Hi - I have just started with Auctiva and having incredible difficulty uploading pictures, support told me how to enable Active X yesterday which I followed to the letter, and it still isn't working correctly. I use AOL, and have tried to upload pics both via Internet Explorer and AOL, and get as far as the upload section of the process, (it WILL NOT let me drap and drop, or upload whole files, I have to just upload individual pics - as a message comes up saying something about not exceeding some limit or other!!!!!) Once I click upload the window comes up with the bars as if uploading correctly, but then freezes and will not go further, if I click on stop, it comes up as programme not responding, and if I press 'end now', then it obviously looses IE connection, and the process has obviously failed. The ONLY way I can do it is through gaining access via AOL, the entire process is intentical and it freezes on the upload, and then on stop, and 'end now' it just crashes AOL, BUT at least it does seem to upload the pictures!!!!!! This cannot be right, it is driving me mad, I have loads of pics to load, and have spent several hours on this todate - please help!!!!!
Sorry this post is so long, but I though an accurate description was essential, I hope someone can help me, many thanks!

I personally have grown very fond of the Drag-and-Drop uploader. Since that's (IMO) the best for bulk uploads and you seem to need that capability, perhaps focusing on getting that one working is a good start.

Hmmmm...That problem suggests you didn't...

"First, hit the spacebar, the 'Enter' key, or click inside the box to activate the drag and drop controls "

....per instructions. If you don't do that, it won't allow a drop of selections in the box. I'm always forgettig to do that too. Smile

Before you grab a group to drag, move your cursor to the center of the box. It should turn into the image of a hand. When you left mouse-click to select, the cursor should revert to normal (like standard arrow cursor). If that works, it would at least suggest the active-x control is working. Now try to lasso the group of pictures you want to move and drag and drop them. You should get a list of your local file references for all of them. Then, it's just select UPLOAD button.

It's possible you might have an AOL setting that needs adjustment with their browser for compatibility. However, the method is specific to IE.

Hi there thank you for your quick reply! You are going to think me VERY thick, my computer skills are all self-taught, so I am not at all a computer buff, I do things by trial and error!
I have just checked and I have the hand control, in the draG and drop! BUT how do I bring up the pictures I want to 'catch'!!!!!?!! The only way I can see to get them up is using the select button, and by doing that - the hand disappears, sorry I said I am probably being really thick!
I suppose that is a start, but even if I can drag and drop do you think the freezing problem will disappear on the actual upload? MANY thanks for time and effort in advance!
Hi,

The drag-and-drop is done between two different windows. Bring up a window with the desktop Windows Explorer that has the file names or pictures you want to send. I keep mine in WinXP file Folders with "Thumbnail" views, so I can see literally see what I want to send. Then, select and drag each one (or all you want with multiple selection) and drop them in the IE Auctiva box using the instructions I previously posted (remember to "activate" the box first, per instructions).

Having two open windows on the same screen might be a little tight, but just size the Windows appropriate to your monitor.

Hello! If it makes you feel any better, I have trouble with the drag and drop tooSmile They drag but won't drop. I've tried everything and wasted a lot of time on it like you did. I finally just gave up on it and muddle my way through it. The program will only allow you to upload a limited amount of files at one time so if you have a lot of pics. you have to upload them in groups that stay under the limit. It is painfully slow and the one thing I don't like about Auctiva. I guess we have to put up with it until something different comes along.
Hi again, many thanks for all the tips, I have altered all my controls, and allowed ActiveX but it would not allow me to fully enable, only to prompt, as it says it is lowering my security levels!!
I have tried every which way now to load up the pics, and to be honest, I don't much care if I can drag and drop, or just select individual pics, as long as I get them into my picture files!! I am still finding it freezes on upload, it still doesn't seem to load correctly, when I have to stop the process and 'end now' I loose IE and have to restart! I am now finding if I wait a while the pictures seem to miraculously appear in my files!!!!! Like garyj, I am muddling along, and can only download a reasonably small amount of pics at one time too, BUT the rest of the Auctiva applications are so good, I have decided to persevere, but it is definately very frustrating!!! Thanks again for the advice, it's good to know I am not alone in my dilemma!!

Hi mrs! I'm so exited I think I'll have 2 desserts tomorrow! I read a post by someone called ninth wave and we have to resize our pictures before we upload them. That's what's taking so long!! When I was uploading, Auctiva was resizing them as they went. I tried it, now they load blistering fast! We'll be able to load a lot more at once too!! I haven't taken any pictures or done any listing tonight, but this has been a big accomplishment. Yippieeeeee
Hi Gary, well that's a great discovery, my question would be how simple is it to resize the pics!!!?! Did you experience the same thing - it seemed to be 'freezing' on the upload?
When you re-size the pictures does it give options, and which would you recommend. Thank goodness you solved your problem, it sounds exactly right, they maybe are too large to send quickly. I would be grateful if you have any more tips on resizing, I will def have a go, as I explained - my computer skills are self taught and when I get problems like this, I have such difficulties with resolving them - no sons at home now to bail me out!!!
So pleased your zipping though your uploads!!! Have a great Easter, and thanks for the tip! Best, Linda
Hi Linda. I am using a photo editor to resize the pictures. The one I am using is corel but I suppose they all do the same thing.I resizt them to under 900 pixles. About the freeze, whenever I have a freeze problem, support always tells me to delete the temp. internet files and the cookies. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I'm self taught too as you can probably tell, but I'm a stubborn yankeeSmile Happy Easter to you too and God Bless......Gary
Hi again Gary, thanks for the tip, 900 it is then! I haven't tried to upload any more pics for a couple of days, I will def try that route, obviously this is one tip that has been overlooked when explaining the uploading process by Auctiva, I wonder how many other people are out there experiencing the same problems!
It's amazing how long it took to actually upload the pictures, I'd try and do it once, it would freeze, I'd go and look to see whether they were there, and they weren't - so I'd do it again, sometimes 3 times, then after an hour or so, I would go to do something else, and hey presto 3 sets of the same pics were there - and I could never work out why!!!!!! Actually, although they were not supposed to work by putting them in by IE, I think they also downloaded via my AOL link, which in desperation I had also tried, with obviously the same results!!
Anyway, thank you for the tips, also to decklington, doubtless I'll be back again with another problem soon - hope to 'see' you again, Happy Easter to you, very best wishes, Linda
