I don't care if I generated a token or not. I didn't authorize you to put ANYTHING in my listings, nor did you ASK, nor did you WARN it would happen.

You had absolutely NO RIGHT to do it. This is going to be a serious problem. I am calling my Powerseller Rep now, and I will make this shady practice well known to the auction community in which I have a large presence.

It will take me HOURS to take that crap out of my listings.
Tom,
Myself and others noted to Bobby on another message board that we didn't have this happen to us. We set up our preferences FIRST and then authorized the token.
When I signed on this morning to the message board, my posting along with others had been deleted.

Just wanted to let you know that there were others on the board concurring with what you and I stated.

My Best,
Donna
Donna,

I fully understand what you did. I understand it here, and I understood it on Sparedollar.

This is not the point.

There is no indication when you sign up that any preferences need to be set. You fill out your id and other information, then you are taken straight to the token page.

When this happens, Auctiva has already taken the liberty of filling out your preferences for you. There is NO MENTION of preferences needing to be set, or rather unset from what AUCTIVA has already set FOR ME. Therefore when you generate the token, all this crap is done for you.

I NEVER checked the option to put this crap in my listings. AUCTIVA did it. NOT ME. This is extremely deceptive and sneaky.

I have already discussed this on the phone with eBay and this is NOT the first complaint.

If you search these boards alone you will see that I am NOT the first complaint here either.

Donna, I'm glad you are happy with the service here, but please stay out of my business.
Here is the page you are taken to immediately after filling in your Auctiva ID, password, and email address....

http://auctiva.com/ebayutil/tokencreate.aspx

There is NO indication that preferences need to be set first, and NO indication that they will put anything in your listings. But they do, the second you generate the token. I DID NOT authorize them to do anything. They took it upon themselves to do it WITHOUT my permission.

So noted.

I'm not in a fight with you Bobby. It's not my nature to do that. You should know that from over 2 years with me on SD. I don't drop to any level of fighting with another or bullying, threatening or intimidating others. (and yes, I know I'm not intimidating in the least bit nor do I shoot for that goal)

I simply move along and let the chips fall where they may.

As is noted by the CS here, fully 1/3 generate one. That leaves 2/3 that don't.

I have two accounts with Auctiva and I'm telling you the God's Honest Truth...with BOTH of the accounts, the way you signed up isn't the way it worked for me. I immediately set up my preferences..not generating a token.

As far as I'm concerned, This is over..I won't revisit this thread. Trash me, talk about me all you want, go for my throat, hire ninja's or good ole boys to rake me over the coals..do whatever..but I won't revisit.

My best to you and your wonderful wife. My hope is all that your eBay business continues to grow and prosper.

Donna
Well Tom T., I see that you have nothing else to say on the matter. Great customer service I see.

Since you have nothing else to say to me, how this for a previous statement...

"ack, I hate things being appended. Ya, I know we append store windows to many peoples listings, but honestly I think getting the HTML and putting it into a listing directly is the way to go. All those listings with 3-4 things appended look sloppy and are quite distractive to me as a buyer. The only thing I want to see as a buyer appended is additional info or clarifications about the item. I guess other peoples tastes differ because every item out there seems to have 2-3 things appended to it. It drives me crazy."

A direct quote from you. Here is the original thread...

You obviously don't like it either, so why do you do it without consent?

I guess your an "ignore the problem and it will go away" kind of guy? Well, I've got news for you, this one isn't going away.
The change that should be made is to require affirmative action on the users part to insert the showcase. To just automatically assume the users' preferences and insert it just from the issuance of a token is not right.

Most people think it can do no harm, but it can as in my case. I sell primarily coins. Most coin buyers will not buy coins from a seller that primarily sells other things and all of a sudden has a coin or 2. Their reasoning being that the seller knows nothing about coins.

When you automatically put those things in my listings, all that showed up were bolo ties that happened to be running, it gives the impression that I don't normally sell coins and could hurt my sales.

And I didn't ask for it, you just did it.

We've discussed it internally and decided not to make any changes. We may however begin adding it to the top of listings without the appended link eBay puts in.

If I were selling I'd want to insert the HTML into my template, but most sellers are indifferent, or don't know how to do it and so they leave it being appended to the bottom.

I think you know by my posts that I have been a positive cheerleader for Auctiva and believe in and hope Auctiva continues to grow upward and onward.

With this being said, when I signed up I also had no idea the gallery/showcase would be added to my listings. I found out when I looked at one of my listings. I thought to myself, WTH? I must admit, I was a tad bit ticked off because I had no indication that this would be done.

Ignorance is bliss so they say and maybe it's true in life but not in business. The showcase being added without my knowledge or consent didn't affect me either way. However, it very well could affect some sellers in a negative way.

It is only good business to either give sellers the control and or choice to add the showcase or not. At least, there should be a disclaimer stating the showcase will be added with instructions on what to do if this isn't desired.

There is no need to dig in and say to heck with it, it is what it is and it will stay this way. Better to nip it in the bud now and do the right thing. Sellers should always decide what is added to their auctions with an educated choice. Not by the default of unawareness.

Personally, I do not like the showcase at the top of my auctions. If you're planning to have the showcase auto insert at the top of the auction I will disable it and not use it altogether (please let me know if or when you plan to do this so I can turn the showcase off). I am very picky about my auction listings and I want it placed at the bottom. Period.

My business, my auctions, my choice.

I say all of this in a positive spirit of respect and goodwill.

As a final thought why not offer three check box choices? One for no showcase, one for top placement and one for bottom placement. I believe Vendio does it this way.

Something to consider.

and I don't think we'll be changing ours so this will probably be the last I have to say on this.

It may be the last thing you say here, but it won't be the last thing you say, I gaurantee it. The higher ups at eBay have been CALLING ME about this. They think its wrong too. You're invading peoples auctions without their permission.

There is also an article being written on a MAJOR auction news site about this deceptive practice.

This isn't over yet.

quote:
You did sign up, and then generate a token. That's 2 actions. All auction management sites have dozens if not more automate tasks. We're not going to put a yes/no for each of them. You did create a token. Are then supposed to assume that if you go to list we should put a box there warning you we're about to list and that eBay will charge you. Should we put another box saying buyers will be sent to our checkout, and that buyers will be given the chance to purchase shipping insurance. Another for product warranty. And when a buyer leaves positive feedback ask you if you'd like to leave it, and what about automated emails. Probably 6-8 types of end of auction emails. Better ask about sending any of those. Etc. People signing up expect these things to work. When they dont work they complain.

Now you're just being ridiculous. All these things require affirmative action. You putting the showcase in my listing required none. You set my preference for me and just did it.

And please don't tell me I generated a token. That does not give you the right to invade my auctions without my permission.
