I started building a new auction today, set the category and saved. I then proceeded to build the text of the auction. After 20 to 25 minutes of building a huge text description, cleaning up the text, getting the words just right, I hit the save button and was told that my login had expired. I used the back button and got nothing. I logged in again and had only the original category saved. It was all lost.
Now I know this is all free, what right do I have to bitch about it huh? I want to first say that I have built many auctions with Auctiva, I love it and appreciate what I am getting for nothing.
So I would like to suggest that users be notified that login will soon expire so any current listing can be saved. Or at least be able to go back so I can save the text to a notepad. Maybe an autosave?
thanks..phal

Hi phal, bad luck Frown I haven't yet had my login expire on me, and in fact when I come back to the site after being away, I am still logged in - have you checked the 'Keep me logged in' option next to your login name and password? Assuming it is safe for you to do that on the computer you are using, that's your best option. Another tip might be to do all the donkey work in a word processor maybe, then copy and paste it in, at least that way you have a backup.
You guys are lucky (yes lucky Smile
A few months back NO ONE could stay logged in it was ridiculous! Saving every 5 minutes is indeed a hassle. But that was fixed, Phal I don't know why it is happening to you. But DO check the 'remember me' box at login, I haven't logged back in for about a week even after shutting off my computer. If it continues, you should definitely file a support request.
I just had the worst day of the past year or two. Got off to a bad start then got delayed trying to get home to take advantage of eBay's 10p listing day. Skipped my class to get as much done as possible. Got photo editing out of the way and then Auctiva messed up and I got hardly anything listed! Each time I finished a listing and clicked the 'post' button the page just froze and I could not even refresh or go back to stay on Auctiva. All other internet pages worked fine so I don't believe it was my laptop. It has cost me all the money I desperately needed to save by listing everything today. I tried rushing through the listing process to make sure it was not 'time out' as happens when one is researching an item and trying to get it right. Same result. Is this a freak phenomenon from which some of us randomly suffer? Perhaps my laptop cannot cope with Auctiva occasionally for some reason? I wish I had given up and used eBay's own listing function but I couldn't sacrifice my template and I'm an optimist. Something I clearly cannot afford to be!
No, I tried clearing my cache and cleaning the disk a couple of times, to no avail. I assume 'PST' is an American time zone! It was probably either 12.30 or 1.30 am my time (London) - oh and Pete's too! Haha - when I posted the query on here. So 8 hours time difference? I don't know. Unless PST is really the Philippines! Haha.

I take it that is not the answer then...not the maintenance window. Everything else was working ok just every time I clicked the 'post' button the page froze and I lost everything. I'm going to try again this evening since I need to list the items regardless of ebays fees. Doesn't sound like you guys have come across this before. I'm just cursed this week. I've been sick and other stupid things have gone wrong as well. Perhaps it will just start to function properly when it feels like it. Thanks.
Just in case you are computer savvy and know how to deal with spyware/viri please forgive me but....
anytime I have anything weird go on with my computer I run:
Spybot Search and Destroy (for spyware)
AdAware (for spyware)
and
Trend Micros Sysclean (for viri)
As a matter of fact, my wifes' monitor is blinking every time I open a window and I am running Spybot as I write.
Spyware does some really strange stuff.
I also turn of the Windows Firewall when I am blocked anywhere. There are times I have exceptions written into the firewall and Windows will still block it.
If anyone would like instruction on any of these programs, respond to this subject line and I will get you going. I absolutely hate this intrusive stuff and will help anyone clean their comp.
Spybot just finished and I found 11 instances of tracking cookies. It probably came from my son being downloading a game.

Phal..

I have internet security and do run AdAware once a day. I ran that to see if it would resolve the issue yesterday but it did not help.

Tonight I tried to list my items again. The first one posted safely but the page froze again when I clicked 'post' for the second one. Then I had a brainwave and downloaded Mozilla Firefox to see if it was my browser (I still use IE6 but it hasn't been causing problems in other ways). Bingo! I seem able to click on the post button and it works in Firefox.

If only I had not saved all the listings to create on the cheap day I would have known there was a problem and fixed it before the day!

So you run AdAware AND Spybot? Perhaps I should try that one too. My laptop is old and all the internet activity seems to end up causing major problems and crashes etc if not the blue screen of death after about 5 months so I reformat and reload everything. I am about to do this again soon anyway even though it's only been about 2 months since last time. I have acquired Acronis 10 to make a system image so I don't have to spend a whole week reinstalling and updating everything next time. Only trouble is the software doesn't recognise the external hard drive onto which I want to save the image! My D drive is full so I will have to remove some stuff to make room for it unless I save it on a few cds.
BTW...I remember searching for 'Spybot Search & Destroy' on Google once and it came up with dozens of different ones: clearly it is a name on whose reputation everyone wants to ride! Is yours the original one? Haha. If it is one you recommend please post more info so I can download it somewhere. Evidently Spybot S&D isn't enough as everyone calls their syware by the same name to get a piece of the action! Many thanks.
AdAware finds stuff that Spybot does not and Spybot finds stuff AdAware does not, so I run both.

Is the Main Spybot download page

Go Here for AdAware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

or just type in the name of the spyware solution + download.com (which is the Cnet download area) for either program.

And I run both on a weekly basis.

Louis as for your crashes, anytime I have had that or the blue screen of death it was caused by program conflicts. Believe it or not, many times by screensavers. The only way to stop it is to load them all back in one at a time and see which is the problem. If you run xp you can make a nice clean save in your system restore (something before a lot of programs are added) and just restore when you begin having problems. You may need to go into safe mode when doing this. Doing this has saved my butt a lot of times. Great move with Firefox by the way!

Thanks for the info. I tried using system restore a few times and it crashed the system and caused the blue screen of death, but I admit I didn't use safe mode. Hence the plan to format and create a system image. I don't use scrensavers. As for internet security, I tend to buy last year's cheap on ebay and then it gets updated. So it is not the latest outfit and I don't know if it is better or worse than using recommended free programmes. I've used Zonealarm and AVG in the past too but feel more secure if I have paid something. Bizarre, huh?

I prefer Explorer to Firefox for a few reasons I can never remember until I use Firefox regularly. It's better for some things and not others and, even though I can import my IE favourites I cannot then update or move them back from Firefox to IE again. With Firefox, of course, one cannot upload multiple pictures to Auctiva if I recall, and also the cut and paste function does not work by right clicking a mouse. Although when I listed items yesterday, this was the case at the beginning and by the end but for most of what I listed the cut-and-paste function worked fine by right clicking, strangely.

The future is definitely R2-D2 maintenance droids that fix all these stupid issues (and list all my ebay items - and on the most economical day - since it takes FOREVER if you are selling a wide range of stuff). And make sure you're wearing clean underpants. Lol. Men and women will become more androgynous as a result. 'I need a unit to sample and hold' (Neil Young). Cool
