I'm trying to learn how to use the templates and I'm looking forward to the class today, but right now I'm having problems with the screen width of this template I found under the Consumer Electronics; Name: Component 2
Template ID: 10332

It's way too wide for the computer screen and you have to scroll left and right to see everything. I don't want my customers to have to go through that much trouble to see what I'm selling. I've tried several different image arrangements to see if that was the problem, but no matter what I do, it's still too wide.

Is there anyway to change the width size?

Is there anyway to change the width size of templates that I've already uploaded to Ebay?

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Well, I just tried it and didn't have that problem, but if you go to your saved listings with that template, and get html, it should start with this, but with brackets around it:

table width="95%" style="border-top: solid 2px #000000; border-bottom: solid 2px #000000; border-right: solid 2px #000000; border-left: solid 2px #000000;" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"

Try playing with the table width and see if you can get it to the size you'd like. You can do the same thing for your active listings...edit description, html and play with the %.
My user name is vhester (I didn't see the suggestion to sign up for the community forums with my real user name until after I signed up with the beads-n-clasp.

I thought that the html was set up in such a way that it would work with all screen sizes (being % instead of a fixed width) that's why I'm so surprised that it doesn't look right. The other templates I've used turned out ok and look fantastic on Ebay. I don't understand why this one is being so difficult! LOL

Thanks

All of our templates are designed to look good at all widths. I suggest you file a support case, or reply to this with your username and we can look at the actual listing in your account.

Well, I went to http://www.practiceboard.com/ and input the html there to see what could be done and it made no difference no matter what I tried.

When I view the page without anything on it, it looks just like it should. But when I view it with the stuff I put in using the designer, it does the left/right scroll thing.

Any ideas?

Well, I managed to fix the problem myself. I guess that template didn't like having 3 pictures side by side, so I used Ebay's revision editor to move one of the pictures to the bottom of the page and I also removed all the horizontal lines. While I was at it, I also made all the fonts smaller. Here's the page now with the fixes in place:

Thanks Gio,
I worked great with that one, but not the second one. <sigh> I have four pics, in pairs and side by side, so I moved them to be in a single file throughout the listing and it still wants to scroll left and right. What do you think is still the problem?

Thank you so much for sticking with me on this!

Well, I just got through editing the third template and it didn't work either.

I decided to 'center' EVERYTHING that I could, so that at least it wouldn't take quite so much scrolling to see everything.

I have two more with the same template that needs to be edited, but have to get some sleep first. I was going to post another auction tonight using that template, but I think I've changed my mind. LOL!!

Hello Beads...,

I went and looked at the the last two auctions you have posted here and the main culprit for why you are having to scroll left and right is because you have the store window inside the template. Which I think looks great, but aside from that, if you are concerned that a person with their monitor set at 800px wide will have to side scroll ( by the way these people are pretty used to scrolling left and right) then you will need to take the store window out of the inside of the template. To explain exactly what is happening, the left and right cables on the template occupy 100px each, the gut or your description and images are set to occupy 95% of the inside of the template, so combining the store window which is approx. 715px with the outer images on the template the total width of your template is roughly 915+ pixels, that will never fit on a screen with a resolution width of 800. I hope that explains things clearly.
Brent,
That's makes sense, but since I didn't put the window there, it came that way and another one I'm having problems with is one of the jewelry templates has the same problems, how do I go about moving the window _out_ of the template? I've looked at the html, but there is a LOT there to sift through. Plus, Ebays editor doesn't go past the counters on the page. You can't to the html there.

So if I wanted to move the window down past the counters, how do I go about doing that? And how come I don't have that problem with the blue "contemplation" template?

I was able to get rid of the scroll problem by removing the horizontal lines and moving the pictures around.

I understand what you are saying, but don't know how to fix it.

I am imagining that when you revised your listing you copied the store window code and then placed it into the template unsuspectingly.

The fix is to go back into your listings, Revise, look for the section "Edit Description" in the html box that opens you will want to search for "<!--ASW-->" Copy that and everything inbetween it and the next"<!--ASW-->", Delete it from where it is currently. Then towards the end of all that code, there will be a "</table>", immediately following that you may code in the following <br><center>, then paste in all the code that you removed the step before, </center>.

This should fix your problem and place the store window outside your template, towards the bottom of the page.
Upon further investigation, the reason for the store window being placed were it has was discovered. In your "Shipping and Payment" profile, you have the [Store Window] tag. This is causing any template where you use that profile to populate your store window inside. So it is up to you to remove it if you wish. Otherwise, to fix the auctions that are running, still follow the instructions I listed above. Best of Luck
Brent, I really appreciate your help on this. I do understand html somewhat, I'm just not very good at it yet. I did make the mistake of making a profile with the [window] command in the payment instructions so that the window would be at the bottom of all my auctions, and then forgot that it was there. I can see how it would mess with the templates, so I tried the suggestion of going to "Edit Description" on Ebay and so forth. Following your instructions. But I couldn't find the html note <!--ASW--> anywhere in the coding. So I checked a couple more of my auctions that I'm having the scrolling problems with and couldn't find that command. Next, I came back here to "Get The HTML" under my saved listings, copied and then pasted it into MS works so that I could look at the html in a bigger screen, thinking I was just missing it. I couldn't find it. So I used the "find" command in works and the only <!> that I could find, was the one for the template FILE NAME; like <!FILE NAMEBig Griniamond Dazzle2 ect, ect.>

The "get html" in the saved listings area is the entire html, right? It looked like it was.
Anyway, I've decided to just let everyone scroll around to their hearts content with my current listings and I've changed the Shipping and Payment profile so that the [window] command is no longer in there.

I'll just have to be sure and remember what I've done as far as adjustments are concerned! LOL..

Thank you,
vhester

Actually, you can get the html code after saving a listing profile by going to "Listings", "saved listings". When the list is pulled up, put a check in the box to the left of the profile you want to get html for, then hit the "html" button towards the upper right hand corner of the page.

A small window opens up that's called "listingHTML" and there is all your html for your listing. You can then hit either the "select" button, which selects all the html for a C/P, or you can "close" the window.

Thank you wahm922, I appreciate the effort and it's nice to know that I'm not going crazy! <grin> I do know that when you do a <! in html, it tells the html editor that what you are writing in the brackets is a note to yourself and should be ignored.

That particular auction is the only one out of nine orginal postings I did that is looking right after I did a frenzy of corrections this afternoon. I couldn't stand the way all my listings were looking, so I went through and did what I could to make them look good. Out of 11 current auctions, 3 of them still have the Auctiva window and 2 of those were posted after I corrected the problem I had in my shipping profile here. One auction I couldn't fix, even after removing the window completely. Don't know why?!?

At least I have a better understanding of the way that Auctiva works now and should have an easier time making listings.

I'm sure this doesn't help much but I wanted you to know I didn't see it either Wink

Yes, I know how to get the code but the Store Window code that needs to be removed won't show up on this way, it will only be ther after it makes it way to ebay.

All you will see is the [STORE_WINDOW] tag not the actual HTML or in this case Java for it. That gets inserted where the tag is as its sent to ebay.

The tag tells auctiva to insert the code in that place when it goes to ebay Wink

I also wanted to let you know it looks fine on my screen, it will only look goofy on a smaller resolution. I woudn't worry so much about it, if you removed the tag [STORW_WINDOW] tag from your profile then this won't be an issue for the next set of auctions.

Hope this helps, I'm off to enjoy the day Smile
Sorry about that wahm922! I sure didn't mean to imply that you don't know what you are talking about!!!!! Big Grin I can see from your other postings that you know waaaayyyy more than I do about how Auctiva and eBay works!!!!

And thank you for reassuring me about my listings. Makes me feel much better! I'm actually not doing too bad, I've got 4 listings ending in about 30 minutes from now and 2 of them have bids. Then I have 2 more bids on other items ending in a few days. I'm beginning to learn how to do things and it's starting to pay off for me. I might actually have a shot at this if I just stick with it and don't give up when the going gets tough. Wink
