I've been dutifully studying to overcome my learning curve before I debut as an eBay seller.
I chose Auctiva to be my listing service, because as a buyer, I noticed that the carousel window always got MY attention. I set-up my eBay account, along with a PayPal account back in 2004, though this will be my first time as a seller. I've read through several of your posts here in the community, and I have a couple of questions that I've not seen addressed.

1) Since I will be going through Auctiva to post my listing, how will I set-up my "seller's account" on eBay? I have not been able to figure out how to get there on eBay, without first having to use a sellers form there.

I've put a great deal of effort into setting up my profiles here on Auctiva, and do not want to reinvent the wheel on an eBay listing form. Can anyone answer this for me?

Auctiva did obtain a token when I signed up, but I had never sold anything on eBay.

2) I noted another post that said that Auctiva does not provide combined invoices, as yet, so how will this affect buyers of multiple items?
I intend to utilize calculated shipping, in conjunction with combined shipping. Does this mean I will have to manually credit the buyers for the combined shipping? Won't winning bidders automatically be told to pay, through eBay messages. Or does Auctiva generate those messages?

3) Does anyone know if the calculated shipping costs, with the USPS increase, will be automatically updated? And I still don't know who is notifying the bidder of the shipping charges. Is this through the Auctiva checkout? Through eBay, or PayPal?

Those are the issues that I am presently stuck on...any insights from the community would be appreciated.

Also, for the staffers at Auctiva...
I informed my eBay mentor of Auctiva, and now she is a member herself. She is a certified eBay educator, and did not know that Auctiva had all those free photo hosting services available. It felt good to be able to teach HER something for once.

Hello and welcome - while I'm still trying to get my "footing" on the whole "ebay experience" I can help on a couple of items - Auctiva has already updated their shipping for the new rates that go into effect on May 14. This was done a week or so ago.

The other thing I'm aware of is the check out - seems to me that there is a drop down menu that you can check or fill in that give you a choice of ebay sending the invoice or Auctiva. I notice that some of my buyers actually check ou thru Auctiva.

As far as setting up your account on ebay - I'm not sure but if you're already set up on ebay (weither you've sold or not) it should work.

Hopefully, that will help you get started and answer a few of your questions.

I've found that this board has lots of great information.

Best of luck - Dawn a/k/a msalien1

Hi Lilly,

Welcome to Auctiva!

You can NOT sell on ebay until you register as a seller. It is a simple process consisting of updating your existing ebay account with credit/debit card or checking account info. This information is required so that ebay knows how you will pay the fees for your listings. Use the following link. It explains the basic info and at the bottom of section 2 gives you the link to "become a seller".

Creating a Seller's Account

Once you update your account you are ready to start creating and scheduling/posting your listings on ebay through Auctiva.

Hope this helps and Good Luck Selling!

Thanks for the responses...shortly after I posted last night, I was looking in my spam folder for a lost message, and noticed that the notice on the shipping issues from Auctiva was in that folder. The update seemed to answer those questions. Terence, I did finally manage to set up my sellers account, I went ahead and logged in "as if" I was going to list, but then did not proceed to listing, once the sellers account was set-up.

Another question that has occurred...I noticed one of the posts from an Auctiva staffer mentioned that having a "store" was a default service by using Auctiva. Does this mean that we CAN have static inventory with long-term listings, without having to subscribe to an eBay store? This was an issue with another new member, because she did not like the "default" text in the window which states, "the seller presently has no items in the store." Being that I expect some of the traffic to my web link will come from "cross-promotion" I too would like to have the store window populated with static inventory, even between "auction" listings. Is this feasible on our Auctiva service, without paying the subscription rate for a store through eBay?

I've only input a couple of sample "saved" auction listings, to get an opportinuty to preview, while tweaking my profiles.

Some of my inventory items I may want to include as "buy it now" items. Particularly as an incentive for persons looking to take advantage of the combined shipping...

As in...You are bidding on the cool purse, but could use a hairband too...or a handcrafted gift card, because the purse is a gift.
I'm not going to put "cards" on auction listings... However, I would like a commerce site for the "fans" of those cards to be able to purchase them outright--when stock is available. I shelved my wholesale card business, as the retailer was taking all the profits from my labors. And the idea of working 14 hour days doing production work, did not appeal to me...particulary if my labor was being compensated at less than a chinamans salary. If I am to include them in my inventory, they will be "limited edition" art cards...and priced accordingly. They retailed at upwards of $7 per card.

Anyway...I appreciate the guidance.
Hi Lilly,

Unfortunately you are not going to be able to do this.

Your Auctiva store is simply a collection of all of your active ebay listings. It will contain all of your auction and fixed price listings and if you have an ebay store all of your store inventory. If it is not an active listing on ebay it can not show in the Auctiva store. The Auctiva store imports your newly active listings directly from ebay and updates current active listings, I believe, about every 6 hours. That being said, if you have no active listings your Auctiva store will be empty .

The Auctiva store is a great free bonus to those sellers who don't have an ebay store and a nice extra for those that do. For sellers without an ebay store it is a nice showcase that you can direct buyers to from your listings instead of sending them to a regular ebay listings page.

How many items would you like to have in the store at one time? A Basic ebay Store may be what you need. Check out this link:

Thanks again for the feedback Terence...I suspected that idea would be too good to be true. Thank you for clarifying. I did not realize that the minimal monthly fee had been raised to $15.95 for an eBay store either.

This is obviously a decision I will wait to make until I see how my auction sales go.
I'm not entirely sure in which direction yet my eBay business will evolve into... I have a number of ideas brewing...but for now, I am just focusing on sharing my skills at treasure hunting...since I often pass up good finds, only because they are not suitable for me personally. I suspect there must be hundreds, if not thousands of women who would appreciate the products that I find...and the value I would be able to pass on to them. At least in theory anyway. This is where risk at start-up comes into play...testing ones theories in the marketplace.

Thank you so much for clearing up any misconceptions on the Auctiva storefront. I suppose utilizing fixed price items, will suffice in the interim, while deciding whether or not to commit to an eBay store.

Sincerely,
Lilly
