Hi Jess,

From your description, it sounds like you're trying to use the Drag and Drop Uploader. I wrote a short description awhile back for someone who couldn't get the drag-and-drop to work, so I'll embellish on that. Here goes....

I assume you've gotten to the Drag-and-Drop page OK using Internet Explorer (IE), and you see a title "ActiveX Image Upload" in orange at the top left and a big empty window box with column titles of Files and Size. Note, there are three bullet items describing the processes, but I'll expand here with method that I use. To active that empty Window, you need to click on it. You'll notice that your cursor changes from a HAND to the normal cursor ARROW, signifying it's Active and ready.

The drag-and-drop is done between two different windows, so you also need to bring up a window with the desktop Windows Explorer (not IE) that has the file names or pictures you want to send. You can do that using the "Select" or "Select Folder" buttons at the bottom of the page. I keep mine in WinXP file Folders with "Thumbnail" views, so I can literally see what I want to send. Then, select and drag each one (or all you want with multiple selection) and drop them in the upload Window box. You should see it populate with the file names and sizes.

Having two open windows on the same screen might be a little tight, but just size the Windows appropriate to your monitor.

When you've dragged all the files to the box that you want to upload, just select the Upload Button and a pop-up window appears to give you progress on the transfer. It might seem like it freezes at the end, but just give it (the server) a minute to digest the photos and it should give you a screen showing successful transfer(s).

Hope that helps. I and other Forum members can certainly help with questions.

But now that I did that and went to upload it is saying The # of selected files exceeds the limit (100).And so I tried to highlight one picture to see if I could upload one and it said the same thing!

Hi Jess,

When you drag that single photo image into the box, does it show the file name (file name on your computer) and its file size under those column headers in the box? Make sure it's a single file name and not a folder of files (just speculation on why it thinks there are 100+).

I've never seen that message before, so I'm trying to isolate cause by double-checking what you see before you hit the upload button.

Hi! Me AGAIN.Thank you again for taking your time to help me Smile So I first grabbed the whole file folder.(last night). This time I went picure by picture.I took half the folder into the box.(I have several/ALOT) of pictures to upload.Than went to upload and it said bytes cannot exceed 3,333,333,333.Than I highlighted only one picture to upload and it said it was still to many bytes.I'm sorry about this.Once I know I won't forget and my listing will be GREAT! So, you cleared all the entries you dragged to the box after that error, started over, and tried to drag and upload just one, i.e. only one file in the box, and it was larger than 3,333,333,333? Are you sure? That doens't seem possible. What was the actual size on that one file in the box?

Hi!O.k maybe off by a mill to two.I think it was 3,???,??? bytes. Well I tried only one picture and it uploaded fine after I cleared everything out. That file said 1,019,868 bytes. So does this mean I can only do 1 picture at a time or 2 if it's under 3,???,???Good grief! That'll take awhile if I have 100-200 pics.Jess ~Smile
I've done around 25 at one time, most at or below 1MB each in size. I've never hit a total for all group limit and didn't know one existed (until your post). I'm guessing that's what the 3,333,333,??? limit means. If you get the message again, pay close attention to the ###, as that might restrict the number of files.

I would experiment and see how many you can send with one transfer group. Try 10, 15, 20, 25.....

Well folks,

I took the "challenge" and did a series of tests to explore the size limit and the full capability of the Drag-and-Drop (D&D) uploader. Here's what I did and the results.....

I created 50 identical files of equal size by replicating and renaming the same .jpg file test01 - test50 and placed the files in a folder on my system called Auctiva Test. The files are all 995,302 bytes in size (confirmed by the uploader and the files properties).

I used the "Select Folder" button of the D&D to locate the Folder and the "Scan" feature to load all the files into the D&D window in a single pass. NICE! Smile

On my first attempt to Upload, I immediately got an error message that I was attempting to exceed the Maximum Limit of 33,554,432 bytes. That happens to be a "magic number" of exactly 32 Megabytes 1024x1024x32 (interesting), and suggests the uploader is perhaps temporarily storing the uploads to memory for resizing, etc. prior to storing to the image library. That's the way I do it for expediency in programming with as little server disk hits as possible, i.e. memory is fast, disk is slow....although paging might be happening in some cases.

I removed files test34 to test50 from the uploader pane and retried (what I excepted to be just under the limit at 32,844,966 bytes).

That attempt to upload test01 - test33 was accepted, so I immediately stopped and re-added file test34 to the list to just exceed the limit with 33,840,268 bytes; and it was also accepted (that should have broke the limit). Confused

Stopped again and re-added file test35 to move the total to 34,835,570 and that was rejected. OK....there may be some fudge here. Big Grin

I removed test35 from the list and wanted to confirm that a transfer of test01 - test34 would complete successfully, or at least make sure my minor excess of the limit would work.

I began the upload with test01 - test34 files in the window and timed the upload at 10 minutes and 27 seconds including the pause at the end of the upload to digest and store the pictures in the library. That's about 18.5 seconds per picture and fast!, or as my 4yo grandson says when happy happy joy joy occurs...SWEET! Big Grin Please note, I'm on high-speed cable in US, so that result is probably optimum.

In checking my picture library, the 8x10 cropped shots were resized to 767px x 961px at 114.36KB by Auctiva and all good.

Hopefully, this test can help guide others in use of the D&D Uploader.

Interesting that I was able to just exceed the 32MB limit, but I'd stick with the 32MB as a guidline for what I'd throw into the D&D. It's a very good tool by Auctiva's programmers, so I use it to full advantage folks.

OH...and don't worry Auctiva, I'll delete the files.
