.blogger.com/start

7. Provide a link to your store in your e-mail signature. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a link. People will click on it.

8. Get a domain name - redirected that domain to your store. Advertise that domain name.

9. ebay ME PAGE link --- Do not link on auctions or store ads, that's not allowed!

10. Put logos on Tee-shirts etc with your URL. Wear them to events with tons of people, even just to the Mall or grocery shopping!

11. Include your URL in every package you mail out!

12. Get a yahoo360 page and connect it with other sellers and yahoo groups! FREE http://360.yahoo.com

13. Get a MSN Space - FREE http://spaces.msn.com/

I'm currently looking at yahoo adwords myself. my ebay store's main product, if you search on yahoo by brand name, I'm in the #3 spot if you spell it correctly, #2 spot if you use most common misspelling. So, no worries there.

BUT, if you add product type to brand name, I'm on page 2. And, if you search solely by product type, I'm way deep in the results (looked through 10 pages and couldnt find me). A big part of that is because of lots of competition on same product line. And, of course, there's simply getting it optimized to show up in top results.

So, for product line i'm considering adwords. That way will at least get in the top in the advertised section. Dunno how cost-effective it will be, but worth a try.

For yahoo adwords, there's a good beginners tutorial on it at http://www.ebayuniversity.com/features/ebay_live_2006/?ssPageName=CMDV:AB# Select the Pay-Per-Click Success video (plus tells you how to see which keywords people are using when searching for your stuff and even tells you how many searches were conducted on those keywords in the past month!)

Of course, Google is where it's really at, but can use some of the knowledge gained in video for Google too. Only thing about google is they wont tell you what your competitors bid on keywords. (whereas yahoo will). For Google, you can get a general idea what people are searching for by using this tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal?defaultView=2 and selecting "Global Search Volume Trends" in the dropdown box

It's helpful folks...use it!

Thanks again Steve,

for anyone considering buying yahoo adwords

(which I dunno if worth buying or not, would prolly depend on price, type of product, and how low you already rank in searches)

Just got a flyer in the mail from yahoo and they have a sign up for "sponsored search" (adwords) and get a $50 credit.

Dunno if there's other better offers out there or not, and dunno when this one expires.

For this one, visit sponsoredsearch.yahoo.com/growbusiness or call 866-878-4607 and mention promo code USDM0099B

Like I said, dunno if better promos out there or not, so might search around first before signing up. And, like I said, signing up might not be truly worth it for some.

Oh, fine print on flyer says that you have to put in $5 of your own money and that the $50 is credited to your account on yahoo and cannot be cashed out. There is also minimum bid requirement of $0.10 per click-through.
