I would like to suggest that you provide a disclaimer to any member who choses to use the free Sellathon Counters. Users should know that if they use the free counters, anyone who clicks on the Sellathon counter link, will be able to view stats on their auctions that they may not feel comfortable having viewed.

The Sellathon counter link in my own auction has a link that says:

Click here to see my other items, ranked by popularity!

When a fellow eBayer clicks on that link, they can see how many visits you've had for that item, how many unique visits, which items have watches, which items have snipes set and which item has had the longest viewing time.

I asked Sellathon why this information was being shared in my auctions and received these responses:

#1 "If you use the Auctiva listing tool, and select the option to include a counter on your items on their auction creation page, you will be adding the ViewTracker tracking code to your items as this is the only counter available through their tools. "

#2 "glitzytreasures -

Our research shows that the Gallery increases traffic to your items 17%. More visitors means more opportunities for a sale!

As I've said in a few other threads, you can become a paid member and use a completely hidden code. This will eliminate the link to the Gallery and the counter graphic from your items all together, but will require you to swap tracking codes in any running items.

You can also join our affiliate program at http://www.sellathon.com/affiliates.php , and enter your affiliate information in Step 3 on the Tracking Code page. This will change the tracking code so that the link will go back to our home page, and we'll pay you a commission on every paid membership that comes to us by way of that link. Again, you'll need to swap tracking codes out in your running items if you choose this route."

That answer actually made me angry and made me feel like the only way I could avoid that information being shared with the world was if I paid their fee!

Whether or not you chose to promote Sellathon is your business, but I think it's only fair to warn members in advance that "Free" always comes with a price.

Donna, are you an Auctiva employee or perhaps a Sellathon employee? You seem very determined to undermine my opinions and concerns on this subject.

I believe this particular forum is here for members like me, to make suggestions to Auctiva. I don't believe suggestions should requires a vote of "worthiness" from other members unless implementing that suggestion causes them hardship or interferes or impedes how they do business. I believe this simple suggestion will do none of those things. ;-)
That's your opinion of whether you think I'm undermining your posts.

I'm posting my opinions and I'm free to do that.

What? An employee? Me? Surely you can't be serious.

Uh, I'm in Florida. Auctiva is in California.

I'm an eBay seller, Auctiva is my third party service. Sellathon is another third party service.

I reread my post and no where did I state that you had no right to your opinion. Nor did I state your opinion didn't hold worth.

As you have your opinions, so do I and I have as much right to post them as you do.

Geesh <rolling eyes> You sure get your nose outta joint easy.

I won't step in to help you or answer questions where you're concerned or go the extra mile to notify others that you have a problem as it's not appreciated.

Argue with yourself, because I wasn't arguing to start off with.

Now who has their nose out of joint? Yes, you have a right to your opinion, I never implied you didn't, but looking back through all these posts, you did not offer help at all. Everytime I mentioned this YOU were the one who "argued." If you were truly trying to help, I WOULD appreciate it. But you simply kept singing the praises of Sellathon, on and on and on.

I'm sure their services are wonderful, when you pay for them. But my auctions are MY auctions and I should have the right to decide what is displayed through them.
Here's a solution.

Quit using us for 30 days then come back.

After 30 days your free sellathon trial will have ended and that info won't be available.

Also have you tried turning off that feature at Sellaton? Perhaps it's something you can turn off there. I'll be happy to pass along that you don't like that feature the next time I talk to Sellathon.

Turn off the counter when listing your item from our site. Seems simple enough.

true, they will, but how are you going to see the stats yourself without that link and without upgrading to a paid membership? The stats are there for your benefit. And without upgrading to paid membership, that's the only way there is to view them.
I just want to clear something up. I haven't said, even once, that I didn't like Sellathon or their product.

Jeff, you say that I could just stop using your site for 30 days or turn off the counter when using your site and I agree that will work... but how could I possibly know that BEFORE using the counter?

I did contact Sellathon and let them know that I didn't like that information in my auctions. They didn't provide any information on "turning it off" and I couldn't find any information on their site to do that. They simply explained that the information is there because I used their free counter.

The point is not whether or not you offer counters through Sellathon, or that people can choose to use them or not. The point is making sure that people who use that free counter have an understanding of what information would be available to others, about their auctions, by using the free counter.

You know, I have posted on boards for years and have never had anyone become defensive or angry with me. I apologize for anything I've said that has gotten me off on the wrong foot here.

This is your response to a user's concerns? And, for that matter, a user who is stating her concerns in a calm manner in the Suggestions forum?

This isn't some raving lunatic who's badmouthing anyone -- just a user who's concerned about others seeing her stats (which is perfectly reasonable, come on).

If there's a choice between a caustic response and not issuing one at all...
