Im tickled pink...That game I had up for auction went for higher than anyone has ever gotten for the same game...I know it was because of Auctiva and the wonderful templates and store windows that did it. Mine wasnt even as nice as others before mine..Thank you Auctiva..I know my happiness of having highest bid to date wont last long..because now that Ive gotten that much for it others will get as much...but im happy for now and thats good enough. The bid almost doubled in last 4 seconds...I almost fell outta my chair. Again, Thanks auctiva...you are my auction gods! and I am not worthy! Smile

Yep! Congratulations are in order.

There is a HUGE market for Vintage Board Games
http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofo...150.00&so=Show+Items

You're gonna need to be signed in to go to the above link as it's showing CLOSED auctions.

Somebody wanna find me a Mystery Date Game..Not to sell, but to keep. Even though it would be tough going for me to NOT sell the dadgum money maker. Ohhhhhhhhhhh, I'd love to have that game though and play it with my daughter! Sweet memories of my younger years!

Anyhooooo, Above find the link for completed vintage board games on eBay.

There have been games I've picked up in thrift shops and yard sales for as little as a dime and turned around and sold them for nice buckeroo's.

The games I sold sometimes didn't even have to be complete either or new!

I found all of these boards games from like the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's about a year ago. They wanted like, $10 and $15 each (thirft store). Some were really funky cool. Like an ESP game and a Wall Street stock game. Anyway, I started to get them all but felt uncomfortable spending over $100 on inventory I wasn't sure would sell or not.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I blew it!

Okay, I went and started to look up some of those games I passed by.

This looks like one.

Acquire

Maybe I didn't blow it afterall. I'm going to look into this market. I already have another selling ID that will work, (actually, psssssssssst, I have several, wink). A good thread, thanks.

A big 'duh' here, I forgot to say, congrats! Smile

Magie,

Acquire and those types by 3m are bookshelf games and do REAL well. Just do a search under board games with the word bookshelf. You'll note that Avalon is a big seller to look for.

I've yet to fail with Murder Mystery Party Games. Heres one if you've never seen them. I sold this one six months ago and got about the same amount as they did.

Here's a game that I resold..

I picked the below game up on a whim. I had NO idea there would be a huge bidding war. What I didn't know is that this game is one of the few games thats touted by therapists for playing with autistic children.

Once again, you'll have to be signed in as those are links to CLOSED auctions.

My Goodwill sells ALL games, puzzles, etc for 1.00. Not a bad turnaround on my investment. It's best if you can have someone at home looking up items for resell while you're there. It's time consuming making sure all the pieces are there..But trust me, incomplete games sell real well, too.

These types of items aren't seasonal. There are collectors out there that will pay good prices year round.

Just a bit a knowledge out of my gray matter. Sometimes great items are in the least expected places.

My Best,
Donna
Thanks everyone for the compliments.. The guy(his name is clarence) that lost to the high bidder on this game emailed me shortly after the auction ended and told me that my game was going to be his last one that he bought before he closed shop. He said he was in the business of buying and selling games and that he was retiring. He emailed me alot through email during the auction about the game and other stuff...he was the one that ask me if I was bidding against him.

Anyway, he lives in lubbuck texas not to far from me, he said. He then went on to tell me that I was very nice to him during the auction and he appreciated all the help I gave him etc. He then told me that he has 12 of these pollyanna games dating back to 1916...and that he was going to keep one of them as a momento from the business and wanted to know if I wanted to buy the rest of them.

He seems like a really nice sincere guy...but I am so sceptical of people these days...I am going to email him and ask him what he wants for the 11 games and if he has some pics...I only do this part time so I wont be able to afford to pay too much for his games....I would really like to know what you think of this little offer...do you think its legit? The only thing that makes me think he is telling the truth about just wanting to win one last pollyanna game before he retired is that he was hell bent on winning this auction before I even knew anything about him retiring and stuff. I would really like to know what you guys think about this....thanks everyone for the compliments.

I don't know William..something just doesn't feel right about this.

If you have his full name, Google him. Check his feedback and see what other items he's been buying. If he's been buying scads of other games then this is what he does..buys them for resell for profit. Plus, this guy might have a website that he resells games from and those make a pretty penny, too.

I can't quite put my finger on what doesn't sit right with me..but it smells to me like yesterday's dirty diaper.

My Best,
Donna
LOLOL..yesterdays dirty diaper...lol I like that. Freaky baby avatar says yea!!!!!

Yes I have his email, ph# and all...I will give him a run down...he said hes in a wheelchair and thinks the almighty will be taking him soon..I cant tell if this guy is just heart broken or a nut. Im real bad about giving people the benifit of a doubt ,,,when I really shouldnt..I have stepped in the pile many times because of it....lol.
Could be legit, but I always get more skeptical when there's a boo-hoo story in the mix. Scammers and con artists love to play the boo-hoo story. (and if he's not legit, and is simply trying to sell you some of his crap, then he's a con arist in my book simply because of the lie)

There's a lady in a town near here that routinely asks on freecycle for vintage jewelry. I forget her exact story, but it's something like 'needing a gift' or some such thing. Anyway, what she really does is sell it in her shop. Uses a story to get people to giver her inventory. Again, a con artist in my book. (but not a real good one cause I dont even know her and I spotted the con right away, and later verified it with another ebayer that goes to that township fairly often and knew her shop)
wow - how cool is this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1965-Lost-In-Space-Game-Mil...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

okay, i admit it, i'm a geek - laf!

Lost in Space theme music is my ringtone - laf!
Used to always watch the show as a kid, always liked the music, and felt that the tune was pretty appropriate since I often find myself in a little world all my own and I lost the roadmap a long time ago Smile

Man I used to love that show when I was a kid...lol Warning! Will Robinson! Warning!...lolol Im a geek to I guess.

Heres all I could find on ole clarence...He made a donation to the republican congressional committee at one time...and according to public records he lives in lubbock Tx and is 77 yrs old...wow! he may be on the up and up after all. I am waiting to hear from him. He said in one of his emails that he hopes god will let him play his pollyanna game in heaven..Man this guy is breakin my heart...he seems so nice too...man Im a sucker and i know it!

You know I should clarify something here. He didnt actually say he was in the business come to think of it..what he actually said was its hard to buy these games on ebay and make a profit...which naturally made me assume he was a reseller...He could have just been making idle chatter..and his chatter is all over the place so who knows what he actually meant. I better get outta this potential game deal while I still have my shirt...lolol
LOL I guess I will find out when he emails me back...I ask him in my email, what he wanted for all the rest of them.

I have a whole bunch of old games here..but most of them are not sellable yet..I usually hold onto games and just keep checking on them from time to time for when they start selling well. Heres a few I have sold that seem to always sell so check your closets..lol

Gnip-Gnop, Pass the Pigs, Hands Down, poppin hoppies, Tip It, Stay alive, roll-a-par, scooby doo cyber chase game, six million dollar man, (Pet Rock - These are sellable with an imaginary story of mystical powers presented with it. Please indicate it is parody though there are nuts out there that will believe its true..lol),scrabble bally game, scrabble handheld game, Old viewmaster reels especially sets. Here is a very mellow example of the pet rock parody I wa talking about:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PET-ROCK-Original-box-bedding-manua...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

When I sold mine..I had my rock showing me visions of the white house all the way back when regan was president..lol. I might add that my long story about the white house visions drove people to the listing and I sold mine for 40+ I believe it was...crazy I know!

Congrats on the good sale!

Donna, we have a great vintage game and toy place in Cleveland (right down the street from our Mongolian BBQ!) called Big Fun http://www.coventryvillage.org/shops/bigfun/BigFun.html
If you really want the game, you might give them a call and see if they have it or might be able to get it. But these are priced to sell to nostalgic folks, not to resell at a profit.

They have so many toys that I had as a kid and I wonder if my old My Little Pony toys, etc. would go for that much! We held onto those for so long, but mom might have finally given them away. Either that or packed them up for future grandchildren to play with... in which case, sorry future kids, momma will buy you new ponies because her vintage ones are worth something Big Grin

Top of the Mornin Starry,

Oh I'd love going in that store..imagine right down from a Mongolian Grill, too. <smile>

I can find the game on eBay and online, but I just don't want to pay the prices that they're going for. I'll have to give this place a call and hope they have it for at least half of what it sells for online.

I still have a rubbermaid container filled with My Little Pony/Polly Pockets and such. They're up in the attic and marked Hannah for when she's older and wants them back. Beside that sits another container filled with Barbie's. And another filled with Batman and so on and and so on.

The biggest thing I've packed away for eventual grandchildren are books. I kept so many of the children's books to share. I think that'll make it more special telling my grandchildren that I used to read this book to your mother/father.

That's years away though. (hopefully 5 or 6)

Hope all finds you well. I know you're happy to be back home away from the warm and humid Florida atmosphere.
<smile>

Take care,
Donna
