Re: anyone else having problems with Auctiva website?

BTW - if you know anything about HTML, check out your listing's HTML code - I just love how Auctiva's editor produces utter gibberish like this: (see below) For those that don't know - it's just insane to be producing code that recursively changes sizes and fonts 7...8...10 times in a row in a single block of text. I once estimated that Auctiva had added 45,000 extra completely useless characters of code to one of my listings (recursive code where only one font/character size actually...

I am new to HTML and just learning to make my own templates. I use free tools TagBot and RagTag from ShipScript at isdntek dot com to play with their sample templates and look at the code to understand. I noticed that there was a lot of on and off font pairs in code I viewed. I looked at some generated Auctiva code and saw things that made no sense too. But I also saw that if I don't make up my mind on the selecting a font when designing in an editor and try different sizes, it will turn on...

I understand that HTML is evolving and getting more enhancements and more structure and stricter rules. But at the same time it has a need to support older standards and faze them out (deprecated is the term, correct?). What really bothered me was eBay SYI changing correct code options of valign=middle to the incorrect code valign=center. At W3schools, it does not say that the incorrect code was ever correct or deprecated. Then the correct align=center is changed to the incorrect...

Re: Listing Problems Beginning on Tuesday, April 21

The new editor seems to prefer CSS inline style over font tags for it's own code creation. That's not really any surprise, as most of the modern up-to-date editors tend to avoid obsolete (termed depreciated) code. I would have to see code examples to run any checks or speculate on why it's dropping fonts and sizes, other than if those were originated from incompatible sources, like Office/Word. Posting examples is always the best method to get assistance, and to get Auctiva's attention, i.e.

Hi, drag and drop? That might be the problem. You add photos in the one-page listing editor by clicking on the "Select an Image" in the Image Selection section, or you can use the Insert an Auctiva Hosted Image icon in the description editor to add single images within that section (placed as you want). dragging and dropping possiblly caused the editor to throw-out the existing code with the dropped picture (as an unaccepted function). That's a guess, as I've never tried that, but know it...

Word uses a markup language code that's not compatible with HTML (HyperText Markup Language) code. That's why HTML pages created by copy and paste of Word documents often won't display correctly (especially with other than the IE browser) and can corrupt the page. That's why that paste button is there, to cleanup the bad Word code (and I don't mean offensive language). Hi, Use a text editor, like Notepad, to create the text and copy - paste the text to the description editor, then add the formatting. You could also use a good HTML/CSS desktop editor to create the code for copy - paste using the editor in HTML mode. However, the new editor is somewhat picky about standards compliance. I'm still experimenting with that later option to see if its got limitations. For the moment, I'd follow Auctiva's latest recommendation (actually not new) and use Notepad or...

Hi, Try this.... The Auctiva Hosted Images button inserts code to display the original (full size) image. Switch the editor to HTML mode and locate the URL that it inserts, and you'll see the file name in the URL ends with _o.jpg where the "o" is the original. Change that "o" to "tp" and it will switch the link to the 400 x 300 stored image, e.g. _tp.jpg That will provide same standard size images as the Auctiva usual view methods with the 1 - 24 images, and keep the look the same for all. Hi Robert, In answer to question #1, Auctiva is a separate system from eBay's, so making a change at Auctiva on a Saved Listing doesn't directly change the active listing on eBay. Well, because the banner has a white-white #ffffff background and the other backgrounds were a slightly yellowed white, I opted to put the banner inside the main border and give it its own 1px black border. That seems to give it boundaries and good look with the rest of the template. Hope that's OK? I also placed a 2px border around the pictures in the same red as the hair and font.
