Hi Choo! How ya be? Nice post, except for the headache that one sentence gave me Big Grin
I'll be even more scarce the next few days..going to Ebay Live, practically right in my own backyard Smile
Hopefully I can get permission from certain folks to post a picture or 2. Should be fun. At least it'll keep me out of trouble Eek

I'll send ya some more memory pills, I've got plenty. Just ignore the little skull & crossbone, doesn't mean anything
Hey all been MIA for awhile! Just popping in to say HI! I see Miss M broke out evil nurse Wanda again. I have been haphazardly following the thread. I guess it has been almost a month since I last posted Red Face The benefit show went well and Magoos is super busy right now. I have been putting extra time in helping out there as there are alot of bike runs that come through in the summer. Glad to see the thread is still chugging along. And to think we wondered if we could keep it alive until January! If this keeps up we will have to look into syndication rights!Watch out Seinfeld Big Grin Getting ready to go for some pre-testing for a surgery I have scheduled for next week Frown
Wish I could be at eBay live Miss M, I really thought hard about it when I found out Chris Isaak would be playing. But the whole surgery thing put the kabosh on that one. Have fun and hopefully you get to post those pics. But please leave the two tranvestite enforcers at home, after all this is GreedBays event and we would not want those two ruining it! HMMM? On second thought Smile
BTW FeeBay has not gotten a penny from me since December and I still have my Bronze PS rating?
HI TAZ!!!
Happy, happy to see ya! Glad the benefit went well (we knew it would Smile) but sorry to hear you're having surgery Frown I really wish you could have gone to Ebay Live..one of the other regular posters here is going too (don't know if it's 'proper' to mention names so I won't) but at least I'll 'know' somebody.
Gotta go to work now..don't know how I'll get up in the morningFrown might have to stay up all night. REALLY poor planning on my part!

PS Taz, I DID notice you're still a Powerseller..LOL..ebay is too busy dealing with FB complaints etc to monitor anything else I guess Big Grin

Later Smile
Hi Everybody,
WoW Ebay Live was alot of fun!!! (I can see people rolling their eyes, but I only went because of the Auctiva booth) Smile We had a blast! Kbalona came in all the way from NY, and tho we didn't have much time to hang out, it was GREAT working the Auctiva booth, handing out tee shirts, etc. If Ebay was run by people like the Auctiva folks, everybody would be happy! Just a GREAT bunch of people. I can't even say how much I enjoyed myself Smile

Their booth seemed to be the hit of the conference...standing room only for the live tutorials, hundreds (or probably thousands) of tees handed out, it was awesome! I'm sure I'll think of more later, but for now just wanted to post some pics...wasn't able to get too many, it was VERY busy Smile

This is Auctiva Chrystal (who designed one of my favorite templates 'High on the Hog'), kbalona, and yours truly. Keep in mind: white makes me look fat, I was having a bad hair day, and I left my fangs at home Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

EDIT--Choo obviously you forgot to take your memory pills, you forgot who you're talking too Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Hi K..You're up early, I would have thought you'd sleep half the day Smile

Heh...well, I'm off for a nap here in a few minutes.
I forgot to mention, it was really really nice to meet Sus also.
DOH!! You weren't supposed to put them in the drain, silly....But since you didn't swallow them, you forgot that Eek

Explosion?? Would I really do that to you?? (I say this with my halo glowing) Big Grin Razz Big Grin

K - If you have any pics you can post pls do (and send them to me too) Smile

EDIT---If anyone wants to see the Ebay Live pics, they're on the previous page, 146.
Great! YAY! I took time to look at your pics that is great! I have a pic of you now in my mind.....
I was gonna rush off, but glad I didn't. When I got the notifier email and you said something about posting pics, I thought they were the old gals again! I should've come to look!
Glad you had fun...all of yous!
Bet your neighbours enjoyed the fireworks not that any will still be around to comment Big Grin

Not much new here, trickle selling on Specialist Auctions site but probably more cost effective than GreedBay had become and being out of season too.

Behaving myself, hmmmm, have to ask around for comments, still at least I know when to drop a pin or what it came from Roll Eyes
That's excellent Choo Smile
I wish I would have done well on the 2 other sites I tried but I barely even got any views Frown

I can't believe how bad we're getting at posting here...Our goal should be to see if we can keep this thread alive till next Dec, make it a whole year. Kind of hard tho with just the 2 of us and the occasional Taz & N.

Choo, what did you do with the enforcers, I haven't seen them for awhile??

Unfortunately it really depends on your wares and customer age group, greedbay is universally known. Most of my light weight items are old timeless content, informative magazines full of information of interest to modellers.

I also believe this group of buyers are very club orientated so the next critical point is when word of mouth recommendation really takes off.

Listings need to be laid out in a way that can be searched easily and very many live at a time waiting for that individual who thinks that's just what I have been looking for.

This means a large quantity need to be available for buyers to peruse (auctions too expensive on greedbay and store format useless for some while now), bit like a library it reaches a critical mass when researchers/readers tell their friends its worth going there.

It is not only about price but accuracy of the descriptions and the service you provide with it, like speed of delivery, packing, and dealing with detailed enquiries which I expect you are well aware of. Overall I prefer to be seller than a buyer where my expectations over the years have dwindled to I might get what I believe to have paid for sometime and maybe even packed suitably.

So I aim to provide a superior service so that buyers can rely on getting what they want quickly so they can get on with what they enjoy most from their hobby, also that it is always worth buying from me even if I am not the cheapest.

You obviously have not found the right alternative site yet, it also seems to me that my sales are picking up albeit slowly faster now that I have stopped listing on greedbay.

It is useful when the alternative site allows at least a link to your greedbay feeback page as the SA site does because it does give some more comfort to a buyer and accepting PayPal for everything is also a necessity because it does make the buying more secure, I will always opt to buy via PayPal.

Ok, the time taken to process sales of low value items with a personal touch is time consuming but the brand loyalty effect is just as important to you and I as it is to a major corporation.

When you make a move for the next season make sure you mailshot you old customers (especially the repeat buyers), I certainly added signatures to my electronic dispatch notes telling buyers where I was going.

Sales may not improve much this year with a slowing global economy and greedbay going into a tizzy so I look more now to the direction I should be heading next year based on unusually for me 'optimism'. Many sellers will go to the wall but that when the economic state of the world picks up again I'll get in again quick, bit of dog eat dog, but before competition rises again get solidly established.

So global economic slowdown and greedbay are culling sellers, the strongest and the most determined will survive, easy days are over for now.

End of soapbox ramblings for now Smile
Your standards may be that low (certainly judging by the choice of your first cat fodder lieutenants) but over this side of the pond we have appearances to maintain . . . pause for raucous laughter and rolling about the floor to subside.

Where was I, oh yes appearances . . . another pause . . ok, "titter, ye not", I would rather you speculate so I can have a laugh rather than the other way around Big Grin

Ere !! . . . are you calling me a greedbay automaton Mad

On the other hand if it's for the greedbay automaton, let it stay down there out of harms way.

YES my standards are QUITE low (I'm talking to YOU aren't I? hehehe) Oh I'm gonna get it for that
, Yep.

Why do you think I prefer to be anonymous, so no one knows I talk with the likes of you Razz Razz Razz Razz

Knowing your tastes in colleagues I expect your new lieutenant is across between the hulk and a clogged sewer anyway Eek

What have you done to yourself?
Nothing, well except spruce myself up a bit with a touch of paint about 150 years ago, anyway don't need to change my name, everyone should have a hobby.

You see I am designed well for collecting up items to sell in a flea market like greedbay Big Grin

BTW, the missus is way too good for you
Too right, lucky me, don't know how she puts up with me so well especially when I get started on greedbay Wink
Well with such a damp, cloudy and dreary June onwards getting up at 6am in the morning is the best time to catch some sunlight before it rises above the cloud line. Frown

I'd rather be up early in daylight than the darkness of late evening any day.

Just gone 7:35am here now, well Pete reckoned on being busy, anyway ol'gal isn't it about time you zimmered off to bed, heaven help your victims if you start jabbing them in the wrong places 'cause you are half asleep Eek
Of course I am, bad enough talking to myself without being here and typing to myself as well.

Oh well I'm just stopping by to say 'lo just like the weather all lows our second hot day in a month frequently cloudy and the perishing clouds leak as well.

So you are going swimming to be warm and dry then Confused

Me missuses makes sure I behave myself in public, but not in private Wink

I don't even know what to say to that

Corr, well what if I said that 3 was to match your 3 days and in fact it is more like over 4 decades since I scared the life out of myself at a school swimming lesson before I reached my teens ?

Haven't been able to step foot in a swimming pool or go near a steep waters edge since !

Last time I went to a local pool with my wife to pickup up our lad (some 6 years ago) I could not even enter the hall where the pool was, I just froze at the doors.

Would love to have been able to swim but I was nervous enough before going for swimming lessons but one short panic underwater due to a collision with another kid terrified me. Despite that I weent back the next week determined to not let it put me off but I could not get in any further than knee deep, that's life, obviously wasn't for me Smile
Well my big cats will charm your dogs and devour your BIN bandits, they are partial to oriental cuisine and what they don't like they bury, they're tidy pussy cats Smile

Well another day of showers, the garden is a slime bath where I have been trying to landscape it, or rather rearrange the clay into something grass can grow on and a mower can trim withoutout scalping the lumps.

Must be the dampest and grottiest summer for a long time after a few above average days in spring and early summer.

Can't even come up with some decent lunacy here, come on folks pop in and drop a bombshell or two to liven this thread up a bit more Cool
Hi Jeff, good of you to drop in and nudge it up the charts again, well what with holidays, and some working multiple shifts and selling in a summer/part recessional lull it was only to be expected.

This ol' thread ain't finished yet, Ms M and I are it's guardians !! Roll Eyes

Still the view count continues to creep up despite the lack of lunacy at present, then again online selling isn't that hot at the moment either, just like the weather.

Mind you I am getting good out of season sales on the SpecialistAuctions site so much so that I doubt I wil move my magaazine and books sales back to greedbay, but certainly watching for Auctiva's alternative.

So, running out of steam ? Well the tender is a bit low on coal and water, but the fire still glows, very soon we will get steam pressure up and start pounding the metals again, and anyone else daft as us to get involved in this lounge thread or is it a rope ? Smile
Summer has been good for me but it seems to be over now Frown Last week sales really tanked so I'm done for now, at least for a month or so. Then I can start up with fall/winter stuff (if I can ever find any time to take pics) Frown

So Jeff, you're still reading our nonsense huh? Wink Glad you joined us, if even for a little while.

Choo--if his room is THAT bad, keep the bulldozer...you need it more than I do Razz
Hey ChooChoo, going back to my avatar picture, C&O 614, if you want to see a wonderful video of this fabulous engine at 70mph, check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhGoR1cpdrM&feature=related

I just came upon it on YouTube looking up something else In fact, there a re a number of vids, but this is a particularly good on at high speed This is similar to the speed of when I snapped that pic at left Its been over 10 years since these trips, time goes by fast. That's what railroading was once all about!

Another good one, taken a few miles from where I took my still photo. Great pacing footage.

There are just so many outstanding videos of these trips 10 years ago, I can't get over it.

Take a look at this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7PePKv7OGU&feature=related

While it's 7 minutes long, and worth watching every minutes (some great pacing shots), the first 90 seconds says it all!

What a shame this engine is now sidelined, and essentially rusting away. I don't even know who owns it now. I do know it needs major restoration again, and is out of certification. It can no longer be steamed.

Awesome vids, Jeff. I think everyone likes trains. The hospital I work at is 103 years old and was built behind a huge trainyard. No steam engines anymore, but plenty of freight and commuter trains still carrying on. The noise is deafening at times but no one ever seems to mind Smile The patients say they actually like the sound of the train whistles at night.
