USPS does not provide insurance for first class international shipping. Does the auctiva insurance still cover this?

The question seams to be answered, but I am skeptical. International First Class Mail is not trackable unless you purchase Registered Mail.
I guess what I really mean to ask is, what's the catch?

Let me put one interesting twist on that assertion. The US Customs Form on the 1st Class International package is scanned and tracked in the USPS system. In fact, you can enter the the number at the USPS Website Track and Confirm and it will provide the office, date, and time it entered the system. USPS actually tracks the package beyond entry, but doesn't normally provide that info. I had a package take an odd detour on its way to Canada and my local post office had a whole sheet of printout on its where-abouts (that they only let me glance at). My guess is they may even track across borders with some countries, since 911.
BTW....I use to message an International Buyer with the Customs Form number and the track link upon shipment as part of my standard communication with buyer to confirm ship.
Is that sufficient to support any UPic Insurance claim? Well, I use to document a ship with pictures of the package and a photocopy of the Customs Form. Never had a claim, but it surely was good evidence to support one.

I've been with u-pic for 4 years and the only claim I've ever done with u-pic was on an International shipment. Painless, all I needed was a signed letter from the buyer.
They do track beyond borders. Last year I sent a package to China. It first went to Chicago, then to New Jersey, then misrouted to France where it sat for about a week, then to China. Once it was in China I was able to track when it was released from customs and when it was actually delivered. As my customer was concerned with the delay, being able to provide accurate info diffused the situation. I had a similar problem with a package to London which I was also able to track. Just a note, tracking generally works on the multi page form, but is less reliable on the small green forms, but I have tracked both.
For my more valuable items I selected required for Auctiva insurance for international destinations, and the result is that the shipping calculator will not work for any international destination.

Auctiva tech support confirms that ebay does not allow insurance for International First Class Mail - thus disabling the shipping calculator.
Therefore, Auctiva does not insure First Class Mail International.
It could be that the software on ebay changed, ruining the feature, but I suspect the problem is that the posters simply didn't know what they were talking about.
Maybe you can work around this with flat fee international shipping? Unacceptable for internatioal mail.

There is a way to get Auctiva insurance on First Class International, select "Included with Shipping and Handling" for insurance. Then you will be charged by Auctiva for the insurance automatically on checkout.

Thanks Rebecca for clarifying this for those of us who read forums later. As I was reading this I thought you could go in and request insurance apart from checkout but it is always much better to get it in writing from a Auctiva Specialist. I offer my International Customers to Utilize the Insurance Service and they have been receptive to the idea and are grateful for the opportunity to make the decision to do so. Sadly that is going away soon.
