I would like to create listings to post on Ebay.uk, but am having trouble with the shipping options. I will be shipping from the US, however, in the Auctiva template the only shipping option available are shipping services within the UK. I want to specify USPS Airmail and Global Priority Mail. Any ideas??????? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

that was something that was mentioned in intl. shipping lecture @ ebay Live - listing on other sites because of people on other sites not changing search setting.

I didnt attend that lecture myself, so didnt get to ask, but was my understanding that if you list on an international site, you have to be willing to accept funds in their local currency. (which I would have to go view the video of lecture online a second time to see if they covered that or not)

Has this been an issue? How do you handle it? Do you simply do PayPal and let them pay in their currency and then convert it yourself (paying paypal their conversion fee) ?

Seems to me to be the only way to handle it for most of those, but was wondering how you do it.

I know I can open a bank account overseas with Lloyds TSB http://www.lloydstsb-offshore.com/International/ and accept euro or pounds sterling, via bank wire (can open an account in USD, sterling, or euro) but havent investigated how to then get my $ in USD back in my acct here). I guess I should go to my local bank and inquire as to what fees they charge for incoming wires and currency conversion. If cheap enough I guess I could accept payments from customers that way.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Another reason interested in becoming more 'international' is not only the increase in sales, but last i knew it was free to list on ebay singapore (but not sure how many scammers hang out on ebay.com.sg)

That one i can answer. Nope! your id will work on the other ebay sites. (pretty sure it will not work on the ebay owned mercadolibre sites in Mexico and South America, though)

Rick - did some minor editing to my previous post. nothing major, but you might find the bit about singapore interesting
I have been listing on UK site for about a year and state in my auctions that I accept payment in USD, GBP, and Euro. However, I believe you can list on the UK site for example and while your listing price will appear in Pound Sterling you can specify Paypal payment in US dollars. Buyers can make payment via Paypal in their local currency and have Paypal convert to US dollars. That way your buyer would incur the conversion expense. I have a paypal accounts in all three currency, however,I find some foreign buyers do pay in US dollars. I have not had to convert my Sterling or Euro currency, I use it when I travel. I have paid for airline tickets in Sterling directly from my Paypal account and also Paypal offers an ATM/Debit card which is great for traveling. Since I have not had to convert, I have not investigated how competitive Paypal conversion rates are but it seems it would be in their best interest to offer competitive conversion.

I will also confirm that your original Ebay ID is valid on all other Ebay sites with no problem and you can monitor all auctions on Ebay.com. In other words when you view "Items I'm Selling" from My Ebay, you will see all items for .com, .uk, .au listings.

Thanks for the input, I missed Ebay Live as we were in Europe at the time, so I appreciate knowing that I can view video online. I'll check that out.
Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I have to admit, though, I never knew currency conversion through PayPal was anything other than automatic. I get non-US PayPal payments all the time through eBay and other venues and I've never thought twice about it as they just show up in my account as US dollars.

Does this mean the buyers are manually doing something?

If I listed on a non-US eBay site and accepted PayPal why would I not automatically receive the funds in US dollars?
My understanding is when you list on Ebay.com the transaction defaults to US Dollars. Buyers who have Paypal accounts in other currency make payment that is converted from their local currency to US dollars. I don't believe they have to manually do anything, however, I believe paypal does show them what the converted cost will be in the currency they hold their account in. Conversely, when you list on Ebay.UK the transaction defaults to Pound Sterling and the Paypal checkout process defaults to Pound Sterling. When you receive Paypal payments in a currency that you do not hold an account in, your Paypal profile comes into play and you have the option to set your profile to automatically have foreign currency payments converted to US dollar, to block the payment, or have Paypal ask you how to handle the payment.
thanks for the info on how youre handling payments. appreciate it Smile

here's page with videos http://www.ebayuniversity.com/features/ebay_live_2006/# the intl. shipping one doesnt really tell you a whole lot.

It does have one interesting tidbit, though, about marking "gift". It has always been my understanding that if it's a commercial shipment, it's not a gift, period. That gift is only for when it's a gift from shipper to recipient.

According to the guy on video, you can mark it 'gift' if youre shipping to 3rd party and is a gift from the buyer to the recipient. Ie: buyer from London buys item and asks you to ship to his sister.

I dont know if that's correct information or not, but is what the guy on video says. 'Course, then comes the whole do you want to ship to 3rd party?
welcome. they had other, more advanced, seminars at Live! and dunno why those arent available on video. 'Course, I didnt go to any of the lectures or round-table discussions, so I cant complain too much. Had the opportunity to go them, just didn't. Spent most of my time on the solutions floor (vendor area) and still didnt make it all the way through it.
Thanks much for the info about currency conversion, vsop. I've been getting payments from other countries for quite a while through several different venues so I guess I must have it set up to automatically convert in my profile. I'd better go check that out...

Hey, in regards to your original post -- does that mean then that if you list directly at eBay.com.uk (rather than through Auctiva) that you can set US shipping method info? Is it just that it defaults to your existing eBay.com ID's preferences?

Clearly, this is making my head spin. If it's as easy as it sounds, though, then I want to start doing some listing on eBay Australia and UK!
