I would love to have my own website where I can have all my items for sale in one site that would be great and my dream! Right now i am spread out, my main website I have all my stores and auction on, I have had it for 2 years now, I just wish i could have my own website and thats it.

I'm watching someone else go through the pains of setting up her online store..I'm hoping to learn to do my own. The osmosis theory is not working and I'm still just as confused. But I'm watching and learning a tad bit at a time and trust that ironchick (Beth) will fill me in on steps after she learns.

I'm one of those types that has to have deailed instructions. If left on my own without a step by step instruction <sigh> It takes me forever to get something done. That's why I'm such a big fan of .pdf instruction booklets that come with new sites/software/etc.

Here's how I learn best....
Step 1
Enter information into Square 1-3
Step 2
Drag and drop such and such info into square a
Step 3
Right click here to copy shortcut and copy to square b
Step 4
fill in line 1-7

I was really hyped to start up a ecrater store, but they dont allow us to use merchant accounts. Guess I gotta drop that option.

eCrater is very limited, you can't even get access to the HTML on your homepage...but...it is free and gives excellent Google placement.

I am the same way, I have been looking around at all these websites and even bought a website creator, but i just donot know that much of html, I sure can use your help when you learn more that would be GREAT!! your the best!!

Oh boy, then you must be having a heck of a time with OSCommerce! Maybe they've improved the documentation since when I tried to learn it a couple of years ago but I finally gave up.

I ended up using CubeCart, though, which I found to be much more user-friendly for non-programmers such as myself. It's also free, open source stuff and I've had a lot of good experience with their support forums. (I use Version 2.something, by the way, but they've got a newer one out now too.)

You have NO idea how lost I am.
It's like someone is speaking a foreign language to me.
Let's say that language is...oh Spanish. I know a few of the words, water, taco, home, but I'm nowhere near able to understand a full sentence spoken to me. Well, I understand SSL and more, but putting it all together? I'm lost, just lost and getting frustrated.

I feel I may just have to find someone who can do the whole she-bang for me and pay them.

Cube Cart? I'll look into that.
Thanks for the tip..you might have saved me some money if I can figure it out.

It's hard to word exactly what I'm trying to do, because I haven't done anything yet due to utter frustration.

Everytime I try, I don't understand the terms and begin to beat my pretty little head against the wall. I have the "kick off" site that leads to my ecraters. I do a fair amount of biz from that..but I'd like to be able to have a fully functioning website where I handle my orders and I don't have to have off-shoots to ecraters. (I plan on keeping my ecraters cuz I'm doing a nice little business via them)

I had thought about having one of the kids that my second son is friends with that are going into computer science come by and just say...Sure Mrs. L, I can do that for you for such and such amount. (or trade it out in home-cooked meals)

Hey, Donna, if you can afford their rates and you think they know what they're doing then hiring somebody to set up a store isn't a bad idea.

The only downside, of course, is when something goes wrong and needs to be fixed.

I did find CubeCart to be easier to deal with but there's still a learning curve and it wasn't without its problems. The biggest given about these open source carts, too, is that you <i>will</i> have to do some customization/playing with the code to get it the way you prefer it.

It's possible that there are commercial carts (for $$) that are super-user-friendly and have tons of options but I never could get any solid info when I was researching them.

I built mine...a lot of it is not on the server since I'm not selling out of it yet, basically I use it to direct traffic...for now.

I have HUGE plans for it...basicaly, I'm putting together the investments to fully stock it and go head on with the big dogs.
