How do I get out of Auctiva? It is too hard for me to understand.

My problem is that after i have put everything into it, I can't seem to figure out how the postage works and I couldn't find anywhere to go for help, but lastly I came here and maybe with help I can get this going. I've been trying to get this up for two and half months now and it's hard for an old woman. ha Thanks

So, have you sold something, and now you need to buy postage for it?
Auctiva doesn't automate postage and shipping - that's one of the things you have to handle on your own. Most eBayers use PayPal's shipping tools, as they are relatively convenient, and free to use (aside from the cost of postage, of course). When you're looking at your sold item in eBay, you can choose to ship the item, and you'll be linked to PayPal shipping from there.

Thank you all for responding.....i.e. I haven't sold a thing....the last part of the form is really hard for me to understand like right now I have it where you can buy it now....but after that comes Shipping tools? Checkout options? Shipping tools I have as Flat Rate but where do I go from there to figure out how much?

Mary, the first thing you need to do is buy an inexpensive scale on Ebay..you're not allowed to up your shipping price if you make a mistake. I found a great link in Ebay where you can figure out weightand prices:

Remember one thing..if it's a small pkg, 13 oz or under, you can ship first class and it's not expensive at all. You can also just drop it in the mailbox. If it's a pound or over, it will have to go to the PO. I think you better do some reading here:

I have a scale and I have weighed it but how do i put that all together with the product. Do I have to add it into the price of the article in which I am selling? So in essence, in your mind just add it to the price of the product? and would you call that Flat Rate?
Another thing, can anyone see my setup before I put it to EBAY?

Let me deal with your last question first - 'Another thing, can anyone see my setup before I put it to EBAY?' - if by that you mean can anyone on eBay see the listing you are creating, before you actually post it, then the answer is no, they can't - so you can fiddle around with it to your heart's content without any ramifications. OK on that one?
On to the main problem. So, you have weighed your item, and have calculated how much the shipping, or postage, cost will be, yes? (if not, then that's your next step) OK, let's assume it will be $5 (I'm assuming you are in the US ) to ship within the US, and you do not want to ship outside the US.
You now need to click the 'Maximise' link alongside the 'Shipping Tools' section heading. Now you have a large form area to fill in. The first part is simple, identifying where you are. The next part is where you specify where you will ship to - in our case you will tick United States (right hand option on the top row). Next select Flat Rate Shipping (you have to have that one, as the only other option is Local Pick-Up).
Now you have an area in a grey background, first heading is Domestic Shipping Services. In the first drop down window, alongside where it says 'First Domestic Service', you select whatever Postal Service Option you are going to use (whatecer you used to calculate your cost earlier). Then alongside that is another box, for the actual cost, so just type 5 in there (without the currency symbol, which should already be there outside the box). Leave the next box (Additional Item Cost) blank. Don't bother putting anything in the next area down (International Shipping). Now you are at the Auctiva Shipping Insurance section. I can't talk to this I'm afraid, as I can't use it in the UK - so I suggest for the time being, until you are more au fait with using Auctiva, that you disable Auctiva's shipping services, and in this section click either Not Offered, or Included in S&H (in which case make sure the cost of shipping you used earlier does include Insurance). To disable Auctiva Insurance, go to 'My Account', then Auctiva Shipping Insurance Settings, and then deselect the option at the top of the page 'Use Auctiva Shipping Insurance'.

I live in Washington state I have at my disposal Fed Ex and the USPS.

Under the 'Ship' option, select 'Get Rates and Transit Times'.
Put in the relevant information and click the Get quick quote button.
For USPS, go here - http://www.usps.com/
In the red header at the top of the page, the 2nd link is 'Calculate Postage' - click that.
Then click Calculate Domestic Postage.
Then enter all the details as with FedEx, and click Continue. I assume the price will appear, I haven't done it myself, as I don't know any US ZIP codes.
A possible problem with this (and one of your US compatriots may be able to help here) is that you need to enter the destination ZIP code to get the quote, and of course you don't know it yet, so I'm not sure what folk normally do for that.

If I do flat rate shipping, I generally figure out what it would cost to send something to Zone 8 (California and the west coast), which is the most expensive for my location. I use 90001 for the zip code. If you're in the west, you might try a New York zip to figure out what it would cost. Try 10013.
From there, you can figure out your worst case scenario as far as shipping costs, and adjust what you charge accordingly. Generally, I will charge the worst case cost, then refund a part of the shipping cost if someone very close buys the item. We generally ship very light items, though, so the difference in costs between California and New York usually isn't that great. This seems to have worked out well for us... but we don't really do a lot of business on eBay anymore.

Your s&h price will show at the top just as it would on Ebay.
Mary, as Miss M says, you can preview your listing (it will pop up in a new window, and should appear just as it will on eBay - but no, there is no check that you have calculated your shipping correctly (nor is there on eBay, I don't think?). What you could do is make your calculation, and then before posting your listing come on here and let us know what you are sending (weight wise), to where, and how much you have calculated, and one or more of us will double check for you.
You can also choose "calculated shipping" instead of "flat rate" or "pickup only". Then you would enter the size and weight of the package(This opens up when you check that option) and when someone is looking at your item they would get a shipping calculator for that size and weight from your zip code to theirs. Also you would want to be sure to go to the vey bottom of the shipping area and put in an amount for Packaging & Handleing fee. You should do this no matter if you use Flat Rate or Calculated Rate. This is whatever you have to pay for your time, cost of boxes etc. Unless it is a large item, usually a buck will cover it. This will then be added to whatever the calculated postage is when they use the shipping calculator. Be sure when you are weighing your items, that you weigh it in the box you are shipping it in. The box can add a lot to the shipping weight. Also you might look into Pitney Bowes for a meter. They usually have a 3 month free trial. I do that and then just put my packages on top of my car in garage with a note in the mailbox to pick up packages and my mailman takes them daily and I never have to go to the post office.

There's something not right there Mary, I can't find that by searching on the Item number, and I should be able to do that even with eBay's indexing delay.
Click the 'My Account' tab up at the top, then immediately under that tab, click the little 'Events' link. In the list of events, see if any are showing as red, and/or displaying as an error. I don't think your listing has posted. Let us know.

Regarding the API error, that means that when Auctiva attempted to postthe listing to eBay, eBay rejected it, for the reason stated. In this case, it sounds like you are trying to list a BIN, or Fixed Price, but eBay are saying you are not allowed to do that, and I would guess that is because you currently have less than 10 Feedback - is that correct?

Mary, your option would be an auction. You need 10 FB per Ebay policy to list a BIN.
BTW, handlep is from the United Kingdom so he's not familiar with Craigslist (actually neither am I, never look at it)
If I may make an observation...you're trying to do an awful lot for someone so new. Slow down you will only end up confusing yourself even more. List directly thru Ebay, at first, to get an idea of the way things work. Then maybe try to do a listing thru Auctiva. I think you're in way over your head...
EDIT - we cannot hold your hand throughout the whole process...We all learned on our own,you can too. Check like items on Ebay and see what they are going for, price AND shipping cost to get some kind of idea. Try one or two auctions. Get your feet wet first, and go from there.
