Hi, B= buyer S= seller As a B, I don't plan to purchase from eBay anymore except as a last option. On eBay discussion boards, other B's are now boycotting eBay! But it's S's who are most irrate. and Ebay has been removing complaining postings at an ever rapid rate! I'm not against having a star rating system but... As an S, the star system is detrimental for at least 5 reasons: 1) it is arbitrary depending on the mood of the B (e.g. seller A sends "same day" gets 5 stars, seller B "sends two...

Here is a link to Amazons Pro Merchant info page. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161308 I believe the only way to really add your own new items is to be a Pro Merchant. I think you maybe able to add items through zauctions on Amazon but I dont think anybody really uses that.

You both are incorrect. Go to anyones pro shop that is selling perfume. Look in the far right hand corner. Look for a set of words that say "have one like this to sell". Click on it. You immediately are taken to page to acually start the process of making a competive listing. "But wait" You better go ahead and sign up as a seller and give amazon all the stuff like your bank, login name, password, etc. Once done, go back to the perfume sellers page, and make a listing. If there listing that...

I tried to figure out Amazon out but I couldn't figure out how to list an item that they didn't already have listed to "add" my listing too. There fore to creat a unique item seemed to take an act of congress or shall i say someone perhaps with a more comfortable computer chair and a bit more patience. Sue

The wife and I tried to set up our Amazon store last night. We figured it might be worth it to pay $20/month for two months (for the Pro Merchant subscription) to be able to list some of our stuff there. Worth a shot, at least. Turns out, some categories are restricted from listing unless you are "pre-approved" by Amazon. Makes it kind of useless for us, as two of the restricted categories are "Beauty" and "Health and personal care", and quite a bit of our stuff would go in those categories.

Sorry all of you are having troubles. I have had as many as 96 items listed on amazon as alternate items to what others are paying to have a pro merchant account. I get to do all mine free. No cost, NADA. I only pay a fee when something sells and the listing is up for 60 days at a time. I have been particularly pleased with the sale rate. Puts my ecrater account in the dust, but is not as good as I still do on ebay. My websites way outproduce ebay. Ebay is flexible though. You can sell...

Those that I know that are selling on Amazon are doing great...highly successful. What you need to strive for is to not be just a regular seller...but to move up the ladder to featured merchant and higher. Those sellers receive more perks...your own rep who calls and moves you further along faster with Amazon. The good thing about Amazon is search engine placement. VERY HIGH! The store cost isn't that outrageous to try a month or two. Good Luck, Donna

Sooo.... it turns out getting access to the restricted categories isn't so hard after all. Just contacted Amazon, and although it took a rep almost a month to get back to us, she gave us access to some of the restricted categories. Hopefully, it works out well. We already made a sale literally within an hour of our first listing being posted

Amazon is VERY customer service focused. It may take them awhile to get back to you, but when they do...Amazon will do their best to help you to sell on their site. footnote to Daddyo: Sorry bout the slump...it hits us all from time to time.

Amazon is not like ebay...I feel it's good for both parties. More perks for buyers equals more multi-item purchases, Return buyers, etc. I know if I'm shopping for example a book...I will try to get a few books at the same time. Best of Luck, Donna

Hi astcall4vintage writing listings as a way to learn HTML can be rather expensive, on the other hand if just want to sell items get to grips with standard templates first and get a book on HTML from Amazon in the meantime. Big flashy DIY HTML listings are of debateable value in my book, first you need to get buyers to your listing, then provide them with good clear pictures, text, returns policy etc in a frendly unambiguous way. Then back that up with good packing comms and fast turn...

eBay has a bulk loading ability that is an add on service. As noted you still have to deal with image URL's and the works. Amazon I wouldnt recommend any place sell at. The company simply does not care about anything you care to sell. They get their money. If a buyer makes a claim against you virtually no matter what it is they will take the money away from you whether or not the product was delivered works or does not. They will instantly axe your account and in the case of many (many) keep...

Amazon and Yahoo used to be very good but not anymore. I especially like Amazon, easy to use and reasonable fees but somehow they decided not to focus their resources there and lost the momentum. There is no competition for ebay right now that's why they can do whatever they want. I wish Google will take them on. Google is coming out with an online payment system that will compete with paypal. I hope auction site is next in their radar.

I sold a couple of books on Amazon, but my advice is don't do it for profit, their costs are huge (even compared with PayPal). They charge the buyer a standard postage cost (from which they also deduct a %) which did not even cover my actual cost even though I used the original Amazon packaging.

I am in the UK so as with everything else there are differences, there is some sort of monthly deal ( think at about £29 which roughly equates), but to be honest all I was doing was re-selling a couple of books that I had bought from Amazon that I thought were really good and deserved to be read by others rather than just sit on my shelves. Have to admit the books on Amazon went really quickly but then I was offering them at about 15/20% of Retail so I guessed they would. If I put them...

Amazon does offer a monthly package, or you can just sell on an individual book basis and pay higher commissions. What is best for any one seller will depend on their volume. Based on my selling experience there, the 'suggested price' that Amazon gives you during the listing process is a joke. If you plan on listing a book there, list it at a price that will make sure it shows up in one of the first few pages of listings, preferably the first. ~Lisa

I agree completely. I fell for the same thing. I was thinking wow what a great sale for moving things out of store and into auction. Non of the auctions sold and again the only winner was eBay. I wonder how many times they are going to stick it to sellers before sellers start taking their business elsewhere? Yahoo, Amazon, personal websites, ect.... They wrap all their investments in the buyer and pay no attention to the fact that without sellers there aren't any buyers.

If delivery confirmation shows "delivered", you are covered under seller protection (for transactions less than $250), whether the buyer says they received it or not... as long as you meet all the other criteria for seller protection. As the seller, it is generally recommended that you file the insurance claim yourself, not your buyer. [quoteI put insurance as an option on my...

Hi mar30. Welcome back! Since you've had a 2 year break from Ebay, you may not know this...Ebay offers NO buyer protection anymore at all. Only PP does. I used to think nothing of sending a $100 money order to a seller, but not anymore. If the seller didn't want to send my item I'd be up the creek now Alot of folks, including myself will ONLY pay with Paypal now. As long as what you sell isn't going for hundreds of dollars, I wouldn't even worry about chargebacks etc. And even in the event...

If your books are very common, Amazon is probably the way to go. If they are unique or would generate interest by having pictures, go with eBay. I've sold books for $20 on eBay that were one cent on Amazon. It does take more time to list on eBay. I think its good to accept PayPal. If you offer combined shipping discounts, require the buyer to ask for combined invoice BEFORE paying PayPal and it will save on the PayPal fees. booklady

IMHO you will get a 20 to 50% higher net using Aamzon over eBay. And listing is easer, just put in the ISBN and $. The bad thing is tha Amazon charges an Arm & Leg for shipping but only gives you the fingers.

Hi Ravenov, Petitions have been done before and they never work. The ONLY thing that would work is if every single seller left and that ain't gonna happen. Gotta hit Ebay where they'll feel it, in the pocketbook. No sellers = no buyers = bye bye Ebay. Won't happen. Although I do know many long time sellers who have pulled all their auctions & inventory and moved it over to places like Amazon, Ioffer, etc. But they'll probably be back...sigh..it's really sad

Well, I'll say this: the amount of attention this is getting from media and such is pretty impressive so far. Honestly, I pick my battles, and this change just isn't going to affect me as much as some other sellers. I just don't list enough there for it to make much of a difference, and while I think the feedback change thing is just silly, I don't think it will affect me much either. eBay is putting a pine-scented air freshener on a turd, basically. They're trying to BE Amazon, but the two...

Jeff. Fees and increases are a fact of life and as you can see from my profile etc that in fact for most of my current items in the UK the fees rise will not affect me much if at all. (For other readers the fee changes are structured different in the UK to USA AND we still have to pay for gallery). But for higher value items which I will be listing again shortly yes they do bother me to the tune of an extra 70p per item listed at 99p and even selling for only £29.99, and even more to the...

I'm looking for nitches for new items for the collector markets, so experimentation is always fun. It's the response to something different that makes it worth the effort.
